The Incredibly Brave Assistant Librarian?
As I said yesterday, I've started rereading The Courtship of Princess Leia. (I'm up to chapter 2 in posting the readthrough notes on my LiveJournal, for anyone who's interested).

In the second chapter, Luke finds the remains of a Jedi of the Old Republic and some burned-up records.

He knew little except that the Jedi Master had served the Old Republic in its final hours. [...] As curator of records for the Jedi at Coruscant, the man had seemed only a minor functionary, hardly worthy of notice by the invading Imperials. Yet he had fled Coruscant with the records of a thousand years of Jedi.

Adding to my interest,

The body was gone, dissipated as Yoda's and Ben's had[.]

I'm way behind in trying to keep up with the EU, so maybe everyone else knows who this guy is, but a quick search of the database didn't turn anything up, and I don't remember hearing anything about him. This is a shame, because he sounds interesting!

Was he Jocasta Nu's assistant? Exactly when did he flee? Was he running out the back door with his arms full of records as Vader and the clones came in the front? Or did the Jedi make backup copies of their most important records and send him off to guard them earlier, perhaps when the battles started getting too close to Coruscant?

And how did he learn the disappearing trick? Did he discover it on his own? Did he, like Qui-Gon, run into a Shaman of the Whills? Did he learn it from GhostlyVoice!Qui-Gon? The Disappearing Corpse skill is supposed to be rare, difficult, and unknown to even PT Jedi until Qui-Gon finally tells Yoda about it from the beyond. Knowing how this guy learned it might be important.

If anyone knows more about this Jedi, let me know!

Unfortunately the book you are reading was published well before the prequel trilogy. When Dave Wolverton wrote that book there was no "Jocasta Nu". When reading the EU novels, which i've read almost all of them, the continuity can sometimes be flawed. They were approved by lucas arts but the films refused to be dictated by events in the novels. If they go together that's great, if not, oh well. We just have to use some imagination. If you continue reading the novels, you will find many such discrepencies. Don't let them bother you, the star wars novels are still an excellent addition to the star wars universe.

Jocasta Nu vs The orangutan - Battle of the Librarians. Now that I would pay to watch.

About your question, though, I assume that he fled once the attack on the Temple had begun, but he wasn't necessarily in the Temple itself - in the guide to the locations of AotC it mentions that the 'Temple Precinct' around the main structure also houses Jedi facilities.

I agree - continuity error, and movies trump EU in terms of what is considered to be cannon (sp?). But I do often enjoy the alternative possibilities the EU presents. I've gotten into the habit of believeing all kinds of contradictory things to be true at the same time especially when it comes to SW!

If there's one thing I've learned from reading the VIP blogs here, it's that people can make anything in the EU fit together if they squint hard enough, and this doesn't seem like it would be hard. Plenty of stuff written before the PT has been made to work with continuity. I was wondering whether someone already had incorporated this guy into one of the latest books by making him Jocasta Nu's assistant or something.

the 'Temple Precinct' around the main structure also houses Jedi facilities.

That sounds promising!

the courtship of princess leia is definitly an excelent book. now i dont know much abou the character that you are refering too because he is only mentioned for a few moments in the book. he worked hard to preserve the jedi order but his efforts were thwarted. but not in vain. he will lead luke to a greater discovery later on. so while his initial efforts were dashed ultimatly he played a much larger role in reestablishing the Jedi Order.
