I certainly didn't mean it, but I recently discovered that I published Version 7.2 of
The Completely Unofficial Star Wars Encyclopedia and didn't update the
downloads page! This normally isn't a bad thing, because it takes some time to get the downloads put together, but I published Version 7.2 back in mid-December, so it's been sitting around without downloads for nearly two months!
I've since uploaded the database file, and will get to work on a few of the others shortly. (I'm not going to work too hard on it, since I'm also deep into Version 8.0 as I type...) However, the fact that the downloads page hasn't been updated - for all intents and purposed, not since Version 7.0 - and nobody has complained begs the question:
Who's downloading it?
I've always been obsessed with statistics, so I've been trying to dig up server logs to see what's going on. Hopefully, I'll have some results shortly, and can get a feel for what's happening. What I really want to know, though, is what files are getting the most attention? If at all possible, I'd like to limit the number of files that I have to create each time. The encyclopedia isn't getting any smaller, and it takes a considerable amount of time and effort to create, store, and manage the files. (At last count, there were eight different version of the encyclopedia, spanning thirty-one unique files, plus the two planets spreadsheets. All of which make up 126megabytes of content when zipped up. As of last count...)
Consider this a call for input from the rest of the community: if you have ever downloaded the encyclopedia, or do so on a regular basis, or plan to, what format would you choose?
