I Love Ya, Star Wars...
Hello there...

I am sitting here reflecting on my day at work. It was a normal, average, steady day, the kinda day where you can sorta go on autopilot, and not worry too much about all of the little things. A nice day... a lovely day. A day that I often have, and am so happy to have at my job. And then that one thing came up... the one thing I hate. I'm not gonna go into detail about it here, because it doesn't really matter what it was... just the fact that "it" happened is enough. It was nothing serious, everything is AOK... but when "it" happens, it is truly so terribly annoying.

And it got me to thinking... about how we can find ourselves completely involved or immersed in something we like (or even love), only to come across that one thing that drives us up the wall. And yes, I know that HATE is such a strong word, but I started to compare this to Star Wars, something I love, and even though I really, really love it, and engage (how ST of me) myself in the world of SW often, there are things about it that make me cringe... things I hate. Like the SE Greedo/Han scene, Threepio's higher, more "chipper" voice in the PT, and alot of the EU stuff (Chewbacca dying, all of the fan-generated canon/continuity brawls) that really switches me off.

I know I'm not alone here, and I know that we all obviously love Star Wars, but what about it (if anything) makes you go crazy? Causes you to seethe like a Sith filled with hate?

Or, simply makes you want to pull your hair out?

Listen here, Star Wars... you know I love ya. Heck, I might even die for ya.

But... sometimes you can really be a scruffy-lookin' nerfherder!!

And quit leaving the toothpaste on the sink!

The Han/Greedo scene. I could rant about it for days on end. And the overuse of CGI. I'm a stop-motion afficianado, alotta the movies I make are in stop-motion, and I think it can be one of the best special effects EVER. But when I see it being thrown aside for cheap, overused CGI that doesn't ever look real no matter how hard you work on it... It drives me crazy.

Replacing good stop-motion effects with cheap CGI is like leaving the toilet seat up. You just don't do it.

Han stepping on Jabba's tail.
Obi-Wan's two fingered battle stance in ROTS.
Episode 1 puppet Yoda.
Vader's SE line "Alert my Star Destroyer..."
3PO's antics on Geonosis.
Any line uttered by Hayden (although he's got good abs, girls, before you start).
Palpatine's saber skills and silly faces as he duels Mace.
Jar Jar's somersault into the lake.
The fact that you don't see any hyperspace lines in the prequels.

I could go on, but it would waste space. However, I'd like to add that the things that make me happy about the films outweighs the things that I hate, by a huge margin.

One of the things that always bugs me are most of the lines said during the first 30 minutes of Episode III. They make me cringe.

I also dislike how little music is used in those first 30 minutes. Most of the Count Dooku duel has no music!

Jar-Jar Binks.

The fact that, mysteriously, as soon as Vader's in that big black suit, he can act, and very well at that, when he so couldn't before.

All of Padme's hair issues.

Self-important prequel cameos.

Characters unnecessarily CGI'd.

Seeing Boba Fett without his helmet.

Though, yeah. I still love it. It made it into the box of stuff I'm not shipping to college next week. It's in the box I'm carrying with me. So there is great love.

Star Wars... you know I love ya. Heck, I might even die for ya. LOL! :D For me, it was the opposite, SW gave me a reason to really live again. :D

Gee, I dunno. To me it's all good. Even Jar-Jar. I think he gets a bad rap. Had Jar-Jar been "cast" for the part of Yoda, we would all be consulting a Gungan's wisdom. Think about it - that little, green, wrinkled, hobbling...thing...a Jedi Master? Talk about your oxymorons! :p "Don't judge a species by it's Gungan..." or something like that ;)

Any line uttered by Hayden (although he's got good abs, girls, before you start). Oh now, come on...Da Maker is a genius-he chose Hayden for a reason...and it wasn't necessarily his abs...'nuff said :D

Hmm, I have my own list of Star Wars irritations...

-The altered Jedi Spirits scene at the end of RotJ
-R2's need to scream and beep "uh-oh" constantly in RotS
-Yoda Vs. Palpatine
-TPM's "wacky CG characters"
-"I don't like sand..."
-When Legolas roars "SCOUT!" (Whoops, that's Lord of the RIngs)
-The "Jedi Rocks" scene (worst of them all)

I won't mention the ones that others have already posted, most of which I agree with, especially 3PO's Geonosis moments and puppet Yoda. But insult Obi-Wan's awesome battle stance and you insult all that I stand for. ;)

Continuing on with my girly theme...if George wanted to tell a love story in EPII, then he needed to tell it from a more mature perspective--as painful as it is to say, it was like a 14 year old had written the entire thing. Wow! I could hardly think of a single thing at first and then I read all the comments and well..... There are several areas that could have used improvement. Most I have reconciled with......even Jar Jar, because I respect what they were trying to do, even if they couldn't quite do it. Even the lines in the romance don't bug me too much because the psychological motivation behind them, and therefore the way it all comes crashing down really resonates. If I had to pick one thing it's Han saying to Jabba "You're a wonderful human being." 'cause I'm always like, but Jabba's not human and that just bugs nine Corellian hells out of me.

as soon as Vader's in that big black suit, he can act

Sorry to halt you in your tracks, but Vader's a character, not an actor. Hayden may be able to act in the Vader suit, but Vader don't act.

