The Cold War led to a Third world war. |
A cease-fire has been declared between Hezbollah gureillas and the Israeli armed forces, claiming the lives of 119 Israeli soilders, 40 Israeli civillians and displaced 300,000 people from Israel's 3rd largest city; Haifa. Over 900 Lebanese were killed and a million displaced from their homes. But as one cease fire happens that dosent change the middle east, Iraqi insurgents are still at large, 2,500 U.S troops have died, 45,000 Iraqi civillians have been killed. Osama Bin Laden hasn't been caught and the terror threat in Britain is severe and has been branded as highly likely that Al-Queda will launch a terror attack soon. The Taliban still rule most parts of southern Afghanistan. Public support for Hezbollah are at an all time high all around the middle-east and Egypt. I beleive this is all due to the Cold War; When Soviet troops began the occupation of Afghanistan the U.S supplied the Taliban with weapons and money to defeat the Soviets ultimately putting the Taliban in power. The communists in Iran had seized power of the country and the U.S knew they shouldnt try to take out communism in Iran themselves so they got Iraq to do it, putting Saddam Huisein in power and all his followers.
The Cold War was between the U.S and the Soviet Union (Russia). The U.S wanted to rid communism form the face of the earth and introduce Democracy. While the Soviets (being a communist country) wanted to introduce communism to the world. But they knew they couldnt fight each other, because they are both super powers and attacking each other directly would lead to World War 3, so they did the next best thing: Got others to attack them. The U.S got the Taliban to fight the Soviets and the Soviets got the North Vietnamese to attack the U.S. both were wars with high losses of troops and funds, The Soviets pulled out of Afghanistan and the U.S pulled out of Vietnam. It is due to the Cold War that the trouble in the middle east is so bad.
I do agree with the war on terrorism I do, what the U.S have done in Iraq is a good thing, the same with Afghanistan. But the Cold War has screwd up many countrys. Genocides in Cambodia, Guetemala and Serbia are due to the Cold War.
When I say Third world war, I dont mean a World War 3, there is a difference, Third world country's (i.e Sudan) are places where poverty, famine, drought and war are common. Every continent has a Third world country in them, Africa is affected horrificly by aids and dont have the money to help the people (or has a corrupt goverment) and is basically a third world continent, South America has alot of third world troubles, North & Central America, Europe and Asia. A large majority of conflicts are in third world country's:
A genocide in Rwanda claimed the lives 800,000 Tutsi's, Sudan have constant wars, Lebanon very recently, Big problems in Columbia where the average life expectancy is 40 years old because things are so rough. Iraq are in deep conflict between the Shiites and the Sunnis. All because of ethnic rivalry. That is what the problem is in Iraq Shiite and Sunni militias are fighting constantly. The Hutu militia (Interhamwe) and the Tutsi rebels rivalry in 1994 led to a genocide.
So can we really pull out of Iraq? no we cant, we cant go in there otherthrow the leader and try to set up a new goverment and just pull out half way through! the Iraqi goverment isint stable enough yet to fight the insurgents and the insurgents will quickly take control. People seem to be ignorant to the fact that not everything can be solved with diplomacy, we couldnt just say "Oh please Mr Hussein please give up all your power and set up a democracy" some things have to be fought out, Sadaam Hussein
was undoubtably evil, he led a genocid against the Kurds, he took over Kuwait and became one of the most evil dictators in history. he had to be stopped.
I am not saying I like war, I hate it, because the fact of the matter is far more civillians are killed than actual soilders, If the they want to fight then that's their problem and they choose to fight, but please leave the civillians out of it! they didnt do anything, war is terrible and I hate it, but Sadaam had to be stopped, one way or another.
So that concludes my thoughts and this in no way looks to offend anyone at all, and if anyone does have a problem please tell me in a civilized manner, it is in no way a blog looking to get people to flame, I was merely stating my opinions.
See's ya!
