Tian Chyler: A (brief) 'What's the Story?' Story
For the past few years Hyperspace members have been given the opportunity to make their mark in the ever-growing Star Wars saga through a competition called 'What's the Story?'.
Basically, an image and a short brief is given about a character, ship, species etc from the Star Wars movies (or the Clone Wars cartoons) and then Hyperspace members can submit a full backstory for that element.

It's tremendous fun and the sense of satisfaction when you're successful is brilliant.
Previously two of my submissions have been accepted; Olana Chion and Antidar Williams (see my other blogs for details).

And just today I was pleasantly surprised to see 'the fragrant wookiee' sited as being involved in the latest 'WtS?' character; Tian Chyler.

A great number of my previous submissions involved me trying to insert my name or one of my nicknames into the Star Wars mythos, but ultimately my winning entries were the ones where I'd decided not to try. Olana's name came from an EU character and the actress who portrayed her and Antidar's name was an anagram of the name of the ship he died on.

It was with a certain sense of irony that I discovered that my story for Chyler's background (and future) had not been accepted - it's the work of a certain 'yoda's waiter'.
Instead, my contribution was the first name 'Tian'.

So, where's the irony?

Well, my name is Ian Tapley, and it won't take you long to see where I got Tian from.

So, the one where my story wasn't accepted was where I finally got my name into Star Wars.

Sadly the 'WtS?' feature is due to end next year, so I'd advise you all to sign up and start submitting whilst you still have the chance.
