These are the voyages...
So, if anybody's looked at my profile you may have noticed that I'm in the software business. This affords me the priveledge of working with a bunch of geeks such as myself. So today we got to discussing Star Trek and the sorry state that franchise is in.

It amazes me that something which was previously so grand could have fallen so far. Back in the mid to late 1990's when I was in high school Star Trek was all we had in the realm of really great sci-fi. We'd heard rumors of special editions to Star Wars and maybe even new movies but nothing concrete. Star Trek: The Next Generation was such a big thing for me back then...and to a degree it still keeps my interest quite well.

I grew up on TNG and was 14 when it got canceled. Fortunately, though DS9 had already started it's run and thus I was deeply engrossed by it. It was during this time I discovered how great the OS was and that odd movies were bad and even movies were good. Hell, even when Voyager started until I went to college I was interested.

Maybe that's what happened. Maybe my tastes changed in college. No wait, I still like Star Wars and the Treks I just mentioned. Trek definitely changed. It went from exploring a utopian future and the potential of humanity to belittling the Borg and seeing how tight T'Pol's suit could be while rubbing jelly on her half naked body.

When is Trek going to get back to exploration, friendship, and living up to and exceeding human potential? I don't care about the new class of starship or how Trip died a crappy death before the Federation was founded. I want the stuff that made Kirk, Spock and McCoy great. I want the unity of the Next Generation, a look at what makes us us that DS9 gave.

Rick Berman, or whoever is going to be in charge of Star Trek, fix it. Don't run this grand old lady into the ground anymore than it already has been. Let's get back to boldly going where no man...where no one...has gone before...

I loved TNG and still watch reruns of it occasionally. I have recently realizied through the reruns that I actually missed a lot of the earlier episodes so there new to me now. There is a large Star Trek themed area at the Hilton here in Las Vegas. It is very interesting with actual sets of the Enterprise including the bridge. Unfortunately it is very highly overpriced so one trip through is enough.

I have often wondered the same thing...just what message were they trying to convey with the "new" Enterprise? I was not surprised nor sorry to see it leave the air, though with nothing to replace it, how sad an ending...and needless as well.
Data was killed but proto Data left alive, so a possible movie awaits there...maybe...
Have heard no rumours as to anything in the works, but can only hope that we have not seen the last of Star Trek...there is so much left to explore...
