Windu's Mistake
Theres a question going around and around in my head: In Episode III why did Mace Windu hesitate to kill Palpatine? I mean he sat there talking to Anakin when he should of just killed Palpatine then and there.

If he did then Anakin would of probably still killed him and he probably knew that but wouldnt it be worth it to save millions maybe billions of lives?

Heres all the good things that could of happened if he killed him:

1.) The Clone Troopers would of never executed Order 66, therefore sparing all the Jedi.

2.) The Clone Wars would of been over since the other two leaders of the Sepratists (Dooku, Grevious) were dead.

3.) There would never be a Galactic Empire.

4.) Padme probably wouldnt of died.

Heres all the bad things that could of happened:

1.) Anakin would of killed Windu.

2.) Anakin would of been mad that the only person eho could help save Padme was dead, so he could study the Dark Side by himself.

3.) Anakin could of took control of the droid army (not likely) and lead an attack himself (though he would of died).

Of course all the bad things are about Anakin.:^O

So you see Mace Windu was very stupid in hesistating.

If you read the novel, he stood there looking for the Shatterpoint in the situation. Anakin was unstable and Mace new this so he tried to calm him. My reasoning really is just another case of J.B.A.O-C. Jedi Being Arrogantly Over-Confident. He thought he won and it was all over.

I don't think Mace would have been able to kill Palpatine even if he didn't hesitate. Palpatine was just stringing him along to make sure that Anakin completely fell to the dark side. And dm517 is right, the novelization has some good stuff about Mace finding and missing some shatterpoints during that whole encounter.

Its not the Jedi Way! In the novels Mace's style of fighting sways between a balance of dark and light..
I think he would have killed him.. if it weren't for Anakin intervening..

I think master windu would have defeated darth sidious if anakin wasnt there because anakin was the chosen one and besides darth sidious was weak at the moment and master windu is strong in the force and is a jedi master. If anakin didnt intervene the republic and jedi would still be going.;)

I think if Anakin wasn't there Palpatine would have defeated Mace. He only acted weak to trick Anakin and to lure him to the Dark Side by making him help kill Mace.

It did appear on the surface that Windu was about to take down the Sith Master, but Sidious was such an expert at hiding his true power he would've defeated Mace had Anakin not stopped by when he did. He waited for Anakin to arrive to allow him to do the dirty work and submit himself to the Darkside, fulfilling his destiny. Had that not happened, I think Sidious would've taken Mace like he did the other three.

I don't believe that Sidous would have been able to kill Mace after he lost his lightsaber. Mace was able to control himself, and Sidious, as long as he had his saber - as was evidenced by Sidious' attemempt to use Force Lightning against Mace. Anakin was a wild card Mace didn't fully anticipate. The hesitation could be explained as much by the 'shatterpoints' as described in the book as by Mace trying to explain his reasoning to Anakin. Here Sidious 'wins'. He's already convinced Anakin to follow the Sith ways (whether Anakin realises or not), and therefore Anakin is 'blind' to tace's reason, thinking he is killing Sidious for the same reason that Anakin killed Dooku - revenge - while Mace is killing for the Republic.

It is Anakin's mistake.

If Dooku was too dangerous to be left alive, then Anakin has no excuse for failing to kill Palpatine when he reveals himself as a sith lord. If Anakin had just waited in the temple as Windu requested, there would be no Empire bcause Mace would have killed Palpatine. Every bad thing that happens in Star Wars is because Anakin makes poor decisions.
