Luke is a great Jedi Knight. Lucas does not take the EU into account, so I'll use elements of the saga.
First, he immediately believes in the Force and desires to study it. He learns the basics and then goes to Yoda. He gets trained for two weeks or something and then he confronts Vader. Not successfully, but really good for a newbie.
We can see he is an extraordinarily fast learner. Then, one year later, after lots of training, his powers were doubled.
He confronted Vader again. Well, it would take a six-minute long (
http://blogs.starwars.com/saberb/1) epic duel and a courageous attempt by Luke, but he finally beat his father. Only Obi-Wan managed to do that in the past...
Then, after seeing that his rage makes him super-powerful, he refuses to turn
to the dark side. Later on, he succeed in redempting his father. So he was physically (he beat Vader, geez) and mentally (he refused to turn to the DS) powerful.
As for Anakin, I believe he is worse than Luke, a less powerful and less careful
Jedi. Anakin beat Dooku. Luke beat Anakin (Vader), so Luke's more powerful physically (the theory that Anakin in ROTS is stronger than Vader in ROTJ is unsupported by me).
As for wisdom, I think Luke is better, cause he did not succumb to Palpy the way Anakin did. But Anakin needed power to save Padme, so he was more "desperate".
