Hi guys, it's been a while, but with me helping Nathan Butler out with some dates for the upcoming Essential Atlas (how cool is THAT?), and with me trying to figure out a new way to get my timeline online (which will commence as soon as I get the Atlas, which makes it easier to calculate hyperspace travel times, I never got around to publishing a new list... But do not fear, here's the latest Upcoming Books & Comics schedule, factual as of July 30, 2009!!!. For a more accurate list (updated on a daily basis, if needed), check out my
website's list...
Here we go!!!

BFI Film Classics: Star Wars
UK book (non-fiction): written by Will Brooker
paperback (96 pages), Palgrave, ISBN 1-8445-7277-3, coverprice £ 9.99/$ 14.95
from Previews # 249, June 2009: Will Brooker's illuminating study takes issue with many commonly held ideas about Star Wars. He provides a close cinematic analysis, carefully examining its shots, editing, sound, design, cinematography, and performances. Brooker argues that Star Wars is a continuation of Lúcas' experiments with sounds and image, revealing Lucas's contradictory desires for the total order and control of the Empire, and, on the other hand, for the raw energy and creative improvisations of the Rebels. Though at first Star Wars seems a simple fairy tale, it becomes far more complex when we realize that the director is rooting for both sides, creating a tension that unsettles the saga as a whole and illuminates new sides of Lucas's masterpiece.
from Amazon UK: Offers an analysis of "Star Wars" as a film and argues that it represented a continuation rather than a departure from director George Lucas' early, experimental work. This title argues that Lucas is drawn both to the order and control of the Empire, and the energy and creativity of the Rebels.

US comic: written by Mick Harrison, pencils and cover by Douglas Wheatley
comic (40 pages), Dark Horse Comics, coverprice $ 2.99
from starwars.com: The miasma of the dark times following the rise of the Empire entangles both the high and the low. Darth Vader comes to a realization about how short his future might be if he doesn't follow his master's every command.
While half a galaxy away, Dass Jennir, who has kept his Jedi past a secret from his employer, discovers that his employer hasn't been completely honest with him, either. The job Jennir has been hired to do is only part of what needs to be done, and a Jedi never leaves a job half-finished -- even if it means fighting ten-to-one odds!
editor Randy Stradley at the Dark Horse message boards (July 28, 2009): Sorry there were problems - on several fronts - getting this issue to print. I just marked final corrections this morning, but because of illnesses and Comic-Con, our Production department is understaff, and it won't be until later this week that corrections can be made. I apologize for the delay. We're working as fast as we can!
Star Wars Roleplaying Game: Dawn of Defiance Campaign Part 10: Jaws of the Sarlacc
US RPG campaign: : written by Rodney Thompson, designed by Rodney Thompson
PDF-file, Wizards of the Coast, download free
adventure outline (contains spoilers for non-Gamemasters!): Lady Alya's allies in the Deep Core track Draco to the planet Byss, where the Sarlacc Project is under construction. The time has come to strike-if the Super Star Destroyer prototype isn't destroyed now, it will soon be fully armed and operational. Lady Alya and Senator Organa have hatched a plan to destroy the prototype, and the heroes will lead the attack. While the noblewoman's fleet of smugglers and pirates draw the Imperial defenses away from the prototype, the heroes board a defensive space station and seize control of it. They deactivate the station's weapons, which allows a small strike force of starfighters to make a microjump close to the prototype ship.
Joining the strike force in ships of their own, the heroes fly inside the Super Star Destroyer prototype. Among the strike force pilots are various characters who have helped the heroes during the campaign, including the captain of the Resurgence and a space transport pilot hired by Bail Organa. Pursued by TIE Fighters and with only a limited amount of time in which the pirate fleet can hold off the planetary defenses, the heroes fly to the center of the ship and destroy its power core. The heroes must race out of the collapsing vessel and make the jump to hyperspace before they are consumed by the massive explosion.
With the Sarlacc Project destroyed, the galaxy is free of at least one large threat (for now), and others across many worlds take note of the heroes' accomplishment. They have struck the first major blow against the Empire, laying the groundwork for the foundation of the Rebel Alliance.

Star Wars: Dark Times: Blue Harvest # 0 (confirmed by the Diamond shipping list)
US comic: written by Mick Harrison, pencils and cover by Douglas Wheatley
comic (40 pages), Dark Horse Comics, coverprice $ 2.99
solicitation copy: Former Jedi Dass Jennir accepts a job that puts him on a collision course with not one, but two deadly outlaw gangs!
For the first time in print, here are the introductory chapters to "Blue Harvest" from MySpace Dark Horse Presents. The sixteen pages of story are presented two ways: first in color as they appeared online, and again in their raw, penciled beauty.
As fans of Dark Times know, Douglas Wheatley's art is rich with detail, and Dark Horse has received many requests to reproduce the art in its original form.
from the Dark Horse forums by editor Randy Stradley (January 12, 2009): While many posters (and not just here) have pestered us to print the online story as a comic, many people have been asking for Doug to publish some of his pencil drawings without colors. So, just as soon as Myspace's period of exclusivity is over, we'll be publishing Dark Times "Blue Harvest" #0 -- the online story in glorious black-and-white.
Since there are only sixteen pages of story, we'll pack the rest of the issue out with some of Doug's sketches and character designs that would otherwise never bee seen.

This series is set during the New Jedi Order, approximately twenty-five years after the Battle of Yavin. The Jedi, and the galaxy, are facing their first real threat since the Sith were defeated: an invasion of hostile warriors called the Yuuzhan Vong!

Star Wars Insider # 87 (UK-version of US # 111)
UK magazine: edited by Jonathan Wilkinson
magazine (86 pages), Titan Magazines
from Star Wars Insider # 110: Join us next issue when Kenny Baker beeps exclusively about all things R2-D2.
Corey Burton - the man behind the voice of Count Dooku, Cad Bane, and Ziro the Hutt on why bad guys have all the fun!
Kevin Kiner - The composer of Star Wars: The Clone Wars talks about the challenges of scoring Star Wars for television!
Classic Props! - we unearth some rare treasures from the Lucasfilm Archive with a special report from the A Musical Journey exhibition!
Versus! - it's the battle of the Bounty Hunters as new contender Cad Bane trades blows with reigning champ Boba Fett!
from starwars.com (July 16, 2009): The latest issue of Star Wars Insider -- the official Star Wars magazine published by Titan -- arrives in the thick of San Diego Comic-Con International excitement. Bounty hunters loom large on both covers -- the standard newsstand edition features Cad Bane while the specialty and comics store edition features Aurra Sing. Inside the issue is a fantastic mix of news and features, including interviews with composer Kevin Kiner, actress Mercedes Ngoh (Rystáll from Return of the Jedi), and the madcap talent behind Robot Chicken -- Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, with Breckin Meyer, Donald Faison and Abe Benrubi. This issue also features an exclusive first look at The Essential Star Wars Atlas, inside the Bradford Exchange's Star Wars Village Collection, and a celebration of retro R2-D2 collectibles.
Among the interviews featured in this issue is one with classic Star Wars star, Kenny Baker. Born in Birmingham, U.K, Baker will celebrate his 75th birthday later this year along with his 59th year in show business.
Also interviewed in this issue is veteran voiceover actor Corey Burton. His voice has been heard in hundreds of cartoons, commercials, and video games, but when Star Wars Insider caught up with him recently, we had to take exception when he humbly dismissed himself as, "Just an old-time funny voice guy." To fans of Star Wars, Burton is much more than that. It's not just because Burton provides the voice of the villainous Count Dooku in the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV series; that alone would be impressive enough. And it;s also not simply because he has created the voices for two more of The Clone Wars' most distinctive bad guys -- Cad Bane and Ziro the Hutt -- along with a number of minor characters along the way.

Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi: Abyss (Book 3 of 9)
US book (fiction): written by Troy Denning
hardcover, Del Rey, ISBN 0-345-50918-8, coverprice $ 25.00
from randomhouse.com: Following a trail of clues across the galaxy, Luke Skywalker continues his quest to find the reasons behind Jacen Solo's dark downfall and to win redemption for the Jedi Order. Sojourning among the mysterious Aing-Tii monks has left Luke and his son Ben with no real answers, only the suspicion that the revelations they seek lie in the forbidden reaches of the distant Maw Cluster. There, hidden from the galaxy in a labyrinth of black holes, dwell the Mind Walkers: those whose power to transcend their bodies and be one with the Force is as seductive and intoxicating as it is potentially fatal. But it may be Luke's only path to the truth.
Meanwhile, on Coruscant, the war of wills between Galactic Alliance Chief of State Natasi Daala and the Jedi Order is escalating. Outraged over the carbonite freezing of young Jedi Knights Valin and Jysella Horn after their inexplicable mental breakdowns, the Jedi are determined to defy Daala's martial tactics, override Council Master Kenth Hamner's wavering leadership, and deal on their own terms with the epidemic of madness preying on their ranks. As Han and Leia Solo, along with their daughter Jaina, join the fight to protect more stricken Knights from arrest, Jedi healers race to find a cure for the rapidly spreading affliction. But none of them realize the blaster barrel is already swinging in their direction-and Chief Daala is about to pull the trigger.
Nor do Luke and Ben, deep in the Maw Cluster and pushing their Force abilities beyond known limits, realize how close they are-to the Sith strike squad bent on exterminating the Skywalkers, to a nexus of dark-side energy unprecedented in its power and its hunger, and to an explosive confrontation between opposing wielders of the Force from which only one Master-good or evil-can emerge alive.
backcover text from starwars.com (April 29, 2009): Peace is the way of the Jedi. But with deadly enemies on every side, war may be the only way out.
jacket summary from starwars.com (March 5, 2009): Tensions are heightening across the galaxy as more Jedi Knights seemingly go insane and anti-Jedi sentiment, fed by fear and mistrust, spreads from world to world. Han and Leia Solo have their hands full helping the Jedi Order keep the affected Knights out of the grip of government security -- whose only solution is to freeze the offenders in carbonite.
Meanwhile, Luke Skywalker and his son, Ben, arrive in the mysterious part of space called the Maw, in search of more clues to whatever it was that caused Jacen Solo's fall to the dark side. It is here, in the Maw, that they will confront the members of a lost Sith tribe who are determined to kill Luke. And it is here, too, where Ben will meet the Force ghost of his dead mother, Mara Jade.
synopsis (from Amazon.co.uk): Luke and Ben Skywalker arrive in the mysterious part of space called The Maw in search of more clues as to what caused Jacen Solo's downfall into the dark side. But they are not the only ones exploring The Maw: a Sith Master and her apprentice arrive there, too, having followed the delinquent ancient Sith ship found by Ben in The Legacy of the Force - and they're thrilled to find Luke there, because they are determined to kill him. But there's another powerful being hiding in The Maw. It's enormously strong, purely evil, and it has its own plans for Luke Skywalker...

US book (fiction): written by Sean Williams
paperback (320 pages), Del Rey, ISBN 0-345-50285-X, coverprice $ 7.99
from amazon.com: "The Sith always betray one another... I'm sure you'll learn that soon enough.
The overthrow of the Republic is complete. The Separatist forces have been smashed, the Jedi Council nearly decimated, and the rest of the Order all but destroyed. Now absolute power rests in the iron fist of Darth Sidious-the cunning Sith lord better known as the former Senator, now Emperor, Palpatine. But more remains to be done. Pockets of resistance in the galaxy must still be defeated and missing Jedi accounted for . . . and dealt with. These crucial tasks fall to the Emperor's ruthless enforcer, Darth Vader. In turn, the Dark Lord has groomed a lethal apprentice entrusted with a top-secret mission: to comb the galaxy and dispatch the last of his masters' enemies, thereby punctuating the dark side's victory with the Jedi's doom.
Since childhood, Vader's nameless agent has known only the cold, mercenary creed of the Sith. His past is a void; his present, the carrying out of his deadly orders. But his future beckons like a glistening black jewel with the ultimate promise: to stand beside the only father he has ever known, with the galaxy at their feet. It is a destiny he can realize only by rising to the greatest challenge of his discipleship: destroying Emperor Palpatine.
The apprentice's journeys will take him across the far reaches of the galaxy, from the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk to the junkyard planet of Raxus Prime. On these missions, the young Sith acolyte will forge an unlikely alliance with a ruined Jedi Master seeking redemption and wrestle with forbidden feelings for his beautiful comrade, Juno Eclipse. And he will be tested as never before-by shattering revelations that strike at the very heart of all he believes and stir within him long-forgotten hopes of reclaiming his name . . . and changing his destiny.

Star Wars: Frames will be strictly limited to 1,138 copies (in tribute to Lucas's first feature-length film, THX 1138) and will be encased in a wood-inlaid box (24" long x 13" high x 15" wide) adorned by two embossed medallions (6.75" round) -- representing Jedi Master Yoda and Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader. The box will contain two chambers that correspond to the first and second Star Wars trilogies, which will house the six volumes. Each of these numbered limited editions will also contain a portfolio case with a bookplate signed by George Lucas.
More than 230 film frames correspond to each epic Star Wars film: The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi, totaling 1,416 images. Lucas selected each image from over a million possible frames.
A truly unprecedented publishing event, Star Wars: Frames is a dynamic undertaking that offers not only one of the most limited Star Wars products to date, boldly illustrating Lucas's 30-year vision and passion for the Star Wars Saga, offering unmatched depth and reflection into his creative process.
"This deeply personal project sets itself apart from any other publication on George Lucas's work in that it contains his frames: shots he conceptualized and crafted, unadulterated and rendered as individual works of art," said Raoul Goff, publisher & CEO of Palace Publishing Group. "Each page, or frame, presents a stunning work of beauty that speaks to the creative spirit, vision, and peerless imagination of a cinematic master."
Star Wars: Frames presents a mesmerizing blend of photography and cinema -- preserving the glorious widescreen aspect ratio of the movies, presented as never before on large-format pages with more than 1,400 original images printed with the highest production values available in bookmaking.
This landmark collection of images represents a unique opportunity for collectors and cinéphiles to obtain a superbly crafted artifact of the Star Wars epics. Star Wars: Frames will be available through Insight Editions and their exclusive online retail partner Sideshow Collectibles. Beginning in July, Sideshow will accept preorders through February 2009 at www.sideshowtoy.com/starwarsframes, where preview information will be posted along with details and commentary on the historic making of the project. In addition, a sample copy of Star Wars: Frames will be on display at this year's San Diego Comic-Con from July 24 through 27.

from IGN.com (June 2, 2009): The new Clone Wars game from Lucasarts, a third-person action title, will be set sometime between the first and second seasons of the animated TV show, tossing you into an original story against a new villain Kul Teska. Playing as Jedi heroes like Anakin Skywalker, Obi Wan Kenobi, or Mace Windu, you'll be able to battle droids using lightsabers and powers like force pushing. We didn't get an opportunity to play, but we were told the controls are meant to be simple and accessible to allow anyone of any age range to play.
In total there'll be 8 playable Jedi, and one of the more interesting abilities was called 'droid jacking,' where a Jedi character can jump up on top of a droid and slam their lightsaber through the victim's head. By doing this the Jedi effectively gains control of the droid, allowing them to move around and cause damage while the period of control lasts. This works regardless of what type of droid you target, so it should help make the gameplay feel more varied, particularly if you decide to take advantage of the two-player drop-in, drop-out cooperative gameplay. In Jedi stages you'll also find some simplistic puzzles to be solved using a variety of powers.
If you feel like experiencing something a little different, it's also possible to play as one of 10 clone characters. These guys have a different style and abilities, focusing mostly on utilizing weaponry strewn throughout the stage. They can fire blasters, toss thermal detonators, and pick up special weapons in certain spots like a minigun to wipe out large groups of foes, or rocket launchers. Jetpacks also factor into the combat, letting you float around for a little while above the fray.
Also popping up during levels will be instant challenges, which trigger at certain points during stages. If you enter you'll compete against squadmates in scenarios like battles and races for high scores. In the demo we were given, the visuals looked bright and cartoony and the action fast. The Jedi stage was set on in an old mining facility and for the clone mission we were on a planet in the Naboo system with an acidic atmosphere. In all players can expect 30 unique missions to battle through when the game ships this September for a ton of platforms.
We only saw the console version, so no word on the DS version. According to an official release, though, that game will feature some kind of touch screen functionality. Republic Heroes is also being built for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP, PC, and in the United States only, the PlayStation 2.

