It's almost time for that big day. The day when hordes of
Star Wars fans line up for hours outside of their favorite (or in my case, not so favorite) theatres to get in to the latest film.
The best part of this experience for me is not the fan interaction, the smell of popcorn, or the dorky homemade costumes. It's what I call THE MOMENT. The Moment can be seen best portrayed in the documentary on disc 2 of
The Phantom Menace, "the Beginning". It's that single bombastic first impact of the gold-on-black STAR WARS text with the kick-off of the main title theme. That moment only truly exists in a midnight showing, when after years of speculation, spoiler-seeking, discussion, arguments, and flame-wars, fans join together in an ear-drum shattering standing ovation that lifts everyone in the theatre off their feet screaming and crying.
It's an amazing moment, that has never happened in any film showing quite in the same way. It's the moment I most look forward to when I will trek out of my abode out here in the boonies and make my pilgrimage into the city to watch the final film.
It's the last time that I'll experience THE MOMENT, but I'll cherish it forever I'm sure.
