I Didn't Make it to the FRONT PAGE!!!
Warning: The following is a rant. Didn't come here expecting a rant? Well it's too late. I already have your hit. You've already boosted me up a tiny notch on the popularity column and there's nothing you can do to reverse that! And you know what... I don't care. Which is the point of this entry.

Summary: I loathe 2 line blogs :D

Yesterday I wrote what I daresay is the definitive edition of what I personally like Star Wars to be. It took me awhile, but it was worth it. I finally got it out in words and was fairly sure people would understand what I meant if they bothered to read it all the way through... It made it to Page 4 or 5 of the "Popularity" pages.

Another user took what I assume to be 30 seconds or less of their time to post up something requesting user comments... That made it to the front page...

I left it alone, I moved on.

Then just a short time ago he posted another 30 second or less blog celebrating the fact that it had made it to the front page. As if he had accomplished something momentous.

Welp, that did it. It pushed me over the line again into a blog rant :p

I've been trying to avoid these and just let everyone continue about their business... And I still am. I'm not going to complain. I'm not going to tell people how to write their blog, I'm going to tell them how I write my blog.

Already bored? Already gone? Fine with me, that proves my point anyway. I don't write my blogs for you.

I write my blogs to get my thoughts down on paper... Digital paper anyway. I write them so that maybe, just maybe, somebody will read that thought line all the way through and get a little something out of it, a thought, an idea, and depending on the entry, maybe even a little enjoyment. :)

Does it feel good to be up there on the front page? Sure it does. If you're writing something publicly, chances are you want it to be seen.

But honestly. In it's current state. I celebrate the fact that I'm NOT up there. The blogs are usually short, pointless, and the "Read Comments" field is required reading if you want to get ANYTHING out of the page. But if you have a catchy title and post at the right time, you'll get up there. No matter what was actually inside. It's like buying something off a commercial that looked really cool on TV (A belt that makes me lose weight while I'm just sitting down watching TV?!)... And getting it... And it doesn't work... And they don't take refunds.

So you sit there with your vibrating "weight loss" belt that doesn't work... And the guy that made it sits up there on top of the world with your money.

Bah Humbug! I won't be sucked in. I'm not going to start putting "Whos the coolst Jedis or Siths?" to get up on the front page. I'm going to keep writing my blogs and keep hoping somebody out there is reading them and that people like DarthVicomte, Son of a Bith, Darth Rex0, jediknight2210, Darth Vader, Kenobi-fan, jkthunder, jkelly, Oboe-Wan, Master_Kenobi17, Z-score, JOHNNAGE_THE_BRAVE and Darthcharlie32 (I'm sure I've missed someone, but you can consider that the "Rive Caedo Reading and Writing Award") aren't going away and fading into the shadows. They're growing. Somehow someway more people are reading and writing thoughtful blogs instead of degrading into 4 line blogs.

I may never make it onto the front page again. But every time I see my inbox that someone has commented on one of my older blogs in my archives. Back in the 30's and 40's and 50's and such... I know that somebody out there is still reading my entries, months after I wrote them and getting something out of it...

And that's better than ever being on the front page for me.
