 | And the award goes to--What I'd nom SW for, part 1 (TPM and AOTC) |
Random idea, but the boards.theforce.net fanfic awards season ended today with a bang. Well, okay, the bang was mostly me having an ecstatic attack at actually winning against what I thought were all odds, which subsequently startled the same roommate who witnessed a similar feat two weeks ago, but that's another story.
Anyway, I've been thinking of doing fanfic awards for quirky things, like best costume in a fanfic or best soundtrack for songfics. That sort of thing was fun and I did something similar in the Angst Awards. We had categories such as Best Death of a Canon Character, Best non-lightsaber fight, Best Suspense, etc.
Well, while I'm in the mood, I thought I'd throw out some awards to the SW saga.
The Phantom Menace
Best Costume: Shmi Skywalker. She was the only person other than the Jedi who really and truly looked absolutely appropriate to what she was doing in the film.
Best Soundtrack: The Podrace music by John Williams. Perfect suspense.
Best Visual Effects: The laser barrier in the duel. It was so wonderful as a palpable, horrible barrier in being blood-red. It also was used in one of my favorite shots, in which Darth Maul has just mortally wounded Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan's still trapped and Maul's stalking like a predator, then flicks his saber against the barrier like he's trying to provoke Obi-Wan even more.
Best Adaptation: Obi-Wan's "I have a bad feeling about this."
Best Speech: Again, Shmi Skywalker's "Don't look back." It was the only point in the movie where I felt like crying.
Best Kungfufightingmove: Obi-Wan's backwards parry.
Best facial expressions: Qui-Gon in the scene that involves the line "Nobody can kill a Jedi." There is so much history in the looks he gives.
Best klutz moment: Jar-Jar shooting battle droids by accident when one's wrapped around his foot.
Best in-joke: The ETs in the Senate scene.
Best line: "I was not elected to watch my people suffer and die while you discuss this invasion in a committee!"
Best foreshadow: "And you, young Skywalker. We shall watch your career with great interest."
Attack of the Clones
Best Costume: Padme's nightgown on Naboo. I am still reeling with envy of it and her curls in that scene.
Best Visual Effects moment: All those Jedi lightsabers lighting up on Geonosis.
Best anticipated moment: Yoda pulls back his robe to reveal a lightsaber. Three and a half movies by that point of seeing him wobble around with that stick o' doom and he FINALLY got to show us why Anakin is compared to Yoda.
Best Whatthe... moment: A tie between Dooku's conversation with Obi-Wan (especially "You forget that [Qui-Gon] was once my apprentice as you were once his.") and Dooku being Yoda's Padawan. I mean, okay, you expect Obi-Wan to have a lost apprentice given Anakin's temperament, but YODA having one of the Lost Twenty as his apprentice?
Best CGI environment: The Jedi Archive. When I get my MLS, I'm applying to be Jocasta Nu's replacement!
Best foreshadowing shot: Palpatine and Anakin completely in shadow against the skyline of Coruscant as he's goading Anakin towards the Dark Side.
Best smirkable moment: Anakin rushing into battle, just like his son and paying for it!
Best shot: Mace's shoes walking down the hallway to the Geonosis arena. I don't know why, but I just knew looking at the way he was walking who it was and that it was going to be major butt-kicking ahead!
Best brief pause: Boba with his head resting against Jango's empty helmet.
Best "DARNIT!" moment: Obi-Wan being very fatherly to Anakin in the "Dreams pass in time" scene.
Okay, Episodes III and IV coming up.
