Star Wars: The TV Show: Episode VII
Don't know what the Star Wars
TV Series is?

Check out my ongoing
Star Wars TV Show Guide.

Ok so it's pretty doubtless that the upcoming Star Wars TV Show will be canon. Even moreso than the novels and such due to the scope involved in making it and the number of people who will see it.

The problem here is that since it's set between Episode III and IV whoever our heroes end up being can't really do much about the Empire, they're supposed to remain unchallenged until Episode IV.

We can't really have the Rebels, since they stay completely in the shadows until just before Episode IV.

So what does that leave? Well as people have suspected, people who don't get along with the Empire... At all, but aren't actively attacking it as the Rebels will do in the future. People just living under imperial rule as they adventure through the galaxy in their ship (Hopefully not a Millinium Falcon clone, but something that keeps the same spirit like the Ebon Hawk in KOTOR: See blog image).

So who best fits this? Smugglers and Jedi (come on, do you honestly suspect them to try to do live-action Star Wars without lightsabers?) We get constant allusions to Han's smuggling life in the Original Trilogy but we never really see him do any of it. Mostly because it wasn't needed for the films.

Now we have 100 hours of screentime to fill though, there's plenty of time for some smuggling, mercenary style adventures led by characters not in the films but well known in Expanded Universe, Talon Karrde and the like. Say a crew of 5 smugglers or so? Enough to have some interesting character relationships and development. Star Wars consistantly has (If I had put this in the title it'd be on the popular blog page in about 10 seconds I bet :p ) hot women. So 1 or 2 of our crew would probably be women or perhaps one of the Jedi.

Indeed like I said, we'd still need the Jedi even if they're supposed to be mostly in hiding. I figure at this point in time a Jedi might be worried about staying in one place to long, so we'd have 1 or 2 that join up with our mercenaries. Think of the possilities there, they'd act as a moral compass of sorts to balance out the pirates (Think about the brief relations we saw between Obi-Wan and Han Solo, endless possiblities), and for those who like that whole lightsaber thing it gives an opprotunity to see them in action when the situation calls for it.

The basic show would start off with our heroes on a job, or going to recieve a job from someone to smuggle, steal, or other various unwholesome activities not sanctioned by our glorious First Galactic Empire. With room for various deviations of course which I won't elaborate on because it could border on fanfiction (fafdiction if you prefer to follow the current trends :) ).

So it's not Boba Fett like current rumors suggest the show will center around, but do you think you'd watch something based around smugglers defying imperial regulations and doing jobs for Hutt crimelords and the like?

Note: It's a trap! :D

I think the ship should be the "Majestic Eagle" or something. Check out my blog: "Operation: Cannokly." It has some ideas!

I think the tv show will be considered cannon for sure! Lucas himself is writing the first season I believe, and as I understand it, he will personally oversee/approve all subsequent stories.

Anyhting not in the Films is considered EU and therefore not full canon.

As for what it will be about, I bet it will be the story of a young moisture farmer on the journey of a lifetime..........

I was reading a magazine, and it said that the TV show is supposed to be about Vader!

It's supposed to show us Vader adapting to the suit, and killing different jedi that survived order 66.

That's all I know for know.

2121...12...12... 1..... 2 :P : No it's not, I highly suggest you read my Star Wars TV Show Guide if you haven't. It won't be about a main character.

Eh, I'd watch anything Star Wars that doesn't say 'holiday special' ;). So I guess this loyal fan will be tuning in no matter what...:)

Nah, It's about offset characters from the films.

Being a huge Karrde fan, as you can see, I don't think I would like to see him portrayed by an actor. If the actor isn't good, he may ruin the character. I would love to see Mara Jade in the show, though.

I would love to see Mara too! I don't have TV up where I live (at the foot of the Sierra's) but will be getting it for the Star Wars TV series no matter the cost. The things I do for Star Wars! My internet connection is so slow I can get a cup of coffee while waiting for the screen to load. :_| I'm thinking there will be brushes with the main charactors though, maybe a cameo or two. (You'll see Vader's boot's as you just miss him as he enters a shuttle or something) I don't know! LOL but it's Star Wars.

Actually, most of the reference books like the Visual Dictionaries and Incredible Cross-Sections are accepted canon, although the movies still outrank them in arguments.

For the main characters in the show, Boba and Vader are meant to have infreqent cameos. Is it just me or does Rive's idea sound alot like Firefly ?:|

The smuggler idea does seem valid. Karrade would be nice, but wishful thinking in my opinion. I think, which George writing/overseeing the series it shouldn't be too bad, so long as they don't try and make the series keep going indefinetly. There's only so much that can happen between episodes III and IV. The only way around this I can see is if they did a season to tell one story, and changed the cast and time period for each subsequent season. Which would be extremely expensive. Ah well, I'll watch it, no matter what it is about, but I just hope it doesn't try and run beyond the point of good ideas (like, say, Farscape)

I don't care put in lots of action and swordfight! My society has already anaylsed all available lightsaber moves...We're hungry for more!
Plus if it isn't about main characters not many would be tuning in, i guess. The main characters are the ones that are interesting, dimensional personalities and pull in the ignorant society we live in...

That sounds a lot like Firefly to me.
