Anakin Skywalker- the Jesus Christ of the Star Wars Universe
Jesus of Nazareth was born in a meager stable in Bethlehem (in the Middle East near deserts) to a poor couple Joseph and Mary, who has been documented as a virgin. Likewise, Anakin Skywalker was born into poverty, as he was the son of a slave on the desert planet Tatooine. Also like Jesus, Anakin's mother has also been documented as a virgin as seen in this conversation with Qui-gon Jinn:

Qui-gon: ... who was his father?
Shmi Skywalker: There was no father... I carried him; I gave birth... I can't explain what happened...

From the Bible regarding the Virgin Mary:

"Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end." (Luke.1:30-32).

Just from the above paragraph and two text citations from Episode I and the Bible, we can already see how closely related the character of Anakin and Jesus Christ are related; yet the similarities grow even greater.

As we all know, Anakin sacrificed himself in Episode VI to save his son, by destroying the Emperor, which fatally wounded himself. A point I'd like to bring up really quick here is that I personally believe and I think all of you would probably agree with me when I say this, that Anakin, in destroying the Emperor and the Sith order for good, hoped to make amends for all of the evil deeds he had done in the past. He say this not only as a chance to save his son, but also as a way to repent for his sins he had done in the past.

Now the reason I bring this up, is because Jesus did a very similar thing through his own death. According to the Bible, Jesus sacrificed himself so that our sins may be forgiven and the gateway to Heaven would be opened. Hm... so Anakin sacrificed himself to make up for all of the bad deeds/sins, and Jesus sacrificed himself to make up for all of mankind's bad deeds/sins.

We can also go into the little details like Jesus performing miracles and Anakin performing great tasks and saving lives, as well as how similar their personalities were always trying to help others, but frankly this entry is long enough and I think you cal all think of that on your own so I will leave off with this segment here.

I have also provided you with a general outline below for you to follow:

Jesus and Anakin:

-Born of a virgin mother
-Born in meager surroundings
-Born into poverty
-Humble and good upbringing

Comparison:

-Anakin died to save Republic; Jesus died to save the world (both in a manner of speaking).
-Anakin had to die to save his spirit and redeem himself for the sins/bad deeds he did; Jesus had to die to save our spirits and redeem us and to forgive our sins.

I'd also like to briefly point out several other sci-fi characters from various other movies that were perhaps modeled after Jesus Christ and have similarities to Anakin. Such characters include "Donnie Darko" from the movie Donnie Darko, "Neo" from The Matrix, and "Superman" from Superman Returns.

The movie Donnie Darko was based off of the movie The Last Temptation of Christ, which is a movie about what would happen if Jesus had not died on the cross for us. The movie was subject to much criticism by the Catholic Church, as well as most other Christian churches because of how Jesus Christ is portrayed. In the movie, Jesus does not die on the cross and instead marries Mary Magdalene and they have several children. All is right in the world and Jesus is very happy until one day the entire world is coming to an end. I don't know the exact details because I myself have never seen the movie, but a brief summary was given to my by my older brother. Anyway Jesus' wife and children are killed and the whole city is in flames as the world is coming to an end, when Jesus finally understands. Instantly everything fades out and we see Jesus back on the cross and we see him accept his death on the cross. The whole movie was meant to show that Jesus realized that without his death (which was to meant to make amends for everyone's sins in the world), the world would come to an end. Knowing this, Jesus knows he MUST do the right thing and sacrifice himself so that the world may go on. Donnie Darko (representing Jesus) goes through a similar situation, as a man in a bunny costume, who represents the devil, wakes him up in the middle of the night and tells Donnie to come outside. Because Donnie leaves his room, an engine of a jet plane that would have crashed into his room moments later does not kill him. Life goes on for Donnie and he meets a nice girl and is having a great life even though the bunny man warned him shortly after saving him that in 7 days the world will end. Obviously Donnie thinks he is just going crazy and keeps seeing the bunny everywhere. To make a long story short, his girlfriend is killed and the world ends 7 days later just as the bunny man said it would. As Donnie watches the world get destroyed, he realizes that he should have done the right thing. Instantly, the scene changes and we see the engine of the plane crash into Donnie's bedroom, with him inside it, and we see him smile in his last moments, knowing that because of his death the world would live on. Anyway, the point is, Donnie, just like Jesus and Anakin, had to die so that sins would be forgiven and the world would be saved.

Neo in the Matrix is identified as the "Chosen One," much like Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars. Neo, although not born through a virgin mother, plays a role in being the worlds' Savior.

Superman, in his latest movie is also similar to Anakin and Jesus because he too sacrifices himself (although he actually winds up living at the end, which I thought they should have changed) so that the rest of the planet would not be destroyed.

It's interesting to see how characters in movies are based off of Jesus Christ, isn't it? Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed the blog and I'd like to thank all of you who stuck with it and kept on reading until the end. (I apologize for the length). Comments and questions are appreciated, but please no bashing. If you have additional questions you can e-mail me at LittleEagle2032@aol.com.

Merry CHRISTmas everyone and Happy Holidays!

P.S. I choose this picture, because it was the closest picture to this subject. If anyone can add more pics to Episode VI or knows who to talk to to add more pics to Episode VI, please do so! I really wanted a picture of the scene where Vader is dying in Lukes arms it really fit this blog, but the pics for Episode VI don't have anything close at all.

Interesting. Most interesting. I admit the comparisons are there. Some might say Vader killed the Emperor so he could take his spot. Meaning he wanted revenge for hisself. Not saying I agree or disagree with this, just pointing it out. Either way good blog.

There are lots of parallels bt Ani and Jesus Christ. But I'd say that this is proably because Lucas has incorporated elements that are universally typical of savior figures in the mythologies around the world. Christianity is not the only mythology to have a savior figure. Anyway, Jesus and Ani depart from each other in the the former did not turn into a massmurdering lunatic (okay, some of his followers eventually did, but let's leave that aside).

Good point! I agree with the pantless one too...

There's always a saviortype, It's one of the ingredients of a good story...
same goes for (forbidden) love....
Ad a little fighting, et voilà!

Now, all we have left.... is the I-don't-really-have-a-daddy issue
I don't see that one in a lot of story's:p

Yes, I've noticed this too. And here's another connection, obviously a product of my very weird mind: Jesus was Jewish; Judiasm sounds a lot like Jediism. Yes, I know I'm crazy. And here's an interesting little pic I found. Pity itcouldn't feature more PT characters, especially as, as this blog proves, Anakin should be in the center of that table.

First of all it is "exist". And as for your comment on the fan population, I'd say its 75% male. Maybe less, not too sure.

female Star Wars fans

This is almost as big a pet peeve to me as the stereotype of Star Wars fans as geeks. OF COURSE THERE ARE FEMALE FANS OUT THERE!!! Both genders watch the movies, and besides, one word: LILWA. You couldn't possibly have thought all those people drooling over Anakin's unnatural hottness were male.