Lego Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary (with exclusive Luke Skywalker mini-figure)
US book (non-fiction): written by Simon Beecroft
hardcover (96 pages), DK Children, ISBN 0-7566-5529-3, coverprice: $ 21.99
from amazon.com: In true DK style, LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary elucidates, illuminates, and excites even the most discerning LEGO Group, Star Wars, and minifigure fans around the world.. Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Yoda, Luke Skywalker, and more are brought to life with dozens of little-known facts and hundreds of photos, as are accessories, vehicles, weapons, and even the Death Star! Learn about the history, manufacture, and construction of the minifigures of the Star Wars galaxy, and come away a LEGO Jedi Master.
from San Diego Comic Con 2009 (July 23, 2009): Due out in October, the LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary may seem like an odd venture at first, given that previous Star Wars Visual Dictionaries have explored the in-universe details of the saga, applying names and histories to the various bit players, widgets, greeblies and what-have-yous of the visually dense props and costumes. This LEGO edition serves a visually rich guide to the fantastic sets and figures produced by LEGO, a sort of plussed out collector's bible of the past ten years.
On-hand to discuss it at Comic-Con International were Jonathan Rinzler, Executive Editor at LucasBooks; Rob Johnson, Art Director for the LEGO Group, and Simon Beecroft, author of the book and Publishing Manager for DK Publishing.
"I've been championing some kind of LEGO book for years," said Rinzler. "And finally it all came together... Putting it all together was in many ways a puzzle piece."
Beecroft clarified that the book is not merely a catalog of LEGO products, though every set to date is indeed included. "It does follow along the lines of our Visual Dictionaries, in that it attempts to explain things from the universe it occupies. So this takes the point of view from within the LEGO Star Wars universe of sorts." This is best expressed through themed spreads within the book that often explore a character or faction and its evolution across multiple LEGO sets.
Rinzler explained the narrative voice does switch gears from in-universe, to our universe, occasionally breaking the wall to explain the history of a set or its features as a product. The book includes a timeline of LEGO works, a look behind-the-scenes on the development of sets and mini-figs, as well as a look at LEGO fans. In fact, it was through the generous contributions of one fan, Jeremy Beckett, that the book ended up being as well illustrated as it is.
"We did get a lot of photos. Many from LEGO, but Jeremy also provided so many as well," said Beecroft.
At the end of the presentation, DK Publishing was able to reveal the mini-figure that will be included in the book. "Early in the project, there were a lot of emails flying back and forth between LEGO, Lucasfilm and DK, and one of the subjects that came out was including a mini-figure," said Rinzler. Of the many suggestions, one stood out as perfectly fitting; click here to play the reveal video.

Star Wars: Death Troopers
US book (fiction): written by Joe Schreiber, coverart by Indika
hardcover (288 pages), Del Rey, ISBN 0-345-50962-5, coverprice $ 23.00
from starwars.com (February 19, 2009): From the first appearance of Darth Vader in the groundbreaking movie Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Star Wars fans have known what terror feels like -- and they loved it. But never before has Star Wars publishing ventured into the unknown territory of true horror... until now.
When the Imperial prison barge Purge breaks down in a distant, uninhabited part of space, its only hope seems to lie with a Star Destroyer found drifting, derelict and seemingly abandoned. But when a boarding party is sent to scavenge for parts, only half of them come back -- bringing with them a horrific disease so lethal that within hours, nearly all aboard the Purge will die. And death is only the beginning.
For aboard the Star Destroyer, amid its vast creaking emptiness that isn't really empty at all. For the dead are rising, soulless, unstoppable, and unspeakably hungry.
synopsis (from Amazon.co.uk): In the time immediately following the destruction of the Death Star and the years between the Battle of Yavin and the foundation of the Rebel Base on Hoth, the Empire's grip on the galaxy has become an unyielding fist of retribution. Pressed into action by Emperor Palpatine, Imperial forces have stepped up efforts to hunt down and imprison Rebel sympathizers, shipping them off to newly formed detainment moons via huge prison barges. By necessity these barges are floating chambers of degradation and vice, notoriously unreliable spacecraft staffed by Imperial corrections officers whose cruelty rivals that of the inmates. The Imperial Prison Barge Virtue is hauling its load of prisoners, criminals and murderers, human and non-human, across the galaxy, when it breaks down in deep space. Soon after, the ship's warden discovers a derelict Star Destroyer, seemingly abandoned, and sends a boarding party to scavenge parts to repair the Virtue. Half of them don't come back. The ones that do are infected with a virus so deadly that within hours, it has wiped out ninety-nine percent of the barge's population. But for the handful of survivors - two brothers, the Virtue's female chief medical officer, and a sadistic captain of the guards, along with a certain rogue smuggler and his Wookiee sidekick - the true horror is just begun. Because those inmates and guards who died of the virus don't stay dead...and when they come back, they're extremely hungry. Against their better judgment, the survivors take refuge aboard the massive creaking emptiness of the Destroyer, only to discover that its original population has not disappeared at all - and that they've been waiting for them.
from Joe Schreiber's blog (September 16, 2008): I'm going to be writing a Star Wars horror novel for Lucasfilm, to be released in November of 2009. And although I've been specifically asked not to talk about the content of the book, I can tell you that A) It's going to be very scary and B) It's hopefully going to be released on the same day that my original horror novel The Black Wing comes out.
I'm thrilled (to death, obviously) to have this opportunity, and almost as thrilled to tell you about it here. Stay tuned for all the updates.
from Sue Rostoni's blog (December 16, 2008): We have a title! DEATHTROOPERS and it's now placed just before A New Hope.
from Joe Schreiber's blog (December 16, 2008): Earlier today, Lucasfilm announced that my forthcoming Star Wars horror novel will be called Deathtroopers, and that it will take place immediately before A New Hope. So there you go.
I had the time of my life on this one, I have to say. I'm doing the final edits now, and I've tried to make it into exactly the kind of book you'd want to read if you were a child of the 70s who grew up with the original Star Wars trilogy and really digs horror in the vein of The Shining and Alien, with a little dose of William Gibson mixed in.
I hope when it comes out next November, you'll enjoy it as much as I do.
Meanwhile I'm looking forward to my first visit to Skywalker Ranch.
from Sue Rostoni's blog (December 18, 2008): Deathtroopers, by Joe Schreiber takes place just before the events of A New Hope. This is the first Star Wars venture into the horror genre and should be read under the covers by flashlight.
Sue Rostoni at the starwars.com forums (February 12, 2009): Del Rey has decided to publish DEATHTROOPERS as a hardcover instead of a paperback, and it's now coming out October 13th.
from starwars.com (February 26, 2009): In a move befitting its grisly cover, the upcoming Star Wars novel has had its title ripped into two pieces. Since each and every news update regarding Joe Schreiber's much talked about upcoming novel warrants attention, here's the latest: its title, formerly Deathtroopers, is now Death Troopers.

Star Wars: Imperial Commando: 501st (book 1 in the Imperial Commando-series)
US book (fiction): written by Karen Traviss
paperback, Del Rey, ISBN 0-345-51113-1, coverprice $ 7.99
from starwars.com (March 18, 2009): The Clone Wars are over, but for those with reason to run from the new galactic Empire, the battle to survive has only just begun....
The Jedi have been decimated in the Great Purge, and the Republic has fallen. Now the former Republic Commandos -- the galaxy's finest special forces troops, cloned from Jango Fett -- find themselves on opposing sides and in very different armor. Some have deserted and fled to Mandalore with the mercenaries, renegade clone troopers, and rogue Jedi who make up Kal Skirata's ragtag resistance to Imperial occupation. Others -- including men from Delta and Omega squads -- now serve as Imperial Commandos, a black ops unit within Vader's own 501st Legion, tasked to hunt down fugitive Jedi and clone deserters.
For Darman, grieving for his Jedi wife and separated from his son, it's an agonizing test of loyalty. But he's not the only one who'll be forced to test the ties of brotherhood. On Mandalore, clone deserters and the planet's own natives, who have no love for the Jedi, will have their most cherished beliefs challenged. In the savage new galactic order, old feuds may have to be set aside to unite against a far bigger threat, and nobody can take old loyalties for granted.
(from amazon.co.uk): The Clone Wars are over, but the clone deserters' personal battle against the Empire has only just begun. With death warrants on their heads, and a hated Imperial garrison on Mandalore, Kal Skirata's clan of clone veterans, Mando mercenaries, misfit refugees, and a renegade Jedi find all their worst nightmares have followed them home. The search for a cure for the clones' premature aging grows more desperate, and Etain's son must be protected at all costs. Darman and Niner are still stranded in the Imperial legion, and fight to survive in a very different army. But as Mandalore prepares to resist Palpatine's new order, Skirata is forced to give safe haven to those he hates most, and some he thought were dead. Clan Skirata thinks things can't possibly get any worse - until their ragtag private army faces the reality of fighting the Empire. Their most lethal enemies are now their own brothers.

