Did you even watch the movies?... Seriously.
Meh, just a "Getting it off my chest" moment. Maybe I'll post something funny later to balance this ranting out :p

Now questions like:
"Why couldn't Anakin jump further over Obi-Wan?"

"Why do buzzdroids go thru shielding?"

"Why did the Super Star Destroyer crash into the Death Star II once the bridge was blown up? Wouldn't it just float there, or have a secondary bridge take over?"

I don't mind those questions. They aren't expressly answered in the film.

Stuff like this however...
________________________________________________________________________
"in the few hours it takes for Han n Leia to make it to Hoth to Cloud city via Asteroid fields. Luke is trained by Yoda and get to Bespin to rescue them!"
(Taken from the "Plot Holes" blog here)

Annoy me ;)

The Falcon's Hyperdrive being broken was a pretty big plot point in the film. They can't lightspeed away from the Star Destroyers because it's broken, so they head into the asteroid field to evade them. Then they have to set course for Bespin because it's a "close port" for repairs on the Hyperdrive which was broken, did I mention that?

The Hyperdrive being broken was the whole reason they went to Cloud City it was close enough they could reach it at Sublight speeds in a month or so (time given in the novel supposedly) otherwise it would have taken them years to reach somewhere! Who honestly could fork over $40 to be a Hyperspace member, and NOT know that "Hyperdrive = Fast, Sublight = Slow"?

There are some other things that pop up like this of course, but this one topic shows up again and again and again.

As a side note, the Falcon taking a month to reach Cloud City makes everything work better. It gives Boba Fett time to figure out exactly what course they have set, return to Vader's Star Destroyer, convince him he knows where the Falcon is heading then have the Imperial fleet "Arrive just before you did". It also gives time for Yoda to train Luke and most importantly (in my mind) gives time for Han and Leia to fall in love. (A month cramped up on a ship together...)

By all means keep blogging! Blog about all topics of the rainbow, but please, watch the movies and pay attention to what non-Jedi are talking about.

Note: Any misunderstanding of Hyperdrive, Sublight speeds, or why Super Star Destroyers crash when the main bridge blows up is entirely my fault and I should be berated for it, thank you. :D

Thank you for this, Rive. I haven't been here but 2 weeks and these questions already have me banging my head on the keyboard. As for the Han/Leia loveship, they probably would have killed each other, I mean, a month is an awfully long time to spend with Chewy, especially with no shower......;)

Very good points, totally agree with your description of the time frame of Empire. And of course, like you say, it gives everyone time to prepare for the end of the film, where people's actions and reactions don't necessarily match up to their skills and attitudes at the start.
I always felt that the first half of Empire was close to Star Wars and the second closer to Jedi. That may seem bleedin' obvious, but your expalantion bears this belief out.

I would argue that the fact that luke spends only a matter of days training is exactly what is the big deal in ESB. He rushes to face Vader. His training is no where near complete and he thus loses in battle against Vader and finds out the truth about his father. Good thoughts though.

Careful swfan, you're right and that's about what I was going to say. Try to be more respectful though :)

Ignoring the EU even 1 month indeed seems far too short a time to train up to the point to be ready to face the "Destroyer of the Jedi", it also makes more sense in my mind for Yoda to send Luke into the cave test if he'd been training for some time.

JediMaster is correct though that each day you reduce the length Luke's training makes him seem a bit more impatient and unready.

A couple of points here. First for those of you who are interested I have written a blog on the subject of how much time was passed during Vader's chase of the Millennium Falcon. http://blogs.starwars.com/Jediracer/1 If you've got any comments on that I'd appreciate hearing you!

Point the second: I actually have a pretty decent explanation for the Executor crashing into the DSII...I think. You figure that something the size of a small moon--actually i believe this one is twice the size of a small moon--must have a pretty significant gravitational pull. When the bridge went up, quite possibly the primary method of controlling the ship's movements was vaped. Another possibility is that its antigrav controls or something were destroyed. Once control was lost, the SD was drawn in by the Death Star's gravity, which might be greater than expected because of its powerful energy core.

To jedimaster: consider that the old jedi took DECADES to train, from infancy to as much as 25 years old. Even if Luke had been on Dagobah for YEAR--which, in my opinion, really isn't all that impossible, when you consider how far things are apart at sublight speeds--he still would not have had anywhere near as much tutelage as the Jedi Yoda was used to training. Even at five years it could still be considered rushing, by comparison.

can i just say, im a huge fan. (obviously, im a HS member) and i have see Empire so many times. BUT i must admit i always wondered why it seemed like only days at the maximum. the about a month theory (or is it fact, you tell me) makes so much more sense. now i feel like an idiot. why didnt i think of that. Ive only seen Empire like a gazillion times. Dork to me.
