Did Dak get shot by a Walker or did the malfunction in fire control cause his death?

Dak: Oh, Luke we have a malfunction in fire control... I'll have to cut in the auxillary.
Luke: Just hang on... Hang on Dak! Get ready to fire that tow-cable!
[explosion is heard and Daks' side of the cockpit has electricity flow through it just before it catches fire]

Now I'm not saying that he died from the malfunction in fire control. I'm saying its possible. I'm sure it's not what George Lucas intended and I believe he died from the AT-AT shot, but isn't it interesting that maybe Dak killed himself because of the malfunction in fire control? What do you guys think?
