What's in a name
I know there was a blog about the names we choose before. I'm here to tell you where I got my userid.

My given name is Dawn. I don't like it. I never disliked it enough to change it, but I always wished I had a name that could be "longer" for formal occasions, or shorter for my friends. But that's it. Dawn.

It bars me for the most part of making certain comments that are in our language. I never say, for instance, that "it just dawned on me." To me, that's as odd as saying "it just freded on me." It doesn't make sense.

Dawn is also a very specific name from an age standpoint. I've never met a Dawn that wasn't born within two years of me, plus or minus. I graduated with 6 other Dawns in a class of 186.

FWIW, all of our children have "long form" and "short form" names.

Now, the solstice part is easy. Summer solstice is my birthday. I'm no polytheist, but it makes sense to recognise my birthday, since it falls on what is to most an obscure "holiday," if it can even be called that.

My mom used to always say "Dawn was born on the longest day of the year. It sure was for me :)"

So, here I am. Solsticedawn.

Cool. My name has a far less interesting story...

My mom wanted to call me Dustin.

My dad and my brother wanted to call me Vincent.

My mom was outvoted. The end.

My SW.com name, however, isn't what I had wanted it to be. For some reason, the first time I logged in, it automatically gave me a name by putting 'jedi' in front of my email address, 'vnsnator'. I have no idea why and I don't like it, but I can't change it now, so I just deal with it.

Eh, I don't like my name, either. And, really, my name doesn't have a story. I think my parents named me for the meaning: worthy of love, or something like that. It's just a plain name.. Amanda. Ick. It just doesn't fit me.

I'd prefer to be named Bob over Amanda.

I'd prefer to be named Bob over Amanda.

Me too. Of course, I'm a guy, so I guess that doesn't really count...

Amanda's a fine name. I didn't like my name for a long time, either- but I eventually tapped into my inner 'Italian Stallion' and got used to it. ;)

My name has pretty much become a part of my cultural identity, now. My Italian friends and family have taken to calling 'Vinny', and quite honestly, I kinda like that. Maybe if you find yourself a worthwhile nickname?

Ori'vor'e!

When I was in high school, some of my friends called me "Sunset."

My dad wanted to name me "Lisa." He was at Ft. Knox for OCS the day I was born. We see who won that one.

I vowed long ago that the next person that sang "Delta Dawn" to me was going to get beat up. Lucky for them, no one else has tried it. I only wish I had a Verp to brandish at them ]:)

I can relate.

My given name is Matthew (but I go by Matt), Last name Smith. (Nice, Simple, Easy to remember)
There were 9 other Matthews in my senior class, 2 of which were also Smiths, 5 more whose last name started with S.

Unfortunately, I came first alphabetically by middle initial, so I was the first pulled out of class for anything the others did.

They finally got our yearbook pictures right senior year.

As for my screen name, Muh is a nickname given to me as an early teen, I got Darth from some movie...

It's always interesting to hear how people come up with their names. :)

I have no idea why and I don't like it, but I can't change it now, so I just deal with it.
Ah, how like life... The name is not as important as the person behind it - good attitude.

Happy birthday to you.

I have the ultimate formal/informal name. I won't say what it is because I'm coy like that (and because I already have The Stooge e-stalking me :p ), but it is said that everyone knows someone called [informal variant of my name].

I follow, greenandwhitejedi. I know several people with the name that is likely your given name.

Sorry about the e-stalking. That's just an odd thing to me.

Is it Bob? :p

My screen name came upbecause when i was ten, I got a 3d puzzle artoo. I usually placed it behind my chair as I played rouge squadron on my pc, thus I started going by Andy Luke. I got the title of jedi master some time ago and Skywalker just happens to be the last name of my nickname:p

Happy B-Day

Amanda's a fine name.

Well, thanks. I appreciate that. And Vincent isn't so bad, either. You don't hear it that often int the small town of Ocala, so its a pleasant change from hearing Steven, Michael, Brad, or Kyle every day.

I realise this blog is more about screen names than actual names, but there I was blabbing about me real life moniker. Unfortunately there's not much to tell about Green and White Jedi: Jedi are all, like, Star Warsy and stuff. Plus they never get locked out, even if they lose their keys. As for the rest...well, there are only so many (relatively) well-known instances of those colours employed in combination. Ooh, I'm such a tease.

Clue No. 1: Google won't help, but a popular info database might.

I immediately think "Big Ten school." I could be way off, of course.

That or you mean the Insurance corporation of British Columbia. The Canadian spelling tipped me off.

Nope. I guess you'll never know. Until, at least, I get that accursed Hyperspace account. I just don't think HS is a very good deal for those living outside America, though - no Insider Magazine for one.

No, it isn't a good deal for foreign addresses.

That's why you must move to the US ]:) Of course, good luck getting citizenship. They've gotten very dorky with that lately.

Dorky is a good word. It gets past all the filters, anyway. Anything else I would use would get bleeped out for sure. Have you seen "A Fish Called Wanda?" The USCIS can make me sound like Kevin Kline in that movie.

We've adopted internationally twice, you see.

so its a pleasant change from hearing Steven, Michael, Brad, or Kyle every day.

I wouldn't say Brad. No, not Brad. The only Brad I know of is Brad Pitt. I'd actaully rather be named Steven than my name now.

Well, here it goes

*drumroll*

My real name is.........Scott.

I dislike it so much! But I guess I'll have to live with it.
