Unlimited Power! What power does he speak of?
Unlimited power! It is the quote Palpatine shouts as he finishes off Mace Windu in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, which is meant to imply that now that Anakin, the chosen one, is on his side, he and the Sith finally have unlimited power. The combined strengths of Palpatine's scheming, extensive knowledge, and sheer power, and Anakin's
potential to be the greatest Sith of all time is what he is what Palpatine is inferring when he makes this statement.
Personally, I believe there is a greater task that can be performed that demonstrates more power and makes you more power. If you've read my blog on the greatest Force-Users of all time (which I suggest you do before continuing reading this blog)
here, then you'll know that the people chosen all have one of two things in common; the power/ability to decline infinite power and/or the ability/power to fall from the Light Side to the Dark Side and be able to come back to the Light.
You see, falling to the Dark Side, especially when done so in a fast, and dramatic manner, gives you great power because it creates a dramatic affect on the Force (or as Kreia would call them
"echoes in the Force.")But falling from the Light and gaining that power takes a complete change in philosophy and it is very hard to come back to the Light after falling so far. Just like Yoda says
"once you strike down the Dark path... forever will it dominate your destiny..." (I won't continue with the quote because the rest is irrelevant to the point I'm trying to make).
Another task that demonstrates infinite power and can make you more powerful is the act of denying power, especially when offered in great quantities. Palpatine offered Luke infinite power, just like he had offered to Vader about 23 years earlier, but this time it included even more power with an even less chance of loosing it since the Empire was already formed and all the needed to be done was to crush the Rebellion, but Luke was able to deny it. He throws away his lightsaber and basically offers himself up as sacrifice rather than accept infinite power and join the Dark Side saying
"I am a Jedi, like my father before me..."
Both what Luke, as well as having the ability/willpower to fall far into darkness then have the willpower to return to the light, is a perfect example of true power... of "Infinite Power!"
I'd like to end this blog with a list of my fav. quotes from KOTOR II and the Star Wars movies that deal with the above topic...
"I am a Jedi... like my father before me."
"Know that there was once a Darth Traya. And that she cast aside that role, was exiled, and found a new purpose..."
"Revan was power. Staring into his eyes was like staring into the heart of the Force. Even then, you could see the Jedi he would slay etched on his soul."
"But perhaps now, they will see the truth at last. [..] He has brought truth, and you condemn it? The arrogance! You will not harm him. You will not harm him ever again. As you would pass judgment of him, I have come to pass judgment on you all."
"Never doubt what you have done. All your decisions have brought you to this point."
"It is such a quiet thing, to fall. But far more terrible is to admit it."
Vrook (Talking to the exile): You were broken.
Kreia (to herself off-screen): You were whole.
Kavar: You were deafened.
Kreia: You could hear.
Zez-kai Ell: You were blinded.
Kreia: At last, you saw...