Which brings me to this question, and I'm amazed that I don't know the answer, nor can I be bothered to hit a search engine to find the answer:

Who did the voice of Vader in ROTS?

JE Jones? Hayden? Or just some random with a voice changer?

I hear you on that.

It made it into the box of stuff I'm not shipping to college next week.

If that were me, I'd just pack the OT, ebay the PT.

Da Maker is a genius-he chose Hayden for a reason...

First off, if you're referring to George Lucas as Da Maker, then you're delusional. He's a film maker, director, rich mofo. He may have once been a genius, but that was my opinion back in the 80s. Anything he's touched since 1983 puts him in the category of "Da Useless"

In my humble opinion. Secondly, his reasons for choosing Hayden are fraught with hallucinogens.

Despite my hatred of Hayden, I applaud jake Lloyd. I think I'm the only Lloyd/Anakin fan. Of course, I'd have preferred it if Da Useless had written Anakin older, but I quite like Lloyd's scenes and his abilitiy to act.

Jacen Solo

I mean how could you kill off Chewie!!!!

Come now, don't cry. Killing off Chewie, however much I love him, was a stroke of genius. Looking back, I wish he'd have been killed off in the movies. Perhaps if George had filmed today, he may have. Imagine if the 24 makers had made Star Wars - no one is safe!

but if someone could explain to me why people don't like that line I'd just love to be informed.

Two reasons:

1. There was nothing wrong with the original line "Bring my shuttle". Simple. To the point. And obeyed.

2. It sounds nothing like Vader.

"Don't judge a species by it's Gungan..." or something like that

Or, perhaps, don't judge a species by it's main reperesentation in a movie. Anyway, there isn't much that annoy's me about Star Wars. I hate it when people insist that the altered Jedi Spirits scene is horrible. That's my favorite moment in the entire saga, when you see young Anakin come back. It would take a whole blog for me to explain why. One thing I do hate though is in the Battlefront 2 video game, and that is how easily overpowerd Anakin is by Aayla Secure in Hero mode. And General Grievous' attack consistency in the ROTS game.

The insertion of the Han/Jabba scene in ANH strikes me as one of the most bizzare decisions of the re-release. I don't know why they felt the need to establish Jabba as a character at that point, when the Emperor - a driving force of the whole Saga - barely even gets a mention in that film, let alone screen time. Then there's the Chewie continuity goof, the tail stepping, the referring to Jabba as a "human being" ("Ha ha ha! Irony!" No.), and the insertion of Boba Fett. Silly.

Who did the voice of Vader in ROTS?

Jonesy. If I heard right, he specifically requested to not be credited.

There was nothing wrong with the original line "Bring my shuttle".

The issue with that line is that Vader says it as he is walking out the door to the landing platform, where his shuttle is already waiting (that's the way it looks in the edit, anyway). So, either Vader looks like a doofus, or the audience thinks, "#### me, that shuttle's quick!".

Anakin Skywalker, himself. In the movies and the EU. He comes off as unnecessarily whiny, cocky and incompetent of following instruction like he does in the OT. In the originals he does whatever he is told to do, wether it be Tarkin or Palpatine. In the PT, he does whatever the heck he wants, disregarding whatever Yoda or Obi-Wan says.

One straaaange thing that drives me nuts is what Luke says in ESB right after R2 gets spit out of that creature on Dagobah. In the original, Luke says, "You're lucky you don't taste very good." In the SE, he says, "You were lucky to get out of there."

What the Kessel??? That's such a silly thing to change! (And I liked the original line...:()

You're right about that... the saga's key characters for aliens really have stereotyped their various races. As I played through Knights of the Old Republic, I began to anticipate the personalities of the Rodians I ran across. They were almost all morons and wanted nothing more than to shoot random people, especially my character. While there's no denying that I found many of these encounters funny, I can see your point.

New Star Wars pet peeve! Rodian stereotyping! Individuality to the Rodians! (I think I've reached a new level of strangeness.)

I love the addition of young Anakin to that scene, too. If you think about it, it makes perfect sense to have him there. It was young Anakin that was lost to the light side of the Force, so it is fitting that after he's redeemed the light side brings back Anakin at the point when he was lost. Am I making sense??? ?:|
