Putting the Jedi practice to the test.
here i am in my room trying to finish some homework and its about to be 1 am here in Cali. but by the time you read this, it's going to be later in the day, maybe... depending at what time you red this.

anyway, i was thinking about many of the things that have been happening recently. well, not so recent, but past things we've heard of.

one of the subjects that came to my mind, was the whole Jedi Religion, though i respect the fans that are involved in it, and though it's also a risky subject to go into, i still thought it'd be good to revise it, or well just talk about our opinions of it.

i was writing something about it, but decided to stop, and erased the whole thing in case i couldn't explain myself, and well, mostly make a fool of myself for not being able to explain myself, with all due respect..i know most of you wouldn't think such things right? *wink* hehehe... j/k but no, i just decided to leave it at this,

so here's the question of the day, for Sunday, April 20.

What do you think about the Jedi Religion? what are the pros and cons, and do you think applying the Jedi beliefs like the Jedi Code (or most of it) to our lives would be a good idea? or no?

so what do you all think?

i'll leave it at that, i look forward to your responses, and may the force be with ya.

Zam-Eli out...

B-)

Jedi as a religion is a load of bantha poodoo. However, pieces of the code are good when applied to everyday life. I'd talk more but I'm kinda in a hurry. Check thisblog for more info.

The Jedi didn't practice a "religion" they utilized the Force, which was real. "Religion" implies a belief in an all mighty god, whereas the Force was a scientific fact in the GFFA, and the Jedi were users of it. Not all beings could touch the Force, you know.

The Jedi were also a honorable group of people, dedicated to peace and justice, and defending the weak and helpless. Those are good ideals to have in any galaxy, if those deeds are done for unselfish reasons. The "gift" of Force sensitivity used for good was very noble.

Religion as we know it is poo-doo, that's for sure.

I use the "accept it and move on" advice in my life!

I must disagree with Granny-Wan's statement that religion is poo-doo, but she brings about an excellent point saying that the Jedi ideals are good for anyone, anywhere, as long as done for unselfish reasons.

Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

I second that.

The thing about Jedi morality is that is only applies to Jedi. What I mean is, detachment from attachment is not something that should be universally sought. It's necessary for Jedi to forgo possessions and emotions because of the Force and the dark side, but that isn't true of normal people.

The Jedi have noble ideals worth emulating whenever possible, but there is no reason for normal people to be disciplined to the extreme like Jedi are.

I find that offensive. Religion for religion's sake is worthless, yes. But who are we to tell someone that their religion is useless if the feel it is bringing them closer to God?

If there are people practicing a "Jedi Religion" in today's world (which I have not heard of nor seen) then it would be considered a cult.

Well, sorry you're offended, but I'm not here to please you. My opinion is just a valid as anyone else's. The best thing the religious and the non-religious can do is to agree to disagree. Neither is ever going to change the other.

there is no reason for normal people to be disciplined to the extreme like Jedi are.

We don't need to be so strict since we're not protecting the galaxy! Well, not yet anyway... :D

I'm curious of what your definition of cult is.

Anything that's different from an 'established' religion, probably.

Interesting thought, the Jedi were reduced to "cult" status by the propoganda of the Emperor. In less than 20 years they went from Heroes of the galaxy to an almost forgotten myth. Sad.

The Force was designed as an all-encompassing religious philosophy, so if it makes you a more caring, thoughtful person, then sure, follow the Jedi ways. :D
