R2-D2 vs. Yoda
A little late night blogging...

I was watching The Empire Strikes Back this evening. I've discovered that having seen the prequels, you end up then viewing the original movies in a different light.

Tonight, the scene where Yoda meets Luke and R2 caught my attention. Yoda has not revealed his identity and is kind of testing and feeling out Luke. In exchange for his services in helping to find "Yoda," Yoda decides to help himself to one of Luke's possessions. He settles on the lamp. Luke asks for it back, and the R2 attempts to snatch it from Yoda.

What do you think Yoda and R2 were thinking? They should recognize each other. They encountered each other at the end of Revenge of the Sith. R2 did not get a memory wipe like C-3P0. Yoda may not recognize R2 as there are thousands of similar astromech droids running around the galaxy.

Sure, this is likely a continuity problem. However, if you watch the scene and look at Yoda's expression after beating R2 with the stick and how quickly R2 gives up, I can't help but wonder, with my prequel glasses on, if perhaps they were having a little fun with each other at Luke's expense.
