 | Insider Falling |
So I got my brand new issue of Insider this week. I'd been anticipating getting it, eagerly checking the mail box everday. Finally when I got it I sat down and read it through. Fast.
Really fast.
Too fast. Way too fast.
Why? Because I'm a fast reader? No. Because I skipped over some articles os I could look at them later? No.
Because there wasn't much substance to it?
Yes.
Really, I should've known. This has been an ongoing thing. Ever since Paizo left the Insiders have left quite a bit to be desired. However, the most recent issue has been the worst sinner so far.
My two major qualms are this:
1) We had an article about ILM's work on other movies. I don't want to read about other movies in a Star Wars magazine, I can go to any of the other major sci-fi magazines to read about movie special effects. Why the heck is there a six page article on movies that have nothing to do with Star Wars? It's not even a Lucas creation like Indiana Jones or THX-1138.
2) Next up we had an article on the O-OT. Apparently they felt the need to tell us what the "changes" would be. Didn't we learn all about these changes when the Special Edition came out in the first place? Weren't we oversaturated with "OMG that's a new scene!!!!!!!"? I guess not because we get yet another article on the "changes."
Now, there are other things that are missing. The readers' letters have decreased to half a page, there's no humor and the back of the magazine is all ads for over priced material on shopstarwars.com.
For the first time I'm considering not signing back up for more Insider next year.
It's time to step up the game, folks.
