It's a bit hard to believe that this is post number 100. It's actually my 99th entry - thanks to a deleted entry somewhere in the mid-80s - but it seems odd to talk about the 100th post at entry number 101, so we'll just overlook that fact for the moment.
Reading the blogs over the past couple of years has been entertaining, and educational.
VIP insight into behind the scenes activities is always fun to see. I learned some new sketching techniques and re-acquainted myself with some old ones thanks to
Bonnie Burton's You Can Draw Star Wars, and in particular, Matt Busch's great video demonstration series at
DK and here on
starwars.com. I've seen excellent source material and other information from VIPs and dedicated fans alike.
Over the course of my own starwars.com blogging career, the vast majority of posts have covered aspects of Star Wars gaming, focusing on the Star Wars Miniatures and RPG games. Certainly, when I started this blog, I didn't expect the RPG to provide a lot of new material, as the new edition had not been announced yet, and all the speculation on the fate of the game was dismal. Fortunately, things were not as they appeared, and the RPG has fired up a new wave of interest in the gaming community.
Speaking of the RPG, I've watched the
Hyperspace Member Exclusive Source Archive with great interest. Starwars.com - probably thanks to
Pabawan - is introducing some of the more influential stories and source material from the West End Games edition to a wider audience. Many of these elements really helped to flesh out the universe and increase its depth for both the RPG players and the fans at large. One entry in particular caught my eye - the
Rodian clan list from the Shadows of the Empire Planets Guide. As I was the author of the Rodian section of the book, I'll dig out my notes and discuss it in a future post. I can't wait to see what shows up next.
This week is
GenCon, so any new minis and RPG news that wasn't already announced at Celebration should be covered at
FRIDAY's * Star Wars RPG and Minis seminar. As with previous years, I'll post the news plus a few of my own thoughts on the new products and show in general.
If you just can't wait for something new, you might check out the latest at the Wizards website, such as:
The new
Dawn of Defiance RPG Campaign is gearing up. The opening module Prelude to Defiance is debuting at GenCon, but you can find the Campaign Standards for character generation, etc.
here.
The latest Saga Edition Web Enhancement is up, featuring the
Devorians.
The customizing Star Wars minis articles continue with
part 2.
Download these handy
Force Power Cards, for use with the RPG. Believe me, these are really useful in-game. Bonus: They include the official errata for some Force Powers.
Speaking of the errata,
here it is.
Jedi Counseling continues to answer RPG and Minis questions.
Need the latest
Star Wars Miniatures rulebook, updated for the latest sets?
Download the free PDF or get the hardcopy with the new
Starter Set.
Listen to a
podcast interview with Erik Olsen, Wizards Site Manager for the Star Wars Minis and RPG web pages (look for Show #8).
That should hold you till GenCon, anyway...
Thanks for reading.
Sterling
* Edit: GenCon attendees note, the WotC SW RPG/Minis Seminar has been changed to FRIDAY at 10am instead of Saturday as originally scheduled.