Star Wars: Battlefront: Elite Squadron (computer game for Nintendo DS and Sony PSP)
US game
computergame, LucasArts and Rebellion
Nintendo DS cover price: $ 29.95 / Sony PSP cover price: $ 39.95
from starwars.com (July 22, 2009): Star Wars Battlefront is back and bigger than ever, dropping on the PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DS this fall. Players will have a chance to grab hold of the deepest and most action-packed Star Wars Battlefront game ever.
No longer confined to choosing between the sky and the land, the new battles span ground, space and capital starships. Coupled with that, both games deliver a robust original storyline and expanded gameplay features that deliver seemingly endless replayability.
Naturally, all we really care about is once again living the fantasy of being that trooper who takes down the Rebellion or the Rebel pilot who distracts his enemies long enough for his allies to destroy the orbiting ship. On this count, Battlefront: Elite Squadron delivers everything from the previous games -- and more.
The huge scale that the Star Wars franchise brings to the realm of space battles finally gets its due. Players can rise above a ground battle in a comandeered X-wing to take down a starship bombarding the trenches below. Heading straight at the ship, the player can choose to dogfight against his enemies or even land on the ship and target its core to deal that final blow.
While the PSP version of the game allows unprecedented levels of customization for each player, the Nintendo DS offers up something else entirely -- a unique bit of gameplay which is based around specialized classes. This allows players to play the way they want and get right to their favorite style of gameplay -- even if it includes lightsaber fights.
With the biggest Battlefront yet coming this fall, we're sure fans will be excited to take the battles of Hoth, Endor and Yavin 4 with them wherever they go.
from amazon.com (Nintendo DS): Unique class-based gameplay on the Nintendo DS let you take advantage of numerous character classes, each with their own specialized weapons and tools and even the ability to carry a lightsaber into battle
Battle intense four-player skirmishes on the Nintendo DS

Commandeer trademark Star Wars vehicles and spacecraft from the Empire¿s TIE Fighters to the Rebel Alliance¿s X-wings, as well as AT-RTs, LAATs, Imperial Transports and Droid Fighters
from amazon.com (Sony PSP): Customization options on the PSP let you build and outfit your character like never before, dictate their battle weapons, armor, species, gender, appearance and physical strengths including hundreds of unlockable items and bonuses
Feel the rush of combat on the PSP system with 16-player multiplayer matches complete with enhanced stat tracking
Play classic characters like Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Kit Fisto, Darth Maul, Count Dooku, Asajj Ventress, Boba Fett, plus new characters from the Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed video games

from starwars.com (May 26, 2009): Coming to PSP System and Nintendo DS: The Galaxy is Bigger Than Ever With Epic Multi-Level Fronts, Deep Original Story and Hugely Expansive Gameplay Features
Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron presents an expanded new take on the classic Star Wars Battlefront gameplay, resulting in new levels of interaction and excitement in handheld gaming. The massive, galactic campaign will ship this Fall for the PSP (PlayStation Portable) system and Nintendo DS.
For the first time ever in the Star Wars Battlefront series, players will be able to fight on multi-level battlefronts, on the ground and in space. Players can start the fight on foot, commandeer a vehicle to battle on the ground or dogfight in space, and land their craft and fight on capital starships. The battles waged on each front are all directly affected by the player's actions, creating a combat experience where every shot fired and every enemy defeated can affect the outcome of a battle on another front.
Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron features a deep and engrossing single player campaign that spans the entire Star Wars Saga -- and beyond. Gamers assume the identity of X2, a clone trooper created from the DNA of a Jedi Master. Originally tasked with eliminating Jedi during Order 66, X2 decides to leave his blood-stained past behind and joins the Rebellion. X2 isn't the only Force-sensitive clone, however. X1, his clone brother, chooses a much more sinister path, leading to a confrontation that could determine the fate of both the Empire and the Rebellion.

"I'm a longtime Star Wars fan, and the same's true for a lot of the guys working on the show," said supervising director Dave Filoni. "And as a fan, I know that Lucasfilm can be pretty secretive. They're famous for it. But we're all so proud of the work that's gone into The Clone Wars, and we wanted to share some of our production tricks, and open up the vault and reveal our efforts. You're going to get unprecedented access, to see the nuts and bolts of our series -- from concept to finished animation."
Created and executive produced by George Lucas, the first-ever TV production from Lucasfilm Animation explores the tumultuous time between Episodes II and III of the live-action saga, expanding the scope of Star Wars beyond anything seen in the feature films.
"The live-action saga was just the beginning. The universe is vast, and there are so many more stories to explore beyond Anakin's fall and redemption," said Lucas. "The scope of the war gives us the perfect vehicle for a weekly series, allowing us to look at how the conflict has affected the ####hest reaches of the galaxy, including characters, creatures and races we only glimpsed in the feature films. Animation has allowed us to visualize the worlds and characters of Star Wars in all new ways."
Star Wars: The Clone Wars The Complete Season One will be available November 3 for the suggested retail price of $44.98 for DVD and $59.99 for Blu-ray.

Star Wars: Millennium Falcon (paperback reprint)
US book (fiction): written by James Luceno
paperback, Del Rey, ISBN 0-545-51005-4, coverprice: $ 7.99
from starwars.com: Climb aboard, buckle up, and prepare to jump to hyperspace for the ultimate flight on the ship that launched a thousand fates!
Two years have passed since the defeat of Darth Caedus, the former Jacen Solo. For a grieving Han and Leia, the shadow of their son's tragic downfall still looms large. But Jacen's own bright and loving daughter, Allana, offers a ray of hope for the future as she thrives in her grandparents' care. The eager, inquisitive and Force-strong girl makes a curious discovery aboard her grandfather's beloved spacecraft -- the much-overhauled but ever-dependable Millennium Falcon. The Solo family then finds itself at a new turning point, about to set out on an odyssey into uncertain territory, untold adventure, and unexpected rewards.
To Han, who knows every bolt, weld, and sensor of the Falcon as if they were parts of himself, the strange device Allana shows him is utterly alien. But its confounding presence -- and Allana's infectious desire to unravel its mystery -- are impossible to dismiss. The only answer lies in backtracking into the past on a fact-finding expedition to retrace the people, places, and events in the checkered history of the vessel that's done everything from making the Kessel Run "in less than twelve parsecs" to helping topple an evil Empire.
From the moment the Falcon broke loose from a Corellian assembly line like an untamed creature with a will of its own, it seemed destined to seek out trouble. It wasn't long before the feisty YT-1300 freighter went from shuttling cargo to smuggling contraband. But it's a fateful rendezvous on Coruscant, at the explosive height of the Republic/Separatist uprising, that launches a galaxywide cat-and-mouse game whose newest players are Han, Leia, Allana and C-3PO. And they're not alone: Crime lords, galactic pirates, rogue politicians and fortune hunters alike loom at every turn of the quest -- each with his or her own desperate stake in the Millennium Falcon's most momentous mission.
Through the years and across the stars, from the Rim Worlds to points beyond, the race will lead them all to a final standoff for a prize some will risk everything to find -- and pay any cost to possess.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition (online game expansion)( Xbox & PlayStation)
US online game expansion
from starwars.com (July 24, 2009): What if the dark side won? The Force Unleashed deepens - and darkens - with a suit of new downloadable content coming this Holiday season to Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network.
LucasArts today announced that their hit videogame Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will see further expansion this Fall through a new downloadable level for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system. In addition, the company also announced Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition, a special new version of the game for the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3, that will show gamers the deepest, darkest side of the Force in a story that puts them on a collision course with Luke Skywalker himself. Available this holiday season at retail stores, The Ultimate Sith Edition will include all of the original missions found in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed as well as content previously only available via download and an all-new exclusive bonus level.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed completely re-imagines the scope and scale of the Force and casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice," unveiling new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy seen through the eyes of a mysterious new character armed with unprecedented powers. Originally released in September 2008, the game quickly became the fastest-selling Star Wars game ever, and has since sold six million units worldwide.
Due to be released in retail stores this holiday season for Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3, Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition combines the original Star Wars: The Force Unleashed videogame and three new levels to create the definitive ultimate-evil storyline of the events that occurred between the two classic Star Wars movie trilogies.
The additional content includes two levels set on Coruscant and Tatooine previously only available via direct download, and an all-new exclusive level available only in the Ultimate Sith Edition package.
The exclusive level concludes the "Infinities" storyline set up in the Tatooine mission, as the Secret Apprentice is sent to the planet Hoth on a crusade to crush the Rebellion once and for all. While on Hoth, players face Luke Skywalker himself while visiting iconic locations seen in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.

