Sometimes I Feel Like Han In Carbonite
With recent events weighing heavily on me, I've decided to post an entry about dealing with life, and everything that goes with it, knowing that all of you have gone through many things in your lives, just as I have. It's never an easy journey... not even for the strongest, bravest people around.

The recent tragedy at Virginia Tech reminds me that there are so many horrible things that can happen in life, and that I truly need to take a few moments to realize what is so important... making the most of the time you have here, and (trying) to live life to it's fullest. I know, that may sound corny, and it's probably true, but I think it's at least something you can keep in the back of your mind, even when the kids are crying, the electric company accidentally shuts you off, and the garbageman just backed up on your brand new trash cans.

I'm not trying to compare those things to events much more horrible, but you probably get the picture....

Honestly, I feel like this is a good place to vent, and I'm sure many of you can agree. There are so many nice people on this site, and with the anonymity and all, I sorta feel safe here. It's not always easy to open up with family members, or co-workers, you know, you gotta be strong! The Force is with me! And, sometimes it isn't.

Explaining my title a bit, sometimes I really do feel like Han in Carbonite... alive but trapped. I've read that when someone is carbon-frozen they can be aware that they are there, but only slightly. This is exactly how I feel sometimes... I can sense everything going on around me, but there's nothing I can really do to change it. You can do everything possible, or so you think, to prevent terrible things from happening, but in the end, many things are out of your control. Sometimes, like Han, you just need someone to help you... isn't that why we have friends?

You know that saying... Alone in a crowd... sometimes I really relate to that. Yes, it's dramatic, but life often is. I wonder how many people feel that way... even when you try your best to represent yourself in a positive way, alot of people still don't get you. Or maybe, sometimes people don't want to understand each other or even care, and then bad things happen.

Wow, this sounds so downtrodden, and I'm not by any means trying to make anyone totally depressed by reading this! But sometimes I feel as though I have trouble opening up about things, especially in a format such as this, but I know you all understand that. We're all here for a reason. We love Star Wars and we enjoy writing, and commenting and sharing, and in the short time I've been here I've already met some really nice people, and I thank you for listening.

And so, I must remind myself that whenever I'm feeling down, to think good thoughts, listen to lovely music I like (Sarah Vaughan), look at my favorite painting (The Starry Night, the print of course!), or pick out one of my favorite movies to watch... any one out of the six.

Hey, I think many of us have been there ... felt like being in carbonite. you're not alone ... and you know you can count on us for support! It is a tragedy what happened in Virginia, and those kinds of things should just not happen ... it's not right when people commit such terrible acts against each other.
Just keep on writing your blogs, and it will help you feel worlds better!

Yesterday i went to the Oklahoma City Memorial, Thursday was the 12th anniversary. The atmosphere in that place is so different from the rest of the city.... Quiet and serene. You can amost feel the spirits of those people who died there. Awesomely chilling.

Honestly, I feel like this is a good place to vent, and I'm sure many of you can agree. Definitely! You know I have a time or two, or three, and I'm planning an entry on the Memorial. We have such a wonderful, positive support system here.

isn't that why we have friends? Of course it is! Mr. Pitt, you feel free any time to email me! I'm a very good listener.

When I'm down, I listen to the SW soundtracks or 70's music I haven't heard in a long time. It takes me right back to when I was a kid. Some of my best memories are from the late 70's.

My guess is LOTS. Well, you & me for starters! And you're right about feeling safe here-- these people are so wonderful. Sure we're all crazy SW fans...but we're still real, and real things happen in our lives. One thing I can always count on here is that people want to understand and be supportive, which, as you mentioned, isn't always the case in life.

listen to lovely music I like (Sarah Vaughan)
Oh yeah! Good choice!;)

Sorry, didn't mean to bold everything...

sometimes I really do feel like Han in Carbonite........alive but trapped

I think we all experience this feeling from time to time- I know I do. But for me, the best remedy for that alone in a crowd feeling is re-connection, which is why is say "right on" and "me, too" to your comments about this GREAT online community we have here.

This is exactly how I feel sometimes.......I can sense everything going on around me, but there's nothing I can really do to change it.

