How Star Wars Changed (and saved) My Life
As a sort of prequel to my next blog (my official 50th!), I decided to write up about how Star Wars changed my life. and it did. significantly.
My life before Star Wars-
Before I became a real "fan", I (now, looking back) did not like who I was. I was a lot of what I was, but nothing to make me extremely awesome or stand out. I liked Pokemon (it was a fad back then), I played basketball (no offense to the sport or anyone who plays it), I tried to fit in, I was the typical American kid. But now, I realize thats not my style. I hung out with the "cool kids" (I will admit to never really a member of their click.) back then, and my best friend at the time was a serious member of the click. But then within a year two of my best friends moved away. one to Russia, one to Nevada. Both of whom I have not seen in years. I was caught at a good time. AoTC had just come out, and I was destined to become the uber geek I am today.
Finding Star Wars in a time of great gacti- emotional turmoil-
I went to see AoTC with my cousins Coop, and Ham. We waited in line, saw the movie. it was awesome. well, looking back the movie was OK, but I loved it all the same. I still was not hooked, I still needed for Star Wars to become my passion, not just an interest. Fortunately, I went on a little weekend trip to San Fransisco to see an A's game (go A's) and picked up a little star wars book for my plane ride. I read it amazingly quickly and absolutely loved it! I grabbed the second one as I came back home. I loved it again. I became notorious for reading star wars books in class. I welcomed the names. at this stage in life they were all (mostly) playful.

How I would have turned out-
I mentioned earlier that did not like how I was before star wars looking back. Thinking about how I would turn out without SW makes me shudder in sadness. Here's my best impression of how I would have turned out.
- I hate to say, but.....I think I would have turned out a lot like everyone else. why? well read on!
- A jock. I have never been
super athletic, but I was involved quite a bit in sports, especially before star wars. I probably would have become involved in some sport or another, stayed in shape, and turned out with a much more upper-body strength.
- Popular. I never really was popular before star wars, but I was getting there. I much prefer not being popular and my lack of social skills. I have also come to find that (generally) people who are less popular are much nicer and more accepting of the fact that I know the capital of the galactic republic.
I said prequel to next blog didn't I? well, my 50th blog is up soon. but wait! it says 53rd blog up on top of my browser! you silly duck independentjac! well, I am silly duck, but I have decided to celebrate my 50th blog on 54 because I *cough* in my younger years *cough* wrote a few entry's that were deleted by the great moose. anyway, new blog coming tomorrow. all about me. don't miss it.