Star Wars: Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil (Darth Bane Book 3)
US book (fiction): written by Drew Karpyshyn, cover by John Jude Palencar
hardcover (256 pages), Del Rey, ISBN 0-345-51156-5, coverprice $ 27.00
from starwars.com (February 19, 2009): The Sith are gone -- all except Darth Bane, creator of the "Rule of Two," which states that the new Sith Order will consist of only two: a Master and an apprentice. But how does one train an apprentice whose ultimate goal -- and proof of success -- must be to kill the Master?
Darth Bane is beginning to suffer the effects of drawing heavily on the dark side of the Force for so many years. At the same time, he's beginning to doubt his apprentice, Zannah, because she hasn't yet tried to kill him and take his power. Is she weak? Unworthy of being his apprentice? When he learns of an ancient Sith artifact that might hold the secret to immortal life, he heads out in search of it alone. But Zannah is anything but weak, and now that she has glimpsed his worries, she knows that the time is ripe to take him on. The Forces of evil will clash in spectacular battle, with the future of the Sith hanging in the balance!
from Drew Karpyshyn's website (September 15, 2008): So, what's the big news today? Hmmm... oh, yeah.
There will be a third Darth Bane novel!
The story that began in Path of Destruction and continued in Rule of Two will (possibly) come to a thrilling (and likely bloody) conclusion in the third Bane novel called... well, I don't actually have a title yet. Or an outline. Or any other relevant details.
Come on, give me a break. Rule of Two isn't even out in paperback yet. I mean, I've been thinking about this for a while. Playing with ideas. But I never bothered to lock anything down. (I'm a terrible procrastinator. Without a deadline looming, I tend to let things slide.)
Do I know what's going to happen to Bane and Zannah? Yes... on a very general, very high level. But it's going to be a while before I have the details worked out.
So I know what you're all wondering: will Zannah kill Bane? Will Bane kill Zannah? Will we meet any other apprentices? Sorry, but I can't answer any of those questions. I don't even know exactly when the novel is scheduled for release (although I think winter/spring of 2010 is a good bet). I will tell you that I need to have the manuscript done by March, so that gives me plenty of time to put together a worthy successor to the first two novels.
from Sue Rostoni's blog (September 29, 2008): Untitled Darth Bane novel by Drew Karpyshyn. I don't have the outline for this one yet, but I'm hoping it continues the story of Darth Bane and his apprentice Zannah. I'm dying to see how the two of them get along.
from Sue Rostoni's blog (December 18, 2008): This book continues the story of Darth Bane and his apprentice Zannah. I'm dying to see how the two of them get along.
from Drew Karpyshyn's blog (Februarey 23, 2009): The novel hits shelves in December, and I'm writing the final few chapters right now. I know a lot of you are asking if Zannah kills Bane in this book (or if Bane kills Zannah... or if they both die... or if they both survive), and all I can say is that there will be blood. Lots of it. I'm not afraid of killing off charcters (in fact, I kind of like it... sometimes), so be warned!
I don't really know if I can say anything else about who might be appearing in the novel, but I'm going to throw a couple names out just for kicks: Cognus, Set Harth, Andeddu.
Wow, I probably said way too much. Maybe I should delete that. But for some reason I've been very in touch with my own personal dark side lately, so let's leave it for now and see if I get in trouble.

Star Wars: Gashü
book:
from canned dogs (March 25, 2009): Nishimata Aoi has announced on her blog that she has been picked to represent Japan in an upcoming Star Wars art book which will contain art from over 100 illustrators. She is one of only two artists that are representing Japan in the art book, which is expected to be released late 2009 or early 2010.
The other artist representing Japan is unnamed, but Nishimata comments the other person is somebody who has been around much longer than her and is completely out of reach for somebody like her. She also says she is in charge of the moe illustration, so I'm assuming the other artist will be from a different genre.
Also the book will apparently have a page to introduce the background on each artist that is featured, so it'll be a pretty big book.
from animenewsnetwork.com (March 25, 2009): Aoi Nishimata, the artist best known for her character designs in Shuffle!, Final Approach, Lovedol ~Lovely Idol~, and other games (and their anime adaptations), has announced on her personal blog on Wednesday that she is participating in the Star Wars Gashū (Star Wars Art Collection) book that will be released worldwide. She is one of two Japanese representatives among the over 100 illustrators participating in the project. Nishimata says that the other Japanese illustrator on the project is a great sempai "in the clouds above" her in terms of stature. Nishimata adds that she is nervous and filled with trepidation over Star Wars creator George Lucas seeing her artwork. According to Nishimata, the book will probably be released this year or in the beginning of next year.
Star Wars Omnibus: "Lost Stories" (not real title)
US comic collection:
Leland Chee's in Star Wars: Luke Skywalker: Last Hope for the Galaxy (September 2008): The Marvel UK series included stories from the US Marvel series plus original stories, including some that were originally published in Pizzazz magazine. Some of these original stories were reprinted by Dark Horse in Classic Star Wars: Devilworlds. In the stories from the Marvel UK series, Luke faced further peril on the planets Yavin, Foundry, Alashan, Akuria, Dantooine, Jerne, and Garn. And in one exceptionally strange tale, he confronted his darkest fears from the monkeylike Nightmare Demon on Lapez III.
Dark Horse is planning a collection of these "lost" stories and others in the near future.

Dennis Muren comment from Star Wars Insider # 104, Oct/Nov. 2008: "At the moment I am actually working on a book. I am still doing stuff with ILM, but I don't have any particular film right now. I'm just trying to get this book done. I don't want to say too much about it, but it is not a memoir; it is more of a how-to book. Visual effects are an art and they really have not taught it to the people. That is what I have been working on for the past few months.