I've felt this way countless times, but I have to remember not to let it get me down. I can't change the way of the world- not by a long shot. I can do my best to keep a positive attitude, and hope by doing so to brighten someone else up in the process.

Even when that doesn't work, I know I have here to release my thoughts. The people here are all so nice, it's almost unreal. I've never met this many people who are so kind and thoughtful in one place before. I guess I have to credit Star Wars for bringing us all together. :D

We're all here for a reason.

This truly is a wonderful virtual community of Star Wars fans. And it goes far beyond enjoying the same fictional universe. Perhaps it really is the will of the Force that we're all here in Star Wars blog-town. You're among friends here.

Yeah I know the feeling!

SW movies seem to be doing the trick for me for about a year and half now. I just pop one of those babies in my DVD and I'm off to the GFFA where nothing can touch me + frequenting this site where all my friends reside. It's vgood therapy at least for me!

making the most of the time you have here, and (trying) to live life to it's fullest.
It's hard to remember these wise words, but so important, especially when something like the VA Tech tragedy is brought to our attention.

You can do everything possible, or so you think, to prevent terrible things from happening, but in the end, many things are out of your control.
That's a lesson that our fav Dark Lord learned the hard way! :O
Really, it's what is most frustrating in life, especially when you have younglings. I share your frustration, but as you said, I'm glad we have this wonderful SW community that's so supportive.

........making the most of the time you have here, and (trying) to live life to it's fullest.

I can't stress this enough..."Live one day at a day as though it were your last." I can't remember where that original quote came from, but when things get REAL bad for me, which they do, I always remind myself to take it one day at a time, one moment at a time, on hour at a time and one minute at a time. And this too shall pass. ;)

Best wishes to you & hopes that things take a turn for the better in your life. Yes, we all have our own crosses to bare in our lives, but the kind words of friends, even strangers, can always lighten that load, or at least bring it into a brighter perspective. I myself have only been here a few weeks, but the people who responded before me seem to be some of the nicest you would want to meet. Take Care & Keep your chin up...:D

I think everyone has experienced the "Alone in a crowd" feeling & yeah, the carbonite comparison is probably pretty accurate. I spent a good 9 years feeling frozen in carbonite back east... & just before we moved here to Vegas people already lost interest in me. I showed up at a concert (a good 6 months BEFORE we were moving) & someone actually said to me, "You're still here?" Not a great moment in my life.

Making the most of every moment is such a great philosophy & I try not to beat myself up when I take a day "off" to do nothing but read instead of doing something meaningful. You know what I mean? I worry to no end that I will leave this world without leaving a mark. I know I left MA w/o leaving a mark - people made that apparent even before we left that I wasn't a valuable member of the community. I hope that before I'm done here, there will be at least one person who is glad to have known me.

How's that for depressing?

I'm right there with you, Pitt. Life can be a trial sometimes. I've been out of work pretty much since last July and the financial pressure and all around stress can be crushing at times... but I find that the support and friendship I've found on this site has made a big difference in how I approach things. I know I can vent here and people understand... I cherish each and every cyber hug.

The things that get me through.... my faith in God, my friends and family.... and Star Wars and the community that goes along with it. Oh, and Doctor Who.... but that's for a different forum. ;)

its very easy to let things life what happened at Virginia Tech bring us to our knees in fear, but we have to look BEYOND these things and realize that even in the midst of tragedies there are also amazing feats of courgage, kindness & generousity that take place in this world every single day. It is these things we need to focus on as we struggle to simply carry on.

and I agree wholeheartedly, the blogs are a GREAT place to share & vent...far cheaper than a therapist anyways... ;)

You are so right.

Whenever I get down, I take a look out of my window and look at a tree, then focus in on one branch, then a twig, then a leaf, and (if I can see any) details on the leaf.

Somehow it makes me feel better, and reminds me how beautiful the world truly is.

reminds me how beautiful the world truly is.
That reminds me of the movie American Beauty. The guy Wes Bentley plays (forgot his name) records everything on his video camera. He recorded an empty bag in the street simply being blown around by the wind; it looked like the bag was dancing. He thought it was incredibly beautiful. If someone, even in a movie, can see beauty like that, it's really inspiring.
