Using my religion--A thought on the census religion marker of being a Jedi
First, a comment: For all those who commented about wanting to see Vader survive Endor, here's another fun tidbit. The story I am writing about that just won the award for Best Drama in the theforce.net's Beyond the Saga Fanfiction Awards. Another incentive to see what all the fuss is about.

Second, I was looking at the exhortation of someone on tf.n to list yourself as a Jedi for your religion in Australia's census. I find it interesting that so many people are espousing that. In my senior year, I was in a Modern Christian Theology class. Since our final exam was on the same day that The Phantom Menace was released, Mr. Messerole, our MCT teacher, made us write our final exam entirely on the article called "Why the Force is Not God."

I'm curious as to what the people believe in who ascribe their religion to the Force and the Jedi ways. I can see where they would think of the Force as a higher power, but do they think of the Force as a vengeful god? Do they believe that it controls all? Is this a fad thing or something to just put on the census to raise questions?

My Mom, as soon as I saw Star Wars, told me that she thought the Force to be more in the aspect of the Holy Ghost/Spirit. That I can understand from a theological perspective. The Holy Ghost is something that guides and prompts, but never controls. It is something that we have to seek personally and to be worthy of, which meshes well with the idea of the Jedi feeling the Force when they are calm and at peace.

Well, that's my brief thought on it. Hope no one's offended by me turning in a Sunday School lesson.
