This question has been haunting me.
The novel says that Luke hits Vader's saber over Palpatine's head,
but here's something that is not shown in the movie:
... "Luke jumped back, lightsaber upraised, to face his father. Vader extended his own blade, poised to do battle. The Emperor faces the combatants- he is the sole audience to this dire, aggrieved contest."
Then there is another scene on Endor. When we get back to the fight,
it describes things that are not seen in the movie again:
"...Slowly, Luke and Vader circled. Saber above his head, Luke readied his attack from classic 1st place; the Dark Lord held a lateral stance, in classic answer. Without announcement, Luke brings his blade straight down, when Vader moved to parry, Luke feinted and cut low (...more detailed fighting, Vader parries all attacks...) The first blows, traded without injury. Again, they circled."
Then it says that Vader is surprised by his son's power blah blah blah....Then Luke attacks very aggressively, and makes Vader retreat one step for every blow.
And then, there's what we do see on screen...Luke battling DV for 10 secs and then kicking him down the stairs.
Now, questions:
1) Does this cut amount of fighting described above cover 3 minutes of fighting? What do you think, what does it feel like to you? It says they "slowly circled". That part, could be extended, I mean, it could be 1 minute per circle (they did two, and two attacks by Luke 30 secs each, this way, does cover the pie). What do you think?
2) But it never mentions if they were trading blows while circling, I got the feeling they did. How does that sound like to you? Do you agree with me? But you never know, for it's never mentioned...On the other side of the coin, Wookieepedia says that Luke and Vader battled on the dais before the Emperor's throne, equally matched. And what Wokieepedia says is a fact, we all know that. Plus, it says that the first blow
s are traded without injury, while Luke's first attack was only one blow, so I guess they definitely traded more blows while circling. For this reason, I think we must assume more blows in the circles. But I also think it's a bit up to the fan to decide, but what do
you think?
Thanks for reading. I want 10-15 comments answering both questions.
Have a beautiful day and MTFBWY always.