Star Wars: The Old Republic (Massively Multiplayer Online PC-game)
US game (MMO): LucasArts and BioWare
from Star Wars: The Old Republic (June 1, 2009): The Sacking of Coruscant. It was the crowning achievement of the Sith Empire's ambitious military strategy and the moment that changed the history of the Old Republic forever. You may have read about it before, but our first cinematic trailer captures this event with breathtaking action and beautiful detail.
Republic leaders have traveled to Alderaan to engage in promised peace talks with the Sith Empire. The most powerful Jedi have accompanied them to safeguard against an Imperial deception. The Empire's real motive, however, was simply to lure the Republic's strongest defenders away from Coruscant and set the stage for an audacious attack. Under the command of Lord Angral, the Sith fleet approaches the Republic's capital planet for the first time in centuries. In advance of the fleet, the strongest Sith Warriors have flown a stolen Republic ship into Coruscant's orbit. Their mission is critical - to destroy the planet's defense grid mainframe hidden in the heart of the Jedi Temple.
from starwars.com (October 21, 2008): LucasArts and BioWare, a division of Electronic Arts Inc., today announced the development of Star Wars: The Old Republic, a story-driven massively multiplayer online PC game set in the timeframe of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic franchise. Star Wars: The Old Republic, being developed and published by BioWare and LucasArts, represents an innovative approach to interactive entertainment, featuring immersive storytelling, dynamic combat and intelligent companion characters.
In Star Wars: The Old Republic, players will explore an age thousands of years before the rise of Darth Vader when war between the Old Republic and the Sith Empire divides the galaxy. Players can choose to play as Jedi, Sith, or a variety of other classic Star Wars roles, defining their personal story and determining their path down the light or dark side of the Force. Along the way, players will befriend courageous companions who will fight at their side or possibly betray them, based on the players' actions. Players can also choose to team up with friends to battle enemies and overcome incredible challenges using dynamic Star Wars combat.
from Star Wars: The Old Republic (October 21, 2008): The Galactic Republic stood for generations as a bastion of peace in a galaxy of warring star systems. Protected by its stalwart Jedi guardians, the Republic held the greatest hope for the progress of civilization and galactic unity.
Deep in unknown space, however, a mighty Sith Empire was forged, led by dark Sith Lords who dreamt of galactic domination and vengeance against their ancient Jedi enemies. After centuries of preparation, the time came for the Sith to make their return.
With a massive fleet and an awe-inspiring army of fearless troops, the Sith Emperor launched a surprise assault, quickly capturing dozens of worlds in the Outer Rim, and sparking a war unlike any other in the galaxy's history.
From the frozen wastes of Ilum to the desert plains of Dathomir, violent battles killed untold millions. Despite its avowed neutrality, surface structures on the water-covered world of Manaan were completely destroyed, forcing the Selkath to retreat to their ocean underworld. Other star systems fared worse-some destroyed, others left uninhabitable. The carnage concluded with the Sith Empire sacking the Republic's capital planet of Coruscant and forcing the Republic Senate into the controversial Treaty of Coruscant.
In the years since the treaty, fear and uncertainty have gripped the galaxy, enabling the Sith Emperor to pursue his own mysterious purposes while the Republic has made efforts to rebuild its infrastructure and adjust military priorities to the new galactic landscape.
Now, tensions between the Republic and the Empire are running high, and a series of border skirmishes and proxy wars have broken out, even on planets as historically peaceful as Alderaan. The uneasy truce established by the Treaty of Coruscant is quickly tearing apart at the seams, and a return to all-out war has begun in all but official terms.
A new generation of heroes, both light and dark, emerges to face the difficulties of these chaotic times, and fight for the fate of the galaxy in this most desperate age.
time-placement (from the Star Wars: The Old Republic website): Star Wars: The Old Republic takes place more than 3,500 years before the rise of Darth Vader. The most powerful Sith Empire in history has emerged from deep space to attack the Republic and its legendary Jedi guardians. After decades of war, a tenuous truce has been established between the Sith Empire and the Republic, but events occurring in the game are leading the galaxy back to an all-out war.
Star Wars: The Old Republic takes place approximately three hundred years after the events of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR). At the conclusion of the Jedi Civil War in KOTOR, Revan disappeared into unknown space in search of a great threat to the Republic, an expanding Sith Empire led by a mysterious Emperor who planned vengeance for his ancient Jedi enemies. Revan never returned from unknown space, but the Sith Empire did, kicking off a war with the Republic that lasted for decades. Now, despite the uneasy truce created by the Treaty of Coruscant, the tension among the divided star systems is threatening to once again tear the galaxy apart.
Star Wars: The Old Republic (novel)
US book (fiction):
hardcover, Del Rey
from Sue Rostoni at the starwars.com forums (October 2, 2008): There is an untitled game novel in the new, recently released contract, floating out there that hasn't been placed yet. I don't know when it will come out because it has to fit with LucasArt's plans. Mostly, we assign an "untitled game novel" to the contract and then see what develops.
from starwars.com's forums (November 9, 2008): Question: Will you guys consider doing something with Del Rey/Dark Horse so that us unfortunate souls that don't play MMO's don't miss out on the epic story?
answer by Sue Rostoni: Yes, this is part of the plan. A novel will come out sometime around the game release time and that's all that's been determined so far. I'll let you know as things develop.

Star Wars: Crosscurrent
US book (fiction): written by Paul S. Kemp
paperback (272 pages), Del Rey, ISBN 0-345-509056, coverprice $ 7.99
back cover text from starwars.com (July 17, 2009): An ancient Sith ship hurtles into the future carrying a lethal cargo that could forever destroy Luke Skywalker's hopes for peace.
The Civil War is almost over when Jedi Knight Jaden Korr experiences a Force vision so intense he must act. Enlisting two salvage jocks and their ship, Jaden sets out into space. Someone -- or something -- appears to be in distress.
But what Jaden and his crew find confounds them. A five-thousand-year-old dreadnaught -- bringing with it a full force of Sith and one lone Jedi -- has inadvertently catapulted eons from the past into the present. The ship's weapons may not be cutting-edge, but its cargo, a special ore that makes those who use the dark side nearly invincible, is unsurpassed. The ancient Jedi on board is determined to destroy the Sith. But for Jaden, even more is at stake: for his vision has led him to uncover a potentially indestructible threat to everything the Jedi Order stands for.
Sue Rostoni at the starwars.com forums (July 21, 2009): The folks on the cover are the Jedi character Relin, and a Sith named Saes. We didn't put Jaden on the cover because Jaden's a customizable character in the game and we didn't want to nail down his or her appearance.
This doesn't mean that Jaden will always be referred to as "Jaden" and never "he" or "she." Jaden will be referred to as "he" in the novel.
Sue Rostoni at the starwars.com forums (May 7, 2009): I've just started reading CROSSCURRENT. It's set in 5000 BBY and also around 41ABY, give or take a bit.
from Paul S. Kemp's LiveJournal (April 16, 2009): Given the kind of story I wrote, Crosscurrent necessarily has a complex narrative structure (as distinguished from its plot, which is complex to a degree, but certainly not labyrinthine), but I think it works quite well.
I think my greatest strength as a writer is in creating compelling characters and putting them through their paces. Crosscurrent, I believe, reflects that quite well. The primary reason I wanted to use Jaden Korr (who'd never featured in a novel before) rather than one of the name characters of the setting was so that I would have a bit more freedom with the character arc, backstory, and so on. Jaden turns out to be interestingly complicated and I'm really quite pleased with how his story unfolded. I'm equally pleased with the arcs for the other characters and I hope you are, too. As a bonus, I think Crosscurrent features some of the best dialogue I've written.
Long story short, writing in the Expanded Universe rocked on toast. I hope I'm able to do so again, and I'd love to write another novel or novels that build off the events of Crosscurrent. Time will tell.
from Paul S. Kemp's blog (September 15, 2008): I want to let you all know that I'll be writing a novel in the Star Wars line from Del Rey. I'm both honored and excited to be a part of Star Wars. The novel, currently untitled, will be a standalone, occurs after the events of the Legacy of the Force series, and will feature a Jedi who has been mentioned by name only a handful of times in previous Star Wars novels, and who has (as far as I know) never been developed at all (I tried very hard to convince the Del Rey editors to allow me to use a previously unused character, and they were gracious in that regard; the story is also entirely of my own creation, so that's pretty cool, too). I'm not yet authorized to give any more detail on the character or story, but will when I can.
Long story short, I get to play in this incredible sandbox with characters and a story that is basically my own (which is pretty much the way it is in the Realms, too, come to think of it). I think that's damned cool.
The novel is scheduled for release in very early 2010. I'm in the process of writing it now. This will have no effect on my next Forgotten Realms trilogy, the first book of which will also release in 2010.
from Paul S. Kemp's LiveJournal (September 19, 2008): I am allowed to mention that my Star Wars novel will feature the Jedi Jaden Korr as one of the lead characters.
from Sue Rostoni's blog (September 29, 2008): This one sort of takes place during the Great Hyperspace War, and then.... well, you'll see.
from Sue Rostoni's blog (October 27, 2008): The title is Crosscurrent.
from Paul S. Kemp's LiveJournal (September 30, 2008): It appears that a spokesperson for Del Rey indicated that my Star Wars novel will take place during The Great Hyperspace War. I have already indicated that the novel will feature Jaden Korr, a Jedi born millenia after The Great Hyperspace War, and these two statements, taken together, have caused some confusion.
I don't want to give away major plot points, but in an effort to lessen some of the confusion, I will say this: The novel does contain a scene or scenes that take place during The Great Hyperspace War, and scenes that take place in the present, post LotF period, and the plot of the novel turns on the (I hope interesting) way that past and present intersect.
from Sue Rostoni's blog (December 18, 2008): This one stars Jaden Korr and probably a few Jedi and a few Sith. It sort of takes place during the Great Hyperspace War, and then sort of doesn't... well, you'll figure it out.
(thanks to Master_Keralys from the TFN forums for pointing this one out, and ZeeZee from swbooks.co.uk for the update)
from Paul S. Kemp's LiveJournal (January 27, 2009): Meanwhile, I'm writing Crosscurrent at the moment. Just put the following to digital paper. Still rough, maybe a bit overwrought in one place, but captures the mood I want it to capture:
He sped around the planet, outpacing its spin, chasing the day, until he saw the system's star crest the horizon line.
"Put us in geosynchronous, R-6," he said, and the droid complied.
Jaden stared out and down the cockpit's window as the planet rotated into day. Light filled his cockpit, washed over the planet's surface by increments, unveiling a quilt of clouds floating over the red, orange, and tan of vast deserts, the blue smear of an ocean, the spine of a mountain range that ran the length of the main continent. To Jaden, it was like watching the slow reveal of a masterful work of art, a sculpture of earth and water, wondrous in its lonely, whirling trek through the emptiness of space. He always tried to see a starcrest from orbit before setting foot on a planet. He wasn't sure why - maybe he wanted to see every world in its best light before putting down on its surface.
Unbidden, he recalled a starcrest over Corellia that he'd seen from a viewport aboard Centerpoint Station as he and his strike force had moved through the metal maze of its corridors.
He dismissed the memory quickly, pained by the realization that his actions on Centerpoint had polluted even this, one of the small pleasures he had long enjoyed.
Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi: Backlash (Book 4 of 9)
US book (fiction): written by Aaron Allston

