How will GL handle the series?
.

Okay, the new Series is going to be hitting our screens some time in 2008, And all we / I really know is here and here

So GL is going to concentrate on the minor or less significant characters that made little or no impact on the movie saga. But does that mean it will only be minor characters or is GL going to throw in a few big characters as a bonus?

Boba Fett could arguably be considered a minor character. Although his Impact was quite major, he only spoke about 5 lines. but I want to see how he got on in the wake of his fathers demise, possibly see him go to Mandalore and meet Jaster Mereel and Montross.

And who doesn't want to see what Old Ben got up to whilst all alone on Tatooine, was he constantly watching over the young Luke? Did he frequent the bars in and around Mos Eisley or simply sit at home with a pet of some origin?

How Leia was raised on Alderaan? What was Alderaan like? maybe seeing it and some of it's inhabitants would put a completely different complexion on the scenes of ANH if we could relate a bit to the planet that gets destroyed

Or even how Han Solo got into smuggling, what made him get involved with the likes of Jabba the Hutt, Is it just for the coin? And how much trouble did he have with the Trade Fed and Empire?

Which Raises another point, With all of the EU books out there such as 'Tales from the ........' series and the Han Solo trilogy, is GL going to consult all of these to try to keep some continuity or is he going to snub these and create his own EU and a million plot holes, leaving thousands of disgruntled fans in his wake?

I hope GL really thinks about what he's doing because I wouldn't like to see another TPM style backlash come his way!

Regardless of how he does it, I know I'll tune in for every Episode!

So what are your thoughts and hopes for the programmes?

Comments, as always are open and welcome, but try to keep it clean! :D

Jaster Mereel died in Jango's arms long before Boba was ever born.

Hopefully there will be reasonable continuity with the EU. It would definitley be cool to see Ben's activities and Leia's old home. I think it would also be cool to see some of what Luke had to do on Tatooine and how he grew up.

Ahhhh......thinking about the series and its impending release is such a rush! I know nothing about it other than the rumors and the two sites linked here (thanks, Pickles!) Does anyone know what network may/will pick it up? Will it be shown in prime time? Whew...wail 'till my hubby hears this....just when he thought he was 'safe' not having to watch anymore SW.....bwahahahahaa!!!!
I want to see how he got on in the wake of his fathers demise.
I second that. Seeing his father's head severed by Mace was probably not a very tender childhood memory for Boba......hmmm....did they have child bounty hunter psychologists anywhere????

I'm thinking not, because if they did Boba may not have turned out to be a bounty hunter. Or maybe he would have anyway because it was in his genetic makeup.

the timeless question of "nature vs. nurture!!"

As far as the research I've seen has it! Nature wins out 80+% of the time

I have my fingers crossed that continuity with the EU will be kept somewhat consistent. I hope we avoid having too much retconning going on. I am very curious as to what the show will look like visually. It's going to be important that it still look like Star Wars and that could be tougher on a tv budget rather than a movie budget.

The media is totally screwing this up. The new show WILL NOT be about Luke, Leia, or any of the well-known main characters. There might be cameos from the Emperor, Vader, Tarkin, and that's it.

FACTS, as stated by Mr. McCallum himself: 1. It will be darker and grittier, since the Empire is in power. 2. It will feature relatively unkown characters from previous EU sources, and some all-new characters.

Side Note: Lucas intervened in comic stories to ensure the survival of Quinlan Vos. Possible role?

We know that Luke, Leia and the majors wont be in there.. but I know I'd love to see their stories expressed visually and by the maker himself. Alas, I am anxiously anticipating both shows and the new and minor characters that they will focus one. I thought I'd heard 3PO might appear here and there, but not sure if that was a media myth.

Han got into smuggling as a stormie who felt sorry for Chewie and busted him out, then deserted and lived on the run.

I've said before, I think the TV show is a gamble. What I mean is its either going to be brilliant or be a disaster. It will be very hard to capture the magic of the movies in a weekly series, so I hope fans don't expect the movies in these TV shows.

That being said, its almost like SW has come full circle. Lucas was inspired by the weekly serials at the movies and now SW really will be a weekly serial.

Han wasn't a stormtrooper, he was a captain. Remember that stormtroopers are still clones even in ANH through ROTJ. That is how Han knows about the cargo dump before jumping in ESB.
As for the show I am not worried about who will be in it. I hope Quinlan Vos was kept alive for a reason, and I hope we see a young Han rescue Chewie. However I trust Lucas since he is writing the stories in the beginning. He has done an excellent job to date on Star wars that I trust he will do well with a regular television show.
