The Sarlacc - Misunderstood....... or Truly Evil?
I have recently looked much into the Sarlacc's feeding process.

The most facts we have comes from the only known survivor of this vile creature; a bounty hunter named Boba Fett (I'm about as good as he is). He has only survived and successfully resisted the creature's physical and mental torture because of his Mandalorian armor, having the right equipment at the right time, and his will to survive.

Well, the slow digestion rate is a result of evolution from rare feeding, as mentioned in the databank entry.

Also, from the databank entry, it is said that it keeps its prey alive while digesting, even if a species can't live to be a thousand years old, like humans and my people.

As mentioned in the databank entry and the Wookieepedia entry, it can also mentally torture it's prey, so that if being continuously bathed in stomach acid is something that one can used to, mental torture, such as absorbing its victims memories, is something one cannot. The Wookieepedia entry also says that this suggests some degree of sentience in the creature, as it seems to be capable of being malevolent.

This information is also present in The New Essential Guide to Alien Species.

Now I have some words.

Why would I mark the Sarlacc as evil? Well, let's just say that it gives you a thousand more years of life just so you can suffer, unable to commit suicide to end it. If the victim wanted to commit suicide, he/she should have done it right before being eaten. I don't know if this has been proven, but early suicide would be meaningless if the Sarlacc is capable of reanimating the corpse and possibly calling their spirit back from the Force. You are also psychopathically tortured and are reminded every day that the nice (in this case, yes, it's nice) release of death is far, far away. Imagine it going like this: "Maybe you will die in *insert any long amount of time*." and, hey, I might think it would sometimes lie to you, such as: "You will suffer forever (as in until either the creature dies [which might be shorter if it's close to death] or the end of time)". However, this means that it psychopathically tortures its "food" on purpose, considering its degree of sentience. The power to alter one's mind (like keeping your mind frozen in time) also makes it impossible to get used to the pain. It might also keep the victims' brains, respiratory, and sensory organs intact, making them stil conscious for the remainder of digestion. It's like it wants to make its "food" suffer. It's not really feeding off of its victims bodies. It's feeding off of their fears.

I wouldn't say that the Sarlacc is just another plant-animal that is trying to survive, but this is one of those creatures that possibly has evil intent. I don't think the creature can control its seemingly-ever-lasting metabolism, but since it does have sentience, I think it can control its telepathic torture ability, and takes advantage of its long metabolism just to do so. A true b*stard of a creature worth killing for the greater good. Its stomach is like a reality hell. I wonder what the creature is thinking - not as in the memories it has absorbed -, then we could know its intent.

If you were going to die, and had a choice between being fed to a Sarlacc or being attacked by a Dianoga inside your toilet by surprise, what would you pick? Oh, right, the Dianoga (hey, better an embarrassing death than a slow death that involves psychopathic torture). For me, I would go for the Sarlacc since I've had a lot experience handling Sarlacci (assumed plural form of Sarlacc), even when I get devoured. *points to the Sarlacc beak mounted on the wall*

What do you think? Do you think the Sarlacc is evil?

Feel free to leave a comment or two.
