Personal Prequels
First I'd like to make a little shout out to my blog from yesterday.

http://blogs.starwars.com/rive/86

Simply because there would be a delicious irony in a blog called.......
"I Didn't Make it to the FRONT PAGE!!!"
... Being on the front page.

And now on with the show!

So I've been hitting on some topics that have been begging to be put into writing since I started writing these blogs oh... About 6 months ago now? Wow. I figured I'd keep that trend and do another.

Were you there in 1977? Actually even 1997 will work well enough. As long as you saw the entire Original Trilogy before setting eyes on even the teaser trailer for Episode I. What did you think the Prequels were like? There was always that "Episode IV" taunting you, you knew there was something before it. You knew there were Clone Wars, you knew that Obi-Wan and Anakin had done some fighting in it, you knew that something had driven Vader to the Dark Side, and you knew Luke and Leia had a mother who was "Kind but... Sad"... Along with some other details, but those were the big ones.

Now I could just leave it at that and ask for people to share what they thought the Prequels were like, what the stories behind the stories were and make you hit that "Read comments" button, but no, that's not a true Blog.... This concludes our mini-lesson review of yesterday :D

Mods (Moose I suspect), if this ventures too close to fan-fiction, you may fire... er... block, when ready. But these are very general ideas and there's already an official 6 hour version out there, so I don't think it does :)

Ok the big one. "You fought in the Clone Wars?"

Woah, Clone Wars? We don't see a single clone in the trilogy, what happened?! Maybe there were a few out there who always pictured the Clone Wars as a massive conflict encompassing the Galaxy Far Far Away... But not myself, I always figured they had started when Obi-Wan had been very young, and Anakin even younger. I figured it had been a series (Thus Clone Wars) of small uprisings by cloners (who were quickly outlawed and remained outlawed within the Empire, thus why we don't see any. There was a Clone Purge before the Jedi Purge, if you will) attempting to overthrow the peace and justice of the Jedi and friends. And friends of course referring to Leia's father...

Never in my wildest... Well perhaps in my wildest, but never in any normal dreams and fantasies did I think the clones would be the good guys... For a time.

Bail Organa

A Senator/Father? Well sure, now. But this guy served with the Jedi in the Wars against the evil Clone uprising! This must have been like Supreme Allied Galactic Commander Organa! Taken out of command by the henchmen of Palpatine and Vader for serving with the Jedi and forced back into a civilian life. Working secretly behind the scenes to strike against the Empire and retake the galaxy!

Ok... That one was close I suppose, but I never figured that Bail had always been a politician.

The Jedi

Strip away some of the CG effects and the Jedi are in the prequels largely what I figured they would be. They had to have some level of power and fight in the Clone Wars... Worked out fairly well. Although I figured they'd be more Yoda-like thinking upon the greater meanings of Life the Universe and Everything (The Force surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings we are!) rather than trying to rationalize the Force with Midiclorians (.... Not this crude matter).

Lord Vader.... Riiiiise!

Ok this one was basically just from the Return of the Jedi Novel and the earlier drafts of the script, so I can't take credit. But I always figured that Anakin had gone to the Dark Side very deliberately in a lust for power.

She was kind but sad...

And here's the only one where I had something pretty firmly set in my head and the Prequels completely went the other way. I always figured that their mother had also been a Jedi. After Anakin fell to the Dark Side (and Obi-Wan fried him up) she figured she was safe. She went about raising Luke and Leia (who were born a few months after Anakin "died") until the Empire rose up... With Vader at the forefront helping the Empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi. To protect her children she sent Obi-Wan off with Luke and took Leia herself (Lost the will to live? Yeah right!). I even had this particular aspect of the back-story so thought out that I had a very dramatic moment envisioned that the Imperial war machine finally reached Alderaan where Mother Skywalker had been hiding for the past 3 or 4 years (long enough for Leia to get some memories), she gave Leia over to Bail (Whom she and Obi-Wan had served with in those pesky Clone Wars) and waited. Finally Vader himself found her and, demonstrating how far he had fallen. Killed her with little hesitation.

Well there you have it, my personal imaginings of back stories to those little moments in the Original Trilogy, back when the only time "Jar Jar" would be heard is if someone stuttered when requesting materials to make a jelly sandwich and our smugglers always shot first. :p

What did you imagine about the days back when Obi-Wan and Anakin were cool and young back before the Dark Times... Before the Empire, in the Clone Wars?
