Star Wars in 2008
2007 is coming to a close. It was a big year for Star Wars. The franchise turned 30, the Legacy of the Force series has taken off. Shows such as Robot Chicken and Family Guy have parodied Star Wars in tribute. It was a good year.

2008 is just around the corner. It promises to be a big year for the saga as well. Here are some of the events I'm looking forward to:

1. The conclusion of Legacy of the Force. This series isn't everyone's favorite, but I'm loving it. In my opinion, every novel has been good. The series will come to a conclusion by mid-year, and it will likely signal the end of the story for Han, Luke, and Leia. I have no idea what their ultimate fate will be, but I believe Star Wars will likely shift its focus to the next generation of heroes after Legacy's completion.

2. The Force Unleashed. This was supposed to be the Star Wars event of 2007. However, it got delayed until 2008. If you remember Shadows of the Empire, then you have some idea of what to expect for The Force Unleashed. There will be a game, a novel, action figures, and a comic to tell the story. It has been promised as the next major chapter in the Star Wars saga.

3. The Clone Wars. With a little luck, The Clone Wars will actually make it to TV this year. I suspect most readers are familiar with this series. LucasFilm has created an animated series to tell the story of the Clone Wars using the latest computer technology. From what I've seen the quality is similar to that of Pixar's products. I'm hoping this show goes live by this summer, but I'd settle for fall.

4. The Announcement of the next publisher of Star Wars Novels. The agreement with Del Rey to produce Star Wars novels expired this year. LucasArts has been shopping the franchise, and it is rumored they have a new publisher lined up. A new publisher may mean new authors to pen the franchise. I'm anxious to see where the saga goes in 2008 and beyond.

5. Announcements on the new Live Action TV series. Once the Clone Wars are established on television, we should start getting more information on the live action series. So far, we know the series will take place between Episode III and IV. It will focus on minor characters in the Star Wars universe. There has been a suggestion that Lucas wants to make each show an hour long, and that each show will tell a new story. I'd love to have some more concrete details.

There are other Star Wars developments coming in 2008. There will be other novels, and the Legacy comic series will continue. It should be a huge year, and I can't wait.

One other Lucas related thing I'd throw in there that I'm looking forward to: Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls will be here in time for summer. I'm really anxoius for that.
