What is the purpose of Force-sensitivity? What is the purpose of Force-sensitives collectively and individually? This could lead into questions about the purpose of sapient beings too... non-Force-sensitives included I mean. Which leads me to another question, let us say that the Force is not sentient... by which I mean, it does not use sensory organs... but is the Force
sapient? In other words, does it have judgement, discernment or wisdom? The language of the Jedi and other characters make it seem so.
Let me postulate on the first two of my questions. The purpose of Force-sensitives is obviously intimately linked with the purpose of Force-sensitivity. So perhaps it is enough to ask what the purpose of Force-sensitivity is. Furthermore, the purpose of Force-sensitivity and Force-sensitives is intimately linked the purpose of sapient sentient beings. So that's a whole big ball of yarn there to unravel. I'm going to start with the base that the purpose of Force-sensitivity is to make individuals aware of the will of the Force. We know that this happens by way of midi-chlorians. Presumably individuals are made aware of the will of the Force and the currents of the Force for a reason. But what is that reason? Is it mere sport? Mere chance? Is there even a reason at all?
It would seem to me that the Force wishes to guide people in some way and so caused beings from all species and cultures to arise that were hyper-sensitive to its ebbs, flows and its "voice." I say hyper-sensitive because all beings are necessarily sensitive to the Force in lesser degrees and I will postulate that Force-sensitivity arose rarely in earlier times and grew in occurance in later times as beings began to depart from the way of the Force. As their minds grew increasingly cluttered with mundane matters and their lives grew increasingly cluttered by materialism and worldly pursuit beings arose who were more readily able to hear the Force's call and to act upon it. With this came extra-ordinary abilities as well.
It stands to reason that Force-sensitive individuals naturally gravitated towards guiding beings, but being mere mortals they could also fall prey to carnality. Some sought to guide beings altruistically while others sought to guide beings by way of control and enslavement. So naturally you got wise men, sages, prophets, religious leaders that cropped up from culture to culture, world to world, species to species that sought to guide their people back towards unity with the will of the Force. You also had tyrants arise who sought perhaps to exploit the teachings of prior Force-sensitive guides to seize power and control over people, perhaps with religious teachings already established. Perhaps they merely seized political control. Either way they sought to dominate the lives of beings and enslave them to their own wills. Others arose to combat such beings, while leading the oppressed from the darkness of oppression into the light of freedom.
Eventually as beings developed space-faring technology and eventually faster-than-light travel there became increasing galacticization(forgive me for my lame attempt as creating a galaxy-wide analog for globalization), and Force-sensitives and the traditions established by earlier Force-sensitives came in increasing contact. This ultimately led to the gatherings that resulted in the formation of the Jedi Order. The mortal frailty that Force-sensitives were vulnerable to in aeons past was still with the Jedi, which led to the first dark Jedi and eventually to the Dark Lords of the Sith and the Sith Order.
That is my speculation of the history of Force-sensitivity in the GFFA. Now, let us return to the question at hand. What is the purpose of Force-sensitivity and Force-sensitives?
This question not only begs answers to itself, but it causes other questions to arise as well. Questions already mentioned. What is the purpose of sapient sentient beings? And, is the Force itself sapient?
The Jedi certainly seem to think the Force is possessed of will and subtlely seeks to enact that will by way of Force-sensitive beings. As such they have chosen to serve the will of the Force. So it seems that the Force is indeed sapeint, possessed of discernment to some degree higher than that which mortal beings. Others have speculated that the Force is but a natural process, a stream or river flowing a particular direction with no awareness what so ever. Both Jedi and Sith have held both views of the Force.
I've run out of coherent thoughts on this topic, hopefully I will return to it soon.