from starwars.com: Among the titles launching in 2009 are the first three in a new Star Wars multi-book, multi-author story arc following directly in the footsteps of the Legacy of the Force series. The nine-book, three-author series, Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi, will break new ground by being the first multi-book Star Wars series to be published all in hardcover. The series, which will be published over the space of three years, will launch in April 2009 with Outcast, by Aaron Allston; the other two authors planning and penning the nine novels will be Christie Golden and Troy Denning.

Star Wars Comic Packs: Visionaries story
US comic with action figures
Star Wars: Visionaries (with Tol Skorr and Asajj Ventress)
information taken from Hasbro.com (May 29, 2008):
Question: You confirmed that a Visionaries figure is coming. Can you reveal how its coming, i.e. a Battle Pack or Basic Wave?
Answer by Hasbro: Neither. It will be in a comic 2-pack, out late 2009.
Information taken from jeditemplearchives.com (December 6, 2008):
Question: Back in a May 2008 Q&A session with The Jawa it was mentioned that a VISIONARIES comic 2-pack would be on the way in 2009. Can you confirm the figure lineup for this pack? Will it feature the iconic final confrontation between Obi-Wan and cyborg Darth Maul?
Answer by Hasbro: We now have more information on the timing of this set. Due to a crowded Fall 2009 comic pack schedule, this pack has now been slotted in with the first wave of 2010 which should be on shelf approximately January/February. Since it is still so far off, we don't want to confirm the figures in the pack except to say that your guess on one of the characters is incorrect.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Gambit Book I: Stealth (Book 4 in the series)
US book (fiction): written by Karen Miller
trade paperback, Del Rey, coverprice $ 15.00
from Karen Miller's LiveJournal (May 26, 2009): Done, done, done. Where I am it's 1.35 am. I've been writing since 8 am yesterday and have finished the major rewrite of Star Wars Clone Wars #4 and sent it off to those who must have it.
The first draft clocked in at 86k. This draft is 106k. It will go a bit longer once I've sorted the very last chapter on the very last rewrite, because it's a bit light on still but seriously? I broke my brain. Again.
How do I feel about it? Actually, not bad. I think there might be some good stuff here. Of course, it's only half the story. This is a 2 parter. And yes -- there is a cliffhanger. When is there not a cliffhanger when I write a multivolume story?
And yes there is trauma and drama and angst and some humour. And lots and lots and lots of Anakin and Obi-Wan. A little bit of Bail. A little bit of Padme. A little bit of Ahsoka. Actually, quite a nice dollop of Ahsoka. A great in-canon villain who isn't Palpatine. And there are a couple of new characters, both my inventions. And I like them very much. One of them might well cause a bit of a stir. But never mind -- I live to cause trouble. *g*
I love this universe. I love these characters. I'm so lucky.
from Karen Miller's LiveJournal (February 4, 2009): So here's my slightly delayed leap into the next book. This time it's Clone Wars #4. I don't have a title yet, so this is what it'll be until someone gets a brain wave. With the bug gone and my brain clear, I spent yesterday finishing up watching the Clone Wars cartoons, reading Karen Traviss's next Clone Wars novel, which mine follows, and beating my brains against the wall until a coherent plot outline fell out. As I've mentioned previously, I don't usually do really detailed plot outlines, but because I'm on a very tight time constraint with this one I made an exception. I think I'm happy. I think it'll work.
Star Wars: Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor (paperback reprint)
US book (fiction): written by Matthew Stover
paperback (400 pages), Del Rey, ISBN 0-345-47745-6, coverprice $ 7.99
from amazon.com: Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader are dead. The Empire has been toppled by the triumphant Rebel Alliance, and the New Republic is ascendant. But the struggle against the dark side and the Sith Order is not over. Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, and their faithful comrades have had little time to savor victory before being called on to defend the newly liberated galaxy.
Powerful remnants of the vanquished Empire, hungry for retaliation, are still at large, committing acts of piracy, terrorism, and wholesale slaughter against the worlds of the fledgling New Republic. The most deadly of these, a ruthless legion of black-armored Stormtroopers, do the brutal bidding of the newly risen warlord Shadowspawn. Striking from a strategically advantageous base on the planet Mindor, they are waging a campaign of plunder and destruction, demolishing order and security across the galaxy-and breeding fears of an Imperial resurgence. Another reign of darkness beneath the boot-heel of Sith despotism is something General Luke Skywalker cannot, and will not, risk.
Mobilizing the ace fighters of Rogue Squadron-along with the trusty Chewbacca, See-Threepio, and Artoo-Detoo-Luke, Han, and Leia set out to take the battle to the enemy and neutralize the threat before it's too late. But their imminent attack on Mindor will be playing directly into the hands of their cunning new adversary. Lord Shadowspawn is no freshly anointed Sith Chieftain but in fact a vicious former Imperial Intelligence officer-and Prophet of the Dark Side. The Emperor's death has paved the way for Shadowspawn's return from exile in the Outer Rim, and mastery of ancient Sith knowledge and modern technology has given him the capability to mount the ultimate power play for galaxy wide dominion. Dark prophecy has foretold that only one obstacle stands in his way, and he is ready-even eager-for the confrontation.
All the classic heroes, all the explosive action and adventure, all the unparalleled excitement of Star Wars come breathlessly alive as the adventures of Luke Skywalker continue.

