Darth Plagueis the wise
I've got a theory, and if I ever get the creative juices flowing enough I might even be inspired to write a fan-fiction based on this (though I've never actually written a fiction before.) But since that's not all that likely to happen I thought I'd share some of my thoughts on Plagueis with you all.

Now, firstly, you have to get past all the speculation. Plagueis was Sidious' master and everything that Palpatine said about him was true. Great? Great. If you can't get to that point... well... THIS ISN'T ONE OF THOSE BLOGS! Go ahead and pick out one of the billion blogs that ARE about that and comment on those... please :) I just sorta feel that if all we ever do is moan about whether or not he actually existed we'll never get to the juicy stuff...

Now, on to my latest crazy theory :)

So we know that eternal life was achieved by Plagueis, but we also know from Qui-Gon's conversation with Yoda (in the ROTS novel) that eternal life is only an option for those who give themselves up selflessly.

Plagueis uncovered this secret, the secret that the Sith have ultimately been searching for for generations and what he discovers is that as a self-serving, evil Sith lord he can't POSSIBLY live forever.

He was called "the wise" by, at least, Palpatine... so what if his wisdom eventually took him down a different path? A path that what was completely opposite of everything the Sith stood for and he became good!
This goodness was sensed by Palpatine, who decided that Plagueis was still a Sith, but growing too weak and weak-minded to keep the Sith strong which is when he decides to kill him in his sleep.

Comments are always welcome.

EDIT:
The best rebuttle to my theory seems to be that Sidious clearly meant a more fleshly sort of eternity. But I'm curious how he could have known that unless his master never died?
Perhaps when Palpatine told him the "truth" about Plagueis, that he "could keep the ones he cared about from dying." He was refering to a time when Plagueis offered him the secret, but told him it would require a great sacrifice of his power... Palpatine, not being all that wise at the time, didn't understand it and refused it. So Plagueis actually offered someone "he cared about" the secret to eternal life :)

Everyone seems to think Palpatine is omnipotent, but why should he know everything about everything he says? Perhaps he speaks from his own "certain point-of-view" and in reality, has no idea what he's talking about.

Check out more brilliant theories in My Blog Directory... well... more theories anyway :D
