Rainy Days On Kamino Always Get Me Down...

Is it Hoth in here or is it just the Star Wars stuff I bought?
Sept. 12, 2006... a day for remembering...

my childhood.

Well, being the Star Wars fan that I am, I finally made my way to Circuit City this morning and bought the new limited edition DVDs of:

Star Wars: A New Hope (Widescreen)
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars: Reurn Of The Jedi

The release of these three films was something I had waited a long time for. Not that the "Special Edition" versions aren't "special" enough, but let's just say I couldn't deny revisiting my childhood, even if just for today. And once I arrived home, I had to watch my favorite film of the trio, which was "The Empire Strikes Back". And it was cool to watch this film in all of it's nostalgic splendor.

I also purchased the PS2 and PSP versions of "Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy" My son has been playing the PS2 version ever since he got home from school and he loves it.

And check out the cool "bonus extras" that I received with each purchase:

For each film: a litograph! very classic looking, very cool!
For each game: a "Lego Star Wars II: t-shirt! I gave them both to my 2 1/2 year old. I've been trying to turn him on to Star Wars ever since last year.

I don't know about you, but today was definitely crimson letter day (get it?) for this Star Wars fan. It reminded me not only of how much Star Wars meant to me as a child, but it made me flashback to:

...seeing each film on the big screen

...playing with my Dagobah playset for Christmas in 1980

...the moment when I'd finally filled every spot of my Darth Vader action figure case.

It's sad that those childhood memories can't actually be relived again. And there's no way to relive the shock hearing Vader tell Luke "I Am Your Father". But for today, it felt good to be able to pay tribute to my childhood memories of Star Wars.

And I can only hope, for my own sons, that maybe Star Wars will hold memories for them when they get older.

May The Force Be With You (be it "special" or "original") Always!
