Sketches of Star Wars
Yeah, I know. Thrawn's last words are pretty cliche nowadays (except when they're in pager code... ;) ), but I think that its an apt description for this blog entry.

I've always enjoyed art, both looking at it and drawing it. I cut my teeth on such books as Where's Waldo? and I Spy; I've been drawing (poorly, for a long while) creatures, dinosaurs, and robots ever since I could pick up a pencil. Perhaps it may come as not surprise, then, that I like drawing Star Wars. Heck, one could say that I became an EU fan and a amateur Star Wars artist because one day I decided to illustrate and name every single droid, creature, and vehicle in the three Super Star Wars games. I don't think I ever got them all, but the experience gained helped me greatly. (One day I hope to bring those games into canon, but back to the art...) I've come a long way from those pre-teen sketches, but I still love drawing Star Wars.

Of course, this wouldn't be a Rogue_Follower-class blog entry if there weren't obscure references, and I'm proud to say that I try to put them in my art as much as possible. I also like homages. Without further ado about nothing: The Art!*

The General - Playing with Grievous is fun! Here's the black and white version. [Pen and ink, digital colors.]

Kyle Katarn - This was an early attempt to create a super-deformed Kyle Katarn. He came out a lot more realistic than I had planned, and thus does not exactly fall in the SD category. No reference in this one, I'm afraid... [All digital.]

The General meets the Grand Admiral - A hypothetical moment that was cooked up over at TheForce.net forums. I'm proud to say that it actually showed up on Abel Pena's blog. :8} (Here's an earlier black and white version.) [Pen, pencil, and digital color.]

One thing left to lose... - A piece depicting the final duel between Kyle Katarn and Jeng Droga, as mentioned in the Dark Forces Saga articles. I'm not finished with it yet... (Black and white sketch.) [Pencil and digital color.]

Gamorrean Gothic - An obvious homage to American Gothic; I found this pretty funny. Obscure Reference: The male's vibro-ax comes from Super Return of the Jedi. [Pen, color pencil, marker, and digital color.]

Jabba in Denial - A funny little piece referencing a rather crooked US president. This drawing was made for an essay on Jabba the Hutt that I hope to finish soon...(Black and white version.) [Pencils and digital color.]

Zorba the Hutt - One hirsute Hutt, and Jabba's father to boot. This is also from the aforementioned Jabba essay. [Pen and marker.]

Sariss and Yun - Two villains from the video game Jedi Knight, drawn in Webstrip style. [All digital.]

The Emperor's Pawns - An unofficial inside cover I did the Emperor's Pawns piece in Gamer a while back. Its pretty sketchy and unfinished, and I'm not really proud of the craftsmanship, but I really like the homage to the cover of Marvel #35: Dark Lord's Gambit. [Pencil and digital color.]

Max was here - An homage/reference to the "Kilroy was here" picture. It fits so well! [Pen, pencil, and digital color.]

Rahn and Yoda - The meeting between Rahn and Yoda, as described in the Dark Forces Saga. The obscure references are the mushrooms and background, which are from Super Empire Strikes Back. I like this one, and I'm not finished yet... [Pen, pencils, and digital color.]

Jedi and the Beast - Going back to my roots, I drew this battle straight from Super Return of the Jedi. (Continuity junkies will note that its not really Tantor, but I named the file after him for convenience.) [Pencil.]

Profit of Waru: WaruWare - Kind of a joke, I did this stuff for the "Church of Waru" over at TF.N. Not my best, but I really liked the pun on the title "Prophet of Waru." :p [All digital.]

The Hunters - A picture depicting part of young Boba Fett's adventures on Xagobah, from the Young Reader's series. I like it, though the clone's aren't great and its unfinished. [Pencils and digital color.]

Holiday Hoojib - A seasonal picture of those rediculous telepathic bunnies from Marvel comics, done for SWFA. Looking back, I wish I'd put more work into it. The hat is actually sort of an immitation of the Hoojib's antenna, which it covers up in this pic. [Pen, pencil, colored pencil, and digital "ink."]

That's it for now, but stay tuned for new art and updates!

Thanks for reading! Comments and criticism are welcome!

:)

* As you read the descriptions, you may see that I do a lot of stuff based on Abel Pena's work. Well... you'd be right. How can I be an obscure reference junkie without liking Abel Pena? ;) :)
