OK, yes I was disappointed with the pavilion. Yes, I was annoyed at it being disorganized. Overall, however, I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Yes, I am critical, but it's only because I expect the best from Lucasfilms when it comes to representing Star Wars. I'm the type of fan who defends Phantom Menace and Jar Jar to outsiders (non-Star Wars fans), but can acknowledge to the Star Wars community that it was a big disappointment. Yeah picture to the right could not be re-shot since the x-wing was absent this year ----->
I had a blast! I succumed the darkside and bought an Episode III Anakin Master Replica FX Light saber. I played with it all weekend. I sparred with my brother, who bought the Darth Vader light saber. It was a great piece for communicating with other fans, specially young ones. I let a lot of kids play with it and their eyes lit up when they saw how cool it was. I think some parents were shocked when they heard the price, but some bought it anyway. I don't think $120 is too much for the fun it keeps on giving. Plus, buying it at the Con you don't have to worry about shipping and handling and it's instant gratification!
I was lucky to be one of the few to received a free copy of The Art of Star Wars Episode III. Pablo Hildago was soooo sweet to give it to me. I showed it to my brother and he couldn't put it down! My mother, who is a seamstress, loved the pictures of the costumes and really admired the workmanship.
I had a good time at the fan breakfast. Although I was disappointed with the service and that this
http://www.starwars.com/community/event/fanclub/img/20050531_1.jpg was not part of the goody bag, even though the stupid ad made it look like it was included. Regardless, I got a lot of cool collectibles and my brother had an awesome time, too! I got to meet some cool people who sat at my table.
The Star Wars Day events in room 9 were fun. The SD Star Wars Society were very nice to host the trivia game, although all the shuffling around of people from the left and right side of the room seemed a little chaotic. The Star Wars Spectacular wasn't that spectacular. I mean really, what did we learn that was new? Yeah the videos were cool, but they were simple montages of footage we've already seen.
I think the biggest and most important thing that Comic Con did for us is bring us together. Here we can enjoy our fandom out in the open and can get away from our daily lives and just focus on all the stuff we love so much with the celebrities we've always wanted to meet. Ray Park is such a sweetie and a major hottie! Matthew Wood was hilarious with his "When you wish upon a star" rendition a la Grievous coughs and all!
By Sunday, a Master Replica lightsaber was de rigor for all Star Wars fans. There was a lot of schwag and I was completely exhausted. I wish it wouldn't end, but like Star Wars, all good things must come to an end. At least until next year. Although I heard a rumor that 2006 is the last year that San Diego hosts the Con. I hope it isn't true, 'cause that would be very sad. Yes, this was bigger than a nutshell, but considering everything that we experienced, I could have written a freaking novel.
