Duel on Death Star II: Luke vs Vader: Why were three minutes of the duel cut from the movie?
To understand this entry, you must read http://blogs.starwars.com/saberb/1
first, where I explain that there was a cut scene of the duel. This is my 5th entry for this duel, and you'd better get used to it...
Now, what are the reasons he cut the scene? Lucas says, it was just two guys
hitting each other with sticks.
Now, after reading the ROTJ novel, I can assure you for that. It describes the interim with every detail, like, Luke moved his saber up and so did Vader blah blah blah...
At that time, Lucas didn't know that fans loved lightsaber battles so much.
That's why he didn't put five saber duels in every film, like the Prequels.
He was more of a story teller, so he'd rather show the other battle, where there are things going on, and not just clashing.
If I was Lucas, I would show that scene too, but, alas, I would not cut 3 minutes and 10 seconds of pure lightsaber action!
But, anyway, we can allways fill the 3 minute gap by playing it with action figures, toy lightsabers etc. You could say it is better that way; it is up to you to create a 3 minute-long duel!

What would you do? Post a comment!
