'Complete Integration of the Animal in the SW' Chapter III: Metaphorical Use
In this third blog entry regarding the 'Complete Integration of the Animal in the SW Universe', I'll highlight several Metaphorical / Symbolical uses of the animal.

Here I've used the metaphor as a thing conceived as representing another; a symbol. The animal is often used as a metaphor / symbol in our culture as well. Examples: the owl as a metaphor for wisdom, the fish representing early Christianity, a black cat being a bad omen and the fox as a metaphor for trickery and cunning.

I've collected some of the better-known examples from the 'SW'-universe.

1. Iconography
2. Linguistic Use
3. METAPHORICAL USE
4. Etymology
5. Designs
6. Creatures & Art
7. Sport & Entertainment

CHAPTER 3: METAPHORICAL USE OF THE ANIMAL

- Can-cells: Are often kept as pets by Wookiees and as such considered to be good omens by Wookiees.

- Aiwha: On Kamino, the Clones were educated in 'pods' consisting of 4 clones. This was derived from the hunting group of the Aiwha on Kamino and Naboo.

- Grimtaash: The mythological Molator is one of the pons from the Dejarik game. Rumour has it that the spirit of Grimtaash protects Alderaan Royalty for corruption and treason.

- Monnok: This Dejarik creature is a dangerous predator from Soccorro, a desert planet. Superstitious smugglers consider them to be good luck omens whenever they see one before departing on a voyage. They have developed a primitive use of tools.

- Colo Claw Fish: This large aquatic creature from Naboo is often depicted in Naboo and Gungan folktales as a symbol for treachery and deceit.

- Bandara: This beetle-like creature lives on Devaron. The Devaronian river pilots considered seeing a swarm on the river good luck because it warned them for shallow waters.

- Flensor: This avian scavenger was native to the planet Sakiya, and was considered a bad luck omen by the Sakiyans. If a flensor was seen flying over one's bonepit, it was an especially bad sign.

- K'lor'slug: These venomous worm like creatures from Noe'ha'hon (also represented on the Dejarik board) lived in garbage heaps and refuse piles, and were regarded as symbols of gluttony and decay.

- Guda: Believed to be the largest aquatic creature native to the planet Neftali. Neftali natives used their bones as needles and hooks, and the bony spur at the end of their nose is considered a symbol of good fortune and luck.

- Lucksprite: According to the Ewoks, Lucksprites were responsible for donating luck to the various beings that lived on the moon. There were both good Lucksprites and bad Lucksprites, dispensing good and bad luck as they saw fit.

- Tailrings: Native to the planet Socorro, this desert-dwelling reptile resembled a small, winged dragon. Tailrings are attracted to shiny objects, and are considered excellent thieves. However, Socorran pirates, who strive to find one in the desert, also consider them a good-luck charm.

- Seluss: This serpent was found in the tunnels and caves of the planet Sullust. Its sudden appearance was considered a good omen to Sullustan miners, since it indicated that the area was relatively safe to enter and exist in.
