Welcome my young apprentice's... My name is Darth Domoax, a Dark Lord of the Sith. Tonight I will be discussing the Sith Philosophies. Lets begin.
Sith Rule #1- Established by Darth Bane, Directly following the last great Sith War: There can only be 2 Sith- no more, no less. Reason: At some point in the Sith Wars, the Sith gained control of the galaxy (as stated by Palpatine in Ep. III "
Once more, the Sith will rule the galaxy- and we shall have... peace"). It was around this time that the Sith got greedy and fought amongst themselves for power. The Old Sith Order was destroyed and their empire overthrown. The only surviving Sith was Darth Bane (whether he and possibly his apprentice killed off the rest of the Sith, or he was just merely the only one to survive). He fled and lived in secrecy plotting revenge against the Jedi and against the Republic. He took on an apprentice and made the rule of only two. This rule was made because if there was more than 2 Sith, they could get greedy and fight each other and destroy the whole order and if there was less than 2 Sith (meaning 1 for those of you who cant count) then that one Sith could get killed and there would be no more Sith.
Sith Rule #2- Established by Darth Bane, Some time after the last great Sith War: Sith must work in secrecy and become deceitful, clouding the minds of others and plotting revenge not through physical fighting, but through manipulation and through the force. Reason: Darth Bane realized that the Sith could not defeat the Jedi with an army of Sith, because then the Sith will fight each other (as seen in the Sith Wars). Now that there is the only 2 Sith rule, that problem (of fighting each other is solved... well sort of), but they how are the Sith to defeat the Jedi and conquer the galaxy with just 2 men??? Bane thought of this and realized this and decided that the fall of the Jedi would have to be done secretly, politically, and by betrayal, not by lightsaber fighting.
Sith Rule #3- Created since the existence of the Sith, re-institued with minor changes by Darth Bane (we assume): Betrayal of Masters and Apprentices.
Master's Job:
1. Choose apprentice
2. Train him well, but not enough to be stronger than yourself
3. Keep an eye out for anyone stronger or having potential to be stronger.
4. Find someone to kill your Apprentice before your Apprentice becomes stronger than you and/or gets another to help him kill you.
Apprentice's Job:
1. Train as hard as possible trying to become more powerful than your Master.
2. Keep eye out for someone who can or has potential to help you kill your Master.
3. Find someone to help you kill your Master before he kills you or finds someone to replace you.
4. If successful, you become the new Master and choose a new Apprentice.
Successful Master's:
1. Darth Bane?
2. Darth Bane's Apprentice?
3. Palpatine (PT against Dooku)
Unsuccessful Master's:
1. Darth Bane?
2. Darth Bane's Apprentice?
3. Plagueis (before PT, Palpatine)
4. Palpatine (OT Vader)
Successful Apprentice's:
1. Darth Bane's Apprentice?
2. Palpatine (before PT, Plagueis)
3. Vader (OT, Palpatine- even though he turned good he still was successful in fulfilling the Sith Philosophy. Plus he attempted to turn Luke in Ep. V which counts as an attempt even though it wasn't successful)
Unsuccessful Apprentice's:
1. Maul (didn't even make an effort)
2. Dooku (he tried to turn Obi-Wan to help him kill Palpatine, but this ultimately failed so we wont count it)
Sith Rule #4- Established at Unknown date, by unknown Sith: Loyalty- One must hold the utmost respect and loyalty to your Master or Apprentice. Only in secrecy and when you have found someone to help you and your Master or Apprentice cannot win. (ex: Palpatine telling Anakin to kill Dooku after they fight, Dooku looks all surprised that he was betrayed. Palpatine planned it the whole time, but didn't tell Dooku and now that Dooku cant do anything about it, he is allowed to reveal his plans. See my blog on why Dooku didn't say anything to Palpatine for info on why he didn't tell Anakin Palpatine was a Sith Lord after realizing he was betrayed.
