Star Wars RPG websites
It's hard to believe, but Star Wars roleplaying games have been around for over 19 years now. While I could entertain you with some story about how I've seen the game develop from its earliest version, I'll save that for another blog....I'm sure you're interested.

Anyway, the point is, the fans have had a long time to create a lot of different websites with the sort of information they wanted to share with the rest of the Star Wars gaming world.

Even longer than that previous sentence.

For example:
Sites dedicated to the original D6 game only?
Yes.

Sites dedicated to the d20 game?
One for sure. For the rest, you're more likely to find sites that cater to both camps....I mean groups of fans.

Sites dedicated to miniatures?
Shhhhh! You'll scare off the dedicated RPG only fans...besides, that was in a previous blog.

Sites dedicated to online RPG gaming?
Certainly.

How about an old school mux that has been around for about 10 years?
Yes, even that. Assuming it's still active.

I know, what about an online index?
No problem.

OK, what if I don't know what the SWRPG is?
Thanks for reading this far...Read this blog entry, then come back....

Now, most SWRPG fans know the West End D6 game has been out of print since the company went bankrupt in the late '90s. On the other hand, the current license holder, Wizards of the Coast, has not produced a dedicated RPG book for the d20 game for a couple of years now, though there have been some stats in recent minis products. This leaves a lot of room for those interested in filling in the gaps.

For example, you can find unofficial, fan created sourcebooks for a variety Star Wars eras. From what I've heard, they vary in quality and completeness, but the authors are typically very dedicated. Because of my freelancing work, I don't read them myself, but many fans like them.

So, here are a few sites I find interesting and/or useful when it comes to the Star Wars roleplaying games. This is by no means a complete list. If you want to find others, try the links section of the various sites.

Wizards of the Coast - official site. Some new RPG content appears on this site from time to time, usually in the form of stats or regular Jedi Counseling articles on rules and errata. Most recently, they posted a freeRevenge of the Sith Collection PDF. While it is a reposting of material already on the website, it has been nicely combined into a single source and formatted to match the printed RPG products. You can also find older adventures and web-enhancements on the site, though with the recent update, you may have better luck using the search function.

The SWRPGNetwork - The SWRPGNetwork is by far my favorite fan site. This Ennie award winning site features forums dedicated to both the D6 and d20 games, as well as online roleplaying. You can find conversions between the two game systems and references to fan created sourcebooks and articles. Two of the site's administrators/moderators are regular WotC freelancers (Rodney Thompson and Gary Sarli (the current Jedi Counselor and Wizo moderator). You can even find a current copy of the RPG FAQ here.

Star Wars RPG Index - An online index for both the D6 and d20 games. No stats, just an index of many many products.

Star Wars Artists Guild - Looking for some art for your RPG game? Try out this site. If you can't find something you like, you can make a request for something unique.

The Unofficial Marvel Comics Star Wars Roleplaying Game Page
This site is one of the most unique RPG sites around. Dedicated to the old school Marvel comics, you'll find fan created stats and descriptions for a lot of those characters overlooked from the old comics. Its mostly D6, but there's some d20 as well.

Lightsabre - A dedicated Star Wars D6 gaming site, also includes other related Star Wars interviews and other articles. One of the webmasters is also active here on the blogs.

Aside from the index site above, here are a couple of useful catalogue sites:
Pen and Paper
Star Wars d6 Catalogue

There are quite a few places to find online RPGs, usually played on messageboards. Here are some of them. I haven't used any myself, but I know people regularly ask about where to find them. These seem active.

SWRPGNetwork roleplaying forum

Role Playing Games Network

Star Wars Roleplaying Game Association

Star Wars Roleplaying Club

And finally, the old school MUX that's been around for about 10 years. It still seem active. Star Wars X: The Brak Sector MUX. Despite the name of my old product, I've never actually played the MUX .

So, take a look around and have some fun. I'm sure there are plenty of good sites not listed here. If nothing else, you can always try a google search.

One final note, thanks to Darth Cmept's question to spur me into posting this. I've been thinking about it for several months.
