This is a heavy and deep subject that has been on my mind recently. While watching Return of the Jedi with the commentary, I heard Mr. Lucas explain the whole "Balance of the force." concept. It was either there or i read it somewhere, maybe both. Anyway, according to GL, balance in the for means NO Sith.

What got me was the fact that balance means equal strength of opposing forces. Let me put it this way, true balance is let's say 50 pounds of evil and 50 pounds of good, both totaling 100 pounds. Each side is the same as the other and neither has the advantage, yet they are polar opposites.
So what defines good and evil? Good is the absense of evil and evil is the absense of good. Therefore the two opposing forces are defined by their opposites. Without good, there is no evil and without evil, there is no good. Therefore, in order for one of them to exist, the must exist as well.

Now let's bring this back into the Star Wars Universe. The Jedi represent Good and the Sith reprsent evil correct? Then how in the whole can "Balance in the Force" mean NO sith? It simple is not feesable. If there is no evil to counter the good, then there is no existence. True balance means The Jedi and Sith (or some other Dark Jedi/Evil Force) must exist. For one to be completely annihilated would be catastrophic.

This idea is also reflected in the Chinese (or Japanese, I'm not 100% sure) Yin-Yang. The Yin-Yang represents a perfect balance. It also shows how good contains a bit of evil and evil has a bit of good. This means it is IMPOSSIBLE to be completely rid of evil or good.

So this whole Balance of the Force idea would not have last long, because the moment all the evil was destroyed, another source would rise to take it's place.
