Random Ruminations of a SW Fangirl

Blasphemy!
Hey hey, an OT blogent!

Now, here's something that I've been thinking about the last few days ...

The scene ...
The Emperor's throne room on the second Death Star. Luke and Vader are (slowly) fighting each other. (Well, slowly compared to the PT, anyway. :) ) Luke goes and hides. Vader taunts him into coming out in a fit of ... could it be? ... anger, then Luke goes all berserker, and cuts Vader's hand off.

First questions:

1. What is it with these Skywalker men and chopping hands off!?
2. You know Anakin/Vader (or Vaderkin, whichever you prefer) has got to be REALLY SICK of people hacking at his limbs by this point. "Geez, kid, can't you do something original?"

Then ... the Emperor talks, Luke shuts off his lightsaber and says, "I'm a Jedi, like my father before me."

WHAT?!

So ... let me get this straight. He fights, hides, gets really p*ssed (as in angry, not drunk), hacks off his dad's hand ("Happy Father's Day!"), and that makes him a Jedi? :O
There had to be some fear involved in his decision to hide (be it fear of having to take out the old man, or what have you), then he got angry and burst out of hiding to attack Vader, and he sure looked like he hated Dear Old Dad when he was swinging his lightsaber at him repeatedly - including after Vader dropped to his (mechanical) knees. As for suffering ... Vader yelled when he got his hand cut off, Vader got zapped by the Force Lightning, Luke got zapped by Force Lightning, and the Emperor got tossed down the convenient shaft.

So the hand-chopping ritual makes him a Jedi how? ?:| Cause if he's comparing himself to Anakin, well ... I think that'd make Luke more, say, Jedi Lite.

But hey, that's just my opinion.
