Star Wars: The TV Show: Episode X
Don't know what the Star Wars TV Series is? Check out my ongoing
Star Wars TV Show Guide.

Welcome to the tenth edition of my random thoughts on Star Wars TV :)

To our best knowledge, Star Wars TV is currently in pre-production. Scripts are being outlined and written, crew is being hired, and perhaps even concept art is being produced...

So what do we want to see?

Let's look at the past history of Hyperspace, specifically Episode III pre-production.

We had a webcam running pretty much constantly, it found its way into prop production, make-up, wardrobe, and even some filming (mostly non-important things, but some important sequences such as Padme's funeral).

We had a bit of concept art fed to us.

We had a multitude of 360 degree interactive viewers of sets (though many of them were 90% greenscreen :) )

We got to see the documentries weeks/months in advance.

We had some text and audiocast interviews. Often of press conferences.

We had photos of props, actors, and filming.

We had a set and production diary.

This isn't a movie though, it's a TV show.

By their nature Hyperspacers are Star Wars fans, we're gonna watch the show. Period. Normal member material will likely be restricted as it now, promotional material mostly. We want something deeper.

I'm sure we'll get plenty of stuff while the show is in pre-production. Exclusive photos of Commander Newguy and the Millenium Eagle. Interviews with Rick McCallum on how it fits into the grand scheme of things. Some 360 views of the primary sets. And some Hyperspace chats with McCallum and others.

But what about after that first opening crawl? What about when it starts airing?

For most TV series there are multiple episodes being filmed at once by different teams, so unless you want them in bursts, documentries and diaries are pretty much out the door. Concept art could be neat, but many episodes likely won't have new concepts requiring art at all. Photos could be neat, but by their nature most "new" things that would be unique the episode would be important to the plot and thus likely not released until after the episode is broadcast anyway. The things that we could get, deleted and uncompleted scenes for instance, will likely be saved to promote and sell DVD Season collections... Due to multiple episodes being in production at once, the webcam can't be everywhere...

So what will we be getting out of Hyperspace for the TV Series once it's out of pre-production? This could be an awesome source of material for Hyperspacers... Ongoing material... I just don't see how that material could be utilized though.
