I thought I'd use my posts here at the Artist Multi-Blog to spotlight some of the Star Wars artists that influenced me when I was just a player in the fan art world. I'm omitting any artists I now consider my peers among the "Lucasfilm-approved" artists, although there are certainly many people in that group that I admire and who continue to influence me and my work.
The first artist I want to talk about is my favorite Star Wars comic book penciller . . .
Cynthia Martin
I'm betting not many of you have heard of her, as she worked on the original
Marvel Comics Star Wars title during its waning years in the mid-80s. But she is my favorite penciller to work in the GFFA, and she put her signature on my favorite EU character,
The Dark lady Lumiya. Her clean lines and wonderful
sense of movement during action scenes set her apart from other Star wars artists of the time, and
the way she drew Princess Leia made me wish I were a certain former smuggler.
Click here to see some original, uncolored pages from Ms. Martin's run on the Marvel Comics Star Wars series.
I've tried to find out what she is doing now, but my Googling efforts turn up little in that area. If anyone knows what Ms. Martin is currently working on (if anything), please let me know.
Thanks for reading!
