 | Halo 3 Personal Review *NO SPOILERS* |
Ok, lemme tell ya right now: FOUR STARS.
Yes, you heard me right, FOUR, no, not five, FOUR STARS.
Now let me explain why...
Halo 3 was expected to be an all out, 10 of 10 game... Well, it's not... And this is coming from a kid that's been counting the milliseconds and living all Halo 3 before it came out. To tell you the truth, I really didn't expect it to get a full 10/10. I expected a 9/10 or an 8/10.
Halo 3 is the game that many gamers have been waiting for for a VERY long time. And it's MOSTLY made of what they wanted the most. All games have their ups and downs. Halo 3's got a couple believe it or not. One of them, is the lack of mysterious questions, that have been lingering around our heads for a while, being answered. We don't find out where the Flood came from, we don't know where the Forerunners first lived, we have no idea whatsoever of what Adjutant Reflex is, and we don't know where the rest of the Forerunners went. Also, it lacks some in gameplay. The time it takes to bring back your gun from a meele attack is still too long. The amount of ammo found on the maps of the guns that we really like is very limited, and Heroic and Legendary difficulty is NOT suitable for Single Player. Even though the Manual suggests it, Heroic is NOT good, even for the most experienced of Halo players... I suggest playing on Normal for single and if you have 3 people, play Heroic, if you have a full 4, go for Legendary. Be sure to help eachother out in Legendary because once on your own in different sections of the map, you're really screwed.
Anyway, for Multiplayer, there are some issues that could use fixing.
The matchmaking ranks could be a little better matched. I'm a level 5 Apprentice Grade 2 playing against a level 11 Lieutenant Grade 3. He owned my arse. I even got lucky to play a Colonel. Yeah, there could be some fixeruping in that department. In Custom Games, everyting seems fine to me. Forge is wonderful except, the limitations of areas you can put stuff in. And some objects like weapon cases and UNSC computers are not available. Those two things would make my map a LOT more successful. Now for the good parts.
Everything else.
Now for the ratings of the three packages.
For the average gamer that's not really into the details of the game and not caring about the behind the scenes, the Standard Edition is best suited for you.
For a gamer that's into fine cases, behind the scenes and extras about the storyline, the Limited/Collector's Edition (Which I have) is great for you.
For a gamer looking to blow $60 more on a helmet you can't wear and a bunch of cutscenes you can see on youtube for free, Legendary Edition is good for you.
Really, Collector's Edition is the best way to go, $10 bucks more for about 180 Minutes of bonus footage and 4 Themes and gamer pic packs AND a little game of Warthog launch to get some laughs out of, is a GREAT deal. AND you get a METAL case WITH a little book that shows you info about the Speicies in Halo. Legendary: A big plastic Un-Wearable helmet, some Cutscenes, the same stuff Collector's has and a plastic tray.
Price for the packs:
Standard: $59.99
Collector's: $69.99
Legendary: $129.99
Your pick.
P.S. You may be hearing about the "Horrible" Ending Halo 3 had. Don't listen to them. They didn't watch the Cutscene AFTER the credits. And if you play it on Legendary Difficulty, you get an extra THRILLING 20 seconds which get's your mind racing. Trust me, it's a much better ending, AFTER the credits.
