 | Fallen Angel #17, Klingons: Blood Will Tell #2, TNG: The Space Between #5 Previews |
IDW has recently posted a preview at their website of my art for issue #17 of Fallen Angel written by Peter David (who I previously collaborated with on Spike Vs. Dracula). I'm splitting the art chores on pages for this issue with guest artist Billy Tucci, creator of Shi (who also guest stars in this issue). Head on over to IDW.com and check out this update for a sneak preview of my pages and a look at the variant cover artwork Billy and I created for this issue featuring the Fallen Angel and Shi together.
I recently completed the cover art for IDW's two new Star Trek series - Klingons: Blood Will Tell and The Next Generation: The Space Between . You can view previews of my cover art for issue #2 of the Klingon series (which ties into the classic Star Trek: The Original Series episode "The Trouble with Tribbles") and the cover for #5 of the TNG series in my MySpace blog.
I'm also currently working with my friend and frequent collaborator Brian Miller on my new artwork to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars for Celebration IV this May in Los Angeles. Keep your eyes peeled for my next Mysapce blog update sometime this weekend for a sneak preview of this limited edition print artwork celebrating Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

Joe - you are, without doubt, amazingly talented. & while I can appreciate that talent (I'm a late bloomer regarding "Angel" - I watch it as I'm preparing for another day of battle in the inevitable and unending work week- justice, I seek - I work in a courthouse of seeking said justice) to see a portion of that talent devoted to Star Trek - even though Gene Rodenberry was and continues to be an incredible visionary and keeper of the peace - I find this devotion disturbing............and not in any way soothing.

and it's not Star Wars snobbery.......I can appreciate and value, a great deal, the wisdom and soothsaying of Mr. Rodenberry...but....as a purist, so to speak, I could never devote any amount of time to an "enterprise" that unintentionally seeks greater glory at the expense of the true Force.
Need I say more?

I suppose if I had my choice, I'd make a living *only* illustrating Star Wars. Realistically, I'm unable to do so for a few reasons - 1) I'm not so talented or fortunate that publishers will automatically give me Star Wars assignments when I ask for them. There are actually many, many other illustrators out there who can do a better job at it than I can (though maybe not as many that have has much heart for it that I do) and who have earned the right participate in those projects. 2) As a self employed freelance illustrator I've got to eat and pay bills and sometimes I go where the opportunities take me (though at this stage in my career I do get to pick and choose a little bit more than I used to).

Wow... you're just kidding, right?
If not, here's the deal... Lucas Online set up this Official Star Wars Artists Multiblog as place for creators like me to share info on any of our current projects with the fans and friends we have made through our association with Star Wars. In fact, I encourage some of the other Star Wars artists on the VIP list to share news more often about their other projects, Star Wars or otherwise. I'm a fan too and love hearing what these talented individuals are up to.

For the record, I love Star Trek, but I'll always *love* Star Wars more. That much should be obvious after ten years of regularly illustrating for the saga when I could have been chasing down work with other properties. Though, as an artist I'm very much interested in challenging myself and growing creatively. I always look forward to expanding my horizons beyond to just what I'm familiar or only comfortable with.
In the meantime I'm just very lucky to be drawing comic books, sci-fi, etc. in general for a living and getting paid to do it. And I always appreciate the support from Star Wars fans, Star Trek fans, sci-fi fans, artwork fans, and anyone interested in what I'm doing regardless.

Whoo-Hoo! More amazing and just stupendous work from the gifted *Joe Corroney *
"I think I love you now, 'cause anything with A New Hope in it means LUKE!!" LOL! Come on now, Mina, it's the 30th year celebration for "Lukeness sake" Luke is a definite must.
"I'm not so talented or fortunate that publishers will automatically give me Star Wars assignments when I ask for them." Exsquee me? Says who? tsk, tsk, " You are by far, the best choice for the job." Ok, I really hope I got Palpatine's dialogue right,
Awesome work, Joe, as always.
