Well, I've been in an airplane for the last 12 hours, have passed through three timezones, and survived two of the most intense runway stops ever, but I'm here in LA!
The ride was about what I expected... lots of rushing around to then sit around and wait. We arrived in Phoenix about 10 minutes early, then spent the next 35 minutes on the tarmac while waiting for out gate to open up. I thought I originally had about an hour at the airport, but that was cut to about 10 minutes when they moved my connecting gate and I got in a little exercise.
Luckily, my lightsabers didn't get confiscated, and my Jedi Master costume arrived without mishap. (Look for me in Sunday afternoon's costume pageant!)
LA is not as bad people make it out to be... at least so far. There was a bit of lunchtime traffic on the freeways, but it turned out that I got on the road at just the right time. There was a person driving up the 110 Northbound (must have been between 1:00pm and 1:30pm local time) in what appeared to be a white Honda Del Sol. However, upon closer inspection, the car had been tricked out to look like an X-Wing starfighter! The rear deck had been replaced with - of all things - the dome of an R2-series astromech droid! There were even blaster cannons mounted to the doors. I thought about trying to take a picture, but reason overcame emotion. I was bummed, though... I wish I had a passenger!
(BTW - if you are the driver of this car, and swing by C4 this week, stop by the Fan Fair Hall and say "Hi!" at the CUSWE/Wookieepedia table!)
I'm going to head down to the convention center and see about getting my fan club lanyard, just as soon as I can get some food. All I've had so far today is a small cup of coffee and two airplane cookies.
I'll be putting up pictured from C4 on the
CUSWE site, so pop over there to see who and what I've seen!
