The Crystal Star was written by Vonda N McIntyre in 1994 and is set 14 years ABY. It features one of the many kidnappings of the Solo children but in the process gives us some good early interaction between Jaina and Jacen.

If people didn't like "the callsta trilogy" or the NJO because they thought the presentation of Luke was weak ... well you ain't seen nothing until you see this book! The characterisation of Luke was just awful in this book, and Han wasn't far behind (incidentally, it refers to Han having a break from "generaling" - but I thought that he was a General in title only and had long retured from the new republic forces ... did he re-join at some stage around this time or have I misunderstood?).

Leia is by far the strongest adult character in this book, but even she does not ring true.

Not to mention Hethrir and Waru. *shudders*

I did enjoy the children's parts of the books, though, especially Jacen and Jaina ... their early use of the force and important role in the storyline made this book almost worth reading.

And now on to the BFC ... hopefully things improve from here!
