Star Wars is Forever!

Official Hyperspace President Duties
Well San Diego Comic Con has come and gone. What an exciting trip this year! Despite what everyone thinks, this was only my 2nd trip to SDCC, my first being in 2003. I was dissapointed that Lucasfilm did not have their grand pavillion up as the central hub for everything and anything Star Wars this year. Just my luck that I don't attend for the two years they did :-P I hear it will return in full glory next year, something about an anniversary or something along those line? ;)

I arrived on Wednesday around 9:45AM PST and met up with Anne & Chris from Rebelscum.com. We caught a cab over to the convention center to check it all out. Anne was there to assist Official Pix with their booth that weekend so me and Chris gladly tagged along.

Before we knew what hit us, it was 6:00PM and "Preview" night was in full effect. Out of no where it seemed, 40,000 fans from across all walks of life joined the party to line up, and buy exclusives early, plus check out and get a taste of what they'd soon be back to enjoy a full day of starting the very next morning. This was my first preview night, and I've got to say it was like any other normal day it seemed, PACKED!

Thursday was more of the same, doors opened at 10:00AM I believe and before they even did there was a line at the Hasbro booth! Security tried several times to disperse the line, but people would reform it up soon as they went on their way. I almost wish these toy companies would sell their product out in the lobby sometimes. In the lobby you can have a line as long if not longer than a football field! Why they insist on doing it inside where it wraps around their own booth so you can't even get into it! Plus the line is never single file so the crowd actually extends into the isleway, clogging up passage for the few passing through to perhaps go get a hotdog.

Thursday night I was asked by Steve Sansweet to help present at the Fan Film awards. We actually did a dry run of this earlier in the evening, but by the time I got onstage in front of 4200 people I was a bit nervous as you can imagine. I presented the award for Best Comedy which went to "Sith'd", a parody of the hit TV show "Punk'd". If you haven;t seen this film, go here now and check it out! You'll know why Brian Silva and his team won after checking it out!

Friday was Star Wars day! The Hasbro and Dark Horse presentations were at the SAME TIME! C'mon guys, you know better than that! I chose the Dark Horse panel because, well it is a Comic Book convention right!? Dark Horse is celebrating their 20th anniversary this year. It was amazing to be in a room full of so many creative people who love doing what they do. I hope they never lose the Star Wars license!

The day wrapped up with the Star Wars Spectacular hosted by none other than Steve Sansweet. By now everyone knows the coolest thing shown was the footage of the next gen game coming from LucasArts in 2007. I'm not a huge gamer, but if I can run around using the Force like those guys did, heck I'll buy another system for sure! Steve mentioned several other key items like Original trilogy on DVD coming September 12th, Celebration IV, Celebration Europe, and showed off a few new logos that we'll be seeing much more of next year. I for one was really bummed we didn't get a sneak peek at any of the animated television series, but Steve promised us a glimpse at C-IV, so get ready to buy your tickets!

Saturday morning I awoke to the Star Wars Fan Club Breakfast! Where else can you get together with 200 other Star Wars fans for a meal, a goody bag, free action figure and a great Star Wars pep talk!? Oh yeah there was a raffle too! I was pulling tickets for prizes with Mary Franklin when she said, just onne more, let's draw a ticket for the Obi-Wan cookie jar. Ok, no problem right? I turned my head, swirled the tickets around for a good pull and guess what, I pulled my own ticket! I couldn't belive it at first and offered to pull again, but after hearing several people yell "Keep it!" I was more than happy about a new place to hide my cookies at home ;)

Sunday I had to leave at noon so that meant getting to the airport early in order to make it through the 200+ person line trying to get through security. Overall I had a great time and appreciate everyon who helped me get there.

To everyone I met and offered up their "congrats!", Thank you for being so kind and supportive, I truly appreciate it. I hope we'll all be together again real soon at Celebration IV in Los Angeles!

Great report to the people, Mr. President! It was almost like being there, and without standing in line ;

No one else is going to say this, but I thought Sith'd was horrible... Note to crowd: Don't bother to jump all over me for it, I just hated it and that's my opinion... no one cares what I think...

Saturday morning I awoke to the Star Wars Fan Club Breakfast!

Hey, can we do that at C-IV?

Obi-Wan cookie jar

Now I'm jealous, even though I have an original R2-D2 cookie jar... B-)

Wow, that doesn't happen too often, I guess it was the will of the Force! :D

Thanks Dustin!

Oh One question.... If Sith'd got Best Comedy. Any Idea which got Audience Choice? (Or Better yet Lucas's Pick?)

Im Gunning for Pitching Lucas, its the best Fan Film Ive seen... But Sith'd was really good

You're not going to believe it, but Pitching Lucas made Fan Film history by grabbing both awards ! ! !

Senor el presidente....

First off, so glad you won, you got my vote (and Lightsabre's). And most gratified to see myself on your blog roll.
But the big question, the question of questions...will you be at Celebration Europe?
Speaking as a True Brit (to almost steal from the Duke) it would only be fitting to see you over here. I need to introduce you to all the completely non-existant stereotypes that Americans have about the UK, like warm beer, boiled meat and bad teeth, that clearly do not exist in the land of opportunity...

Yes, as my president you cast a long shadow across fandom, and certainly one that stretches across the atlantic. I mean, if Concorde could traverse the pond in 3 hours, it would be little effort for you.
And besides, I owe you a pint for the excellent interview you did with us earlier in the year.
Anyhow, with luck I shall be reasonably involved with Celebration Europe, so perhaps we shall have chance to chat.

Short, sweet, succinct and to the point.
But the answer was just what we were hoping for!
Cheers
