Hello hello hello (I decided to put one for all three of you that decided this was worth reading to the end) and welcome to another blog semi-rant.
I actually think the site as a whole has been vastly improving so this is probably the lightest weight rant I've done. It might not even be a rant. More a gentle suggestion.
And besides, I've been drawing a blank for topics to write about all week. Need somethin' up here new to ensure people I haven't died and am deserving of Rive Caedo brand divider lines to be posted in my honor.
Uh... if you want something directly Star Wars related I
threw this together... It's a motivational poster for those who think Star Wars TV would be just fine without a Jedi around every corner

Stop askin' and Start tellin': Don't Write for Comments
Apparently I've been counted among the non-VIP elite here because once every few weeks I recieve an E-Mail (via the "Contact Blogger" function) asking me a question along the lines of
"What kind of blogs should I write?" or
"How should I write my blogs"
My standard responce has been
"It's your blog, write about what you want to or you'll quickly grow tired of it. You also might want to keep in mind what you would want to read and try to write along those lines"
After reading
this blog and going to add a brief comment... I'd like to add an addendum to that for anyone who's recieved that and non-Hyperspacers who may become bloggers in the future. All other bloggers who haven't ever written a 2 line blog or asked why Mace Windu's saber is purple should probably move along. Nothin' to see here
Pretend your comments are off.
You don't need to actually turn them off, but while writing that's the real test to see if it's quality material I'd say. If the writing speaks for itself. If you're satisfied with knowing somebody might have read it even if you won't get direct feedback. And most importantly: That the comments won't be longer than your entry.
Ok Mr. Caedo, are you really one to talk anyway? You almost always end your entries with a question to commenters!
Sure I do. I don't personally think that's a bad thing to give people a general direction or "writing prompt" for their comments. Take away the last line or two on most my blogs though, which is generally the one giving a direction for comments to start off, isn't it still a complete thought? Doesn't it still inform, entertain, or get the reader thinking?
Is it any less complete without hitting the "Read or Post Comments" box?
I believe Dark Moose was the first to use the analogy and I've mentioned it before as well. Your blog is like a speech (or in the very least an announcement). The comments are either a literal comments field where people in the audience can submit thoughts on what they'd like to hear from you in future speeches, what the liked, and what they didn't like. It can also act as a question and answer or discussion session after the speech. "Wait, why did you say that?" "But why didn't you explain..." "But Mace Windu's saber had gold on it!" "I luv Anakin. He's so hot!

"
Ok... Maybe that last one was a bad example
In sum... Still write what you want to write about. But make sure you
have something to write about! Don't make others do the writing for you!
Can a blog be less than 750 characters (the limit for a comment)?
Yes.
Should it be?
No
Well there you go.
There's my speech. Any questions? Comments? Declarations of War? Whatever it is, I bet it won't be longer than my entry. And that's the way it should be

Unrelated Note: I have big plans for Entries 98, 99 and 100... Big plans of course meaning "A really long blog nobody in their right minds would be interested in reading". So there might be a long hiatus before entry 101 when y'all might want to start reading again
I have absolutely no plans for Entry 97 however.
Perhaps I'll do a piece on
the art of juggling geese.