The Making of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back: The Definite Story behind the Film
US book (non-fiction): Del Rey, by J.W. Rinzler
hardcover, Del Rey (372 pages), ISBN 0-345-50961-7, coverprice $ 85.00
Information taken from Star Wars Insider # 92, March/April 2007:"J.W. Rinzler (LucasBooks executive editor) says tentative plans are afoot to reissue the making-of books for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, with Alan Arnold and John Philip Peecher's original manuscripts supplemented by a wealth of images."
Information from starwars.com, April 23, 2007:
Question: Is there other archival material, for example relating to the two sequels, that has yet to come to light? Is this the last "Making Of" book?
J.W. Rinzler: Well, the next two already have published books out there. But there is a ton of never-seen-before visual material that we could publish. A lot depends on how The Making of Star Wars does in the marketplace. If it's a success, then I'll be able to leverage deluxe versions, with many more photos and art, for Empire and Jedi -- perhaps for their anniversaries.
Information from lightsaber.co.uk, May 2008:
Question: When we spoke the very first time at the end of the interview you mentioned Making of Star Wars and when we spoke specifically about Making of Star Wars you mentioned Making of Indy. But also there's the thought of Making of Empire and Jedi. Any more news on that?
J.W. Rinzler: Well with the Making of Star Wars I couldn't say it because we didn't know how well the book would do, but since the book did so well and in fact it made the New York Times best seller list, so I think we're pretty sure there'll be an Empire Strikes Back book, and if we do it will be in the same format as the Star Wars book.
from starwars.com (September 12, 2008): Also to come is The Making of The Empire Strikes Back, to be released in 2010 in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of that film.
from starwars.com (September 18, 2008): That spring, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, Del Rey and author J.W. Rinzler gives the lavish "behind-the-scenes" treatment to Episode V with The Making of The Empire Strikes Back.
Star Wars: Blood Oath might be cancelled
US book (fiction): written by Elaine Cunningham, cover by Dave Seely
paperback (352 pages), Del Rey, ISBN 0-345-51067-9, coverprice $ 7.99
from Sue Rostoni at the sw.com forums (June 22, 2009): Blood Oath -- we're all doing our best to keep it in the line-up and, if the manuscript comes in soon, the book will be moved again, maybe to April 2010. If there's no manuscript, then it'll have to be dropped. Events beyond the author's control, or wishes, have caused the delays. I know, that really doesn't tell you much, but it's not my story to tell, ya know?
from Elaine Cunningham's LiveJournal (September 15, 2008): Blood Oath is a self-contained story, rather than an episode within a larger tale. While both have their place, I'm very pleased to have the opportunity to tell a largely self-contained story.
Blood Oath is an adventure shadowed by political intrigue, with a bit of humor and maybe a hint of romance. I can't hope to recreate the sense of wonder I found in my first trip to a theater back in 1978, but I'm keeping that memory firmly in mind as I write.
from starwars.com (September 18, 2008): Blood Oath, a standalone paperback featuring Zekk that is set soon after the events of the Legacy of the Force series.
from Sue Rostoni's blog (September 29, 2008): This is Zekk's story and takes place after his mishap in the battle in INVINCIBLE. Yes, he still lives. We have just received cover concepts on this one - the artist is Dave Seeley.
timeline notations by Sue Rostoni at the starwars.com forums (October 2, 2008): They way we have it right now is that Legacy of the Force ends in the middle of year 41 ABY. Blood Oath follows a few months later, and Millennium Falcon takes place at 43.44 ABY (these are tenths of a twelve-month year) with Fate of the Jedi starting at 43.5.
from Sue Rostoni's blog (December 18, 2008): Blood Oath has been moved to December 2009. The manuscript hasn't been delivered yet -- it just got to be too late to make the deadline, so we moved it. I feel badly because the story, as you know, takes place before Outcast so we wanted it to come out as close to Outcast as possible... but it didn't happen.
from Sue Rostoni's blog (December 18, 2008): Remember where we left Zekk at the end of the final battle in Invincible? This book begins with Zekk left spinning in his StealthX and follows his journey to rejoin the Jedi Order. But first..... well, it's all in the novel.
from starwars.com (January 6, 2009): Once an orphan scavenging on the streets of Coruscant's undercity, he rose to become a Jedi Knight and serve with honor as a fighter pilot for the New Republic. Alongside Jaina Solo, he confronted the forces of Darth Caedus -- the most powerful of the Sith Lords -- in a battle that nearly destroyed him. But his story isn't over. For Zekk, the future holds much more...
Darth Caedus is dead, and the war is ended. Still, the Imperial Remnant remains a very real threat for the Galactic Alliance. And though the Moffs' attempted assassination of Tenel Ka, Queen Mother of the Hapes Consortium, has failed, their machinations have uncovered an ancient secret capable of destroying the queen and her people as surely as the deadliest attack.
As Jag Fel, Imperial Remnant leader and Zekk's longtime rival for Jaina Solo's affections, assumes control of the Moff Council -- stepping right into a nest of explosive intrigue -- Zekk, desperate to contact his Jedi comrades, finds himself at the mercy of a pirate captain with an unknown agenda and allegiance to none but herself. But with or without her, the Knight vows to do whatever it takes to stop the volatile conflict unfolding around him from reaching its fatal endgame.
from Previews # 245, February 2009 (January 2009): Set between the conclusion of Legacy of the Force and the beginning of the Fate of the Jedi series, this new, original, stand-alone Star Wars adventure focuses on the popular Jedi character Zekk caught up in Imperial intrigue.

Star Wars Blueprints: The Ultimate Collection: Rebel Edition

hardcover, DK Children (32 pages), ISBN 0-7566-5203-0, coverprice: $ 19.99

additional info from eucantina.net (September 25, 2008): We contacted Mr. Chris Trevas, who illustrated "The Ultimate Collection," and he told us that this is indeed a follow up to the book seen in August, but nothing about it is concrete yet.
from starwars.com (October 21, 2008): For those who can't get enough of the amazing technology found in the Star Wars galaxy, DK Books follows up their Star Wars Blueprints set with five more double-sided poster-sized schematic plans encased in a bookshelf box. This time, artists Chris Trevas and Chris Reiff and writer Ryder Windham explore the Rebel Alliance, with blueprints depicting Echo Base, an X-wing fighter, the Tantive IV, a Y-wing fighter, and Rebel gear like blasters and bowcasters. These intricate plans show never-before-seen details of how Star Wars technology works.

US book (fiction): written by Alex Irvine
hardcover, Del Rey
from starwars.com (September 18, 2008): author Alex Irvine has a standalone hardcover novel set in the time of the ancient Jedi Knights.
from Alex Irvine's blog (September 19, 2008): Lucasfilm has announced an extension of their deal with Del Rey until 2013, and yours truly is going to be writing a novel set just before the Knights of the Old Republic storyline. Since I am one of those guys who saw the movie (you know, The Movie; you know the one I mean) a dozen times the summer it came out, this is kind of a dream come true. Viva la Geek! Plus, there are some interesting open spaces in the continuity from that period, which give me a lot of room to work.
from Sue Rostoni's blog (September 29, 2008): This is a stand-alone novel starring... are you ready? Nomi Sunrider!!
comment by Sue Rostoni on the starwars.com forums (October 9, 2008): Question: Will the Nomi Sunrider novel be retelling the stories of the TOTJ comics in whole or in part, or will it be mostly new territory?

Star Wars: Holostar (working title)
US book (non-fiction): written by Michael Reaves and Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff
paperback, Del Rey
from Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff's blog (May 6, 2009): I logged on this morning to discover that the news of Dash Rendar's appearance in Holostar has hit the Web. TheForce.net has passed the message along and, of course, there is speculation on the "boards" at StarWars.com (and other places) about whether Dash Rendar could be the titular holostar. (He's not, okay?).
from Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff's blog (April 29, 2009): There's been some speculation about where the characters for Holostar are going to be drawn from. (If you missed that memo-ahem: Holostar is the working title of the novel that Michael Reaves and I are currently working on.) A number of fans have asked for more Jax Pavan and I-5YQ-both the products of Michael's brilliant imagination. Other fans have hoped that the Holostar cast will include characters that they've known and loved.
Well, one of those two groups may be disappointed (for a time, at least) because the protagonist of Holostar is (drum roll here)...
Dash Rendar, of Shadows of the Empire fame.
Handsome devil, isn't he? (If you like those two-dimensional comic guys...)
Dash was part of several SOE projects, including the comic book, novel and customizable card game (I played Magic, so I missed all of this.) But he was the absolute star of the Nintendo 64 game in which you, the player, got to pilot him through various scenarios in the battle for Hoth.
from Sue Rostoni's blog (September 29, 2008): Untitled by Michael Reaves and Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff, featuring a promising holostar - a rags to riches story set against the backdrop of the early days of the Rebellion.
from Sue Rostoni's blog (October 8, 2008): The book has just been set at 2 years BBY.

Star Wars (novel by Timothy Zahn)
US book (fiction): written by Timothy Zahn
hardcover, Del Rey
from starwars.com (April 2, 2009): Bestselling author and fan-favorite Timothy Zahn will return to the Expanded Universe of Star Wars novels with a new full-length story to be published by Del Rey Books in 2011. The new tale of intrigue and action is set in the time of classic Star Wars trilogy, not long after the events of his previous novel, Allegiance. The legendary heroes return -- Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Chewbacca -- along with some of Zahn's most popular creations: Thrawn, Mara Jade and the Hand of Judgment stormtroopers.
The book is as yet untitled, but is slated to debut in fall of 2011, the year that marks the 20th anniversary of his first Star Wars novel, Heir to the Empire, the blockbuster book that launched the modern era of Star Wars publishing.
Well, that's it (for today)... Start saving if you want all of these (I know I will!!!) And remember, for the latest and links toward the various descriptions/updates, visit
