Ruminations on Star Wars

The beginning
I went to see Star Wars at Christmas 1977, at the Dominion Theatre in Tottenham Court Road in London, England. It used to be a huge cinema, on of London's best, before it was turned back to a theatre in the 1980's. But I digress!

I was 8 at the time, and thje only movies I had seen in the cinema were an old Herbie movie and The Apple Dumpling Gang (don't ask). Sitting in that cinema, not knowing what to expect, was a thrill in itself. Then the old Fox Fanfare and the immortal words "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...". In the next couple of hours my whole life transformed. I had never seen anything like this, and everyone of my contempories felt/feels the same (including my wife). Those of you who only saw the prequels at the cinema may have the same feeling, I don't know. I still get excited by the prequels, but nothing compares to the first shot of that enormous Star Destroyer looming over you.
